Do you ever just sit in the car when you get home and enjoy the silence?

Just got home from an appointment with DS who is asleep and I feel like every day after school until bedtime is pure chaos. I'm on the driveway in my car with a coffee I got from a Costa drive through and enjoying a bit of peace before the madness starts.

I do it often on my own too. My neighbours must think I'm mad.

Yes. I think I will go to a drive through next time too 😂

BogRollBOGOF · 03/11/2022 14:26

Yes. I used to do it pre-children and smartphones too.

I like the calm gap between transitions.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 03/11/2022 14:27

Yes!!!

I also stay up too late to have some time to myself.

vivaespanaole · 03/11/2022 14:28

Oh yes! I think most parents of young kids do this!

KennAdams · 03/11/2022 14:28

You're not alone. 😁

SoupDragon · 03/11/2022 14:30

I have to pick DD up from dance twice a week. I arrive early so I can sit and wait in the perfectly silent car 😂

BigFatLiar · 03/11/2022 14:31

Even if there's no one in the house sometimes its nice to sig in the car, I'll even listen to the radio. I think its just a nice space.

Decafflatteplease · 03/11/2022 14:37

Yes to the sitting in the car.

Yes to the staying up too late, to relish the quiet alone time too.

Ragwort · 03/11/2022 14:54

Yes ... and I haven't even got DC at home any longer ... Grin. DH is retired and although he keeps fairly busy I miss quiet, alone time (I know that makes me sound not very nice Blush.

sarahc336 · 03/11/2022 14:55

Ha ha I'm in the car now doing this exact thing just waiting to do the school and then nursery pick up 🤣🤣

SpottyStripyDuvet · 03/11/2022 14:56

Yes! Sometimes just 2 minutes helps the transition from work to home.

Also I never saw the point of drive through coffee/anything until I had a baby who would only nap when in motion.

MegGriffinshat · 03/11/2022 14:58

Yes.

When dd falls asleep in the car and dh is wfh, he brings me out a cup of tea.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 03/11/2022 15:01

Yes! DH thinks I'm a weirdo when I do this 😂

FiveGoMadInDorset · 03/11/2022 15:01

Yes

sunshineandshowers40 · 03/11/2022 15:04

Yes, I do this quite often

crochetmonkey74 · 03/11/2022 15:07

Im single and live alone- I do this- and I especially like getting to things a bit early so I have some car sitting time. It's like a bit of enforced mindfulness

I like the transition from my busy workplace to home

asblindasabat · 03/11/2022 15:09

yes, I do this a lot.

I just sit there and stare at the sky and the world around me and just daydream. It’s bliss.

BarrelOfOtters · 03/11/2022 15:11

Yes. No kids, but sometimes that little bit of quiet is just needed.

Ditto having a bath, pottering in the garden or greenhouse. Or taking a while to empty the dishwasher.

Husband has his quite time in the loo with a book after work.

etulosba · 03/11/2022 15:11

I’m currently sat in the car on the drive in silence.

I’m waiting for a delivery from DX. They claim they tried to deliver and left a card on Tuesday and again yesterday. Needless to say there were no cards and no knocks. I suspect he’s been going to the wrong house.

I’ll chase his van if I have to.

Season0fTheWitch · 03/11/2022 15:15

Sleeping 2 month old DD and I have been waiting outside school for DD1 for half an hour, I have a pumpkin spice frappuccino and tiktok. It's a tiny moment of peace.

FourChimneys · 03/11/2022 15:23

I have a friend with three smallish children. At the weekend she leaves them with her DH and goes to the supermarket. Twenty minutes in the shop, forty minutes in the car in a layby on the way home with a cup of coffee. Her DH encourages it and is happy if she is longer.

I sometimes sit in the car on the drive to finish listening to a piece of music or a discussion on the radio.

DoYouKenMrsM · 03/11/2022 15:29

Yes, I do. I also sometimes let the DC sleep in later than I should, just to enjoy the rare morning peace with a cup of tea and the news or a book. I know I will pay for it come bedtime, but I still do it.

BigFatLiar · 03/11/2022 15:30

When we were courting we got caught in heavy rain. We sat in the car with the rain bouncing of the roof and bonnet listening to Jose Feliciano 'Listen to the pouring rain'. When it rains I sometimes pull over and listen to it drumming on the car, brings back the memories.

ChakaKhanfan · 03/11/2022 15:32

I don’t have a car, so I often sit in the downstairs loo
5 minutes of glorious peace
