Anyone want to bet what time the AA will show up?

Took the afternoon off work to make sure I got to a specific training camp on time for this evening. Car has other ideas. I think the battery is flat but I'm not certain.

I called the AA at 2pm. They said they'd be there at 3.05. This became 5.30, then 3.30, then 4, then 6, then half 5 again, then 6.30, and now 7pm.

My weekend is fucked regardless now as I have missed the start of the camp (you can't join halfway through). And if I don't laugh about it I'll cry. This is the icing on the cake for this week! If they'd have come at 3.05 when they said they would I could have made it maybe. So anyone want to place their bets? The odds are probably best around 2am which would be the most disruptive, of course.

It’s because you are at home and therefore safe. Our car stopped dead on a bend on a country lane last week (so grateful we weren’t on the motorway) and they were with us in under an hour, towed us to somewhere safer for a better look then organised a taxi to get us home and towed the car back too.

It really isn’t , I broke down in south London in a precarious place at 11:30 pm earlier this year , only myself and my sister present and the AA didn’t arrive until nearly 2 am . I then had to wait until 3:30 am for a tow truck and we have all singing / dancing top of the range cover .

ARGH!! 8pm now. I'm beginning to think they won't get here before bedtime.

Would they actually turn up in the middle of the night? Should I try to go to sleep? What if they turn up at stupid o'clock and my phone doesn't wake me?

Can you not get someone to jump start you?

I broke down on a motorway moved into a lay by around 4:30 and waited 7 hours for the AA. I got home after midnight.

I have MS and told them that but it made no difference.

I had to wee in a bush and sit on a step in no doubt rat infested bit of scrubland.

Is it a stop-start battery? If so the chances of them being able to fix it tonight are not great if it’s dead - and be prepared for a significant cost to replace it ☹️

That's true Sir. Had mine replaced yesterday and it wasn't cheap.

Unfortunately it is. It was new two years ago so I am very much hoping it is not dead! If it has to be replaced then so be it, I can afford it luckily but I'd rather not have the expense of course!

If it does need replacing, I can recommend Halfords.
They came out to us and replaced ours on the drive.

Seeing as they haven't turned up yet I'm going with 9.20pm. I hope they turn up sooner though.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you. We came back from a v expensive holiday abroad to find my car wouldn’t start. Turned out the stop-start battery was dead and had to be fitted at a garage (because they have to reset something) at a total of £257. That hurt after the holiday.

Well my time has passed and OP hasn't updated so I'm guessing they still haven't been. Wonder if they come knocking at 3am, OP sleeps through and they go away so OP has to call again the morning to rejoin the help queue

Sorry everyone, it was quite late by the time they arrived - almost half past 10! They were here for a while. There's an electrical fault which has drained and messed up the battery. Garage today!
