Do you ever just sit in the car when you get home and enjoy the silence?

Just got home from an appointment with DS who is asleep and I feel like every day after school until bedtime is pure chaos. I'm on the driveway in my car with a coffee I got from a Costa drive through and enjoying a bit of peace before the madness starts.

I do it often on my own too. My neighbours must think I'm mad.

Yes! Sometimes in silence and sometimes listening to the radio. I can also connect to our WiFi from the driveway.

'Car sitting time' is the best. No one else or destructions, just peace

I have also nodded off in the car on the drive.

I also go to the supermarket and sit in the carpark for 30 minutes looking at my phone enjoying the peace before i go and do the shopping. It seems, looking about, that loads of other women do this as well, whilst men park up and go straight in.

O yes , especially In The winter if the heater has been on high , Just sit there and listen to the radio for ten minutes . As soon as I get In The house it’s the age old question WHATS FOR TEA!!

Often. I’m in it now in my driveway after a 3 hour drive back from a week of conferences and events. I just don’t want to face the reality of my life once I step into my home. A depressed unemployed 22 year old, a sectioned 28 year olds legal matters, my failing/flailing business, a house in desperate need of so much work/tidying and decluttering, bills I can’t cover.

Let me stay with you all in the car for a little longer….

I always do this!!!

I assumed all parents of young kids did this?! When mine was younger and was napping daily, if he fell asleep in the car then I happily sat in the car outside the house for an hour or two while he finished his nap! These days I probably wouldn't as any naps affect his bedtime... I'd rather have the chaos and get bedtime over and done with on time than have some peace and quiet now, only to have him stay up for hours past bedtime!

I remember pre-kids seeing a woman sitting in a car and reading the paper and eating a bun and wondering why on earth she was picking the car to hang about in.

I know now.

I think everyone does this. Nice warm car, phone, quiet.

YANBU. I love doing this. Apparently DH once opened the door to greet me and stood there for a minute until he realised I wasn't getting out! (I was engrossed in MN with a coffee so didn't notice him!)

I hope life takes an easier turn for you all. I know how hard those things are x

Rockbird · 03/11/2022 17:04

Yes every day. I get home from work and sit outside for about half an hour before going in.

CluelessHamster · 03/11/2022 17:04

When my youngest started school nursery, 19 years ago, I often used to drop her off, drive to Sainsbury's for a coffee and a magazine (only basic phones back then!) and sit in the car till it was time to collect her. The sheer relief of knowing that no one would be making any demands on me for two hours! Bliss!

AwfulTed · 03/11/2022 20:02

Yes, although sometimes my DH comes out and knocks on the car window or opens the door… he wfh and is a big part of why I like to sit in the car, just 5 minutes

Lightningfast · 03/11/2022 20:03

Good gracious yes! I’m doing it now.
