Ridiculous Alexa question

Remy7 · 02/11/2022 08:00

Since yesterday Alexa will only play XX "and similar artists" when I ask her to play an artist. Call me old fashioned but sometimes I just want the one artist 😂
Anyone know why or how to fix it?!
I've looked in the settings and there's nothing obvious. We have 4 Alexa devices and it's all of them.
#FirstWorldProblems I know

Yes mine us doing this too! I asked her to play q specific song and she played a playlist (not one i made) that included that song but wouldn't play the song on its own. And said she "couldn't do that on this stream" when I said "play this song again". What's going on?

kilos · 02/11/2022 08:05

Oh mine is doing this! I though it may be to get you to pay for Amazon music unlimited...
It's very annoying

DecayedStrumpet · 02/11/2022 08:10

This sounds like how free apps behave; if you have a paid for music subscription anywhere (like spotify) you can link the app in alexas settings.
Maybe amazon have changed the functionality on Amazon music as PP said

We have Prime and I've just tested it - it played the song I wanted and then went into playlist of 'similar songs'. Has it always been that way, or is that different?

We have prime but not music unlimited. Up until yesterday it would just play the song on its own and stop. Sometimes with a message at the end, "to hear more by this artist, say..."

That’s always been the way.

The issue is when you ask it to play a song, it doesn’t, it can’t find it and just says ‘playing xxx song radio’ instead and plays similar songs. We have it with our google dot. I think it’s not logged in right.

This is how the revolution will start. One moment you're asking Alexa to play Taylor Swift, the next Alexa is playing Lizzo and also changing your internet banking password, sacking your cleaner by text and booking you on a flight to Ecuador.

PuttingDownRoots · 02/11/2022 08:31

Its always done that if you don't have Amazon music.
Found some unexpected new favourites that way.

😂

Remy7 · 02/11/2022 09:15

We have Amazon music with Prime but not unlimited. I've always been able to play just one particular song or artist and only shuffle if I want to.
Ahh well we'll hopefully enjoy some surprises.
@Magelica At least Ecuador is warm 😂

I've just had an email this morning from amazon saying 'we have improved your Amazon Music Prime benefit at no extra cost'

So translating from corporate speak, that probably does mean theyve made it worse Grin

SisterGeorgeMichael · 02/11/2022 09:30

My Amazon music app changed colour yesterday so it must have been updated.

Hugasauras · 02/11/2022 09:41

Yes it's changed
We continue to invest in making Prime even more valuable for members – we have improved your Amazon Music Prime benefit at no additional cost:
• More ad-free music, increasing from 2 million songs on-demand to over 100 million songs in shuffle mode plus a selection of on-demand playlists

DoesntWantToGo · 02/11/2022 09:44

Yes! Mines doing this too! DS always listens to whale music to help him sleep (don’t ask 🤦🏼‍♀️) and it’s started playing all sorts. So annoying!

StressyMcStressFace · 02/11/2022 10:04

"Alexa? How do I get you to play one artist rather than lots of random ones"?

"The artist Monet was born in Paris in 1840, and is considered the founder of impressionism. His famous works include 'Water Lilies'. Would you like me to find galleries showing his work near you?"

It can't be just my one that pulls this...

Exactly what mine is doing

Pinkocsb · 02/11/2022 21:19

Mine too, really annoying - and not an improvement at all actually Amazon! Can I link it to my music library on my iphone?

HammerheadCorvette · 02/11/2022 21:23

Just had an argument with mine as I asked him to play a particular album and he waffled on about introducing me to new music and that he was going to play the album I wanted and some similar music that I hadn't asked for. I explained that I only wanted to listen to the actual album I had asked for, he said he was still going to play similar music. I asked for one song and he played that. I thought I could get him to play the album one song at a time but with the next song he also wanted to introduce me to new music so now I am listening to the radio. What a bellend.

Oldlady294 · 03/11/2022 00:00

I understand that you think you made our experience better BUT if I want to listen to a particular album, I should have that option. It takes away from my listening enjoyment when I have to keep saying “Alexa next”!!!!

Mineleven · 03/11/2022 13:31

So does anyone know how to stop it? Mine defaults to Spotify but now if I ask it to play Greenday it calls it Greenday radio or what ever band I ask for has radio tacked on and plays random music. It's about the only thing I use alexa for these days, might have to switch to the Google version.....

If you refer to Alexa as he and him no wonder you're having issues. I don't think Alexa is gender challenged.

Pinkocsb · 03/11/2022 15:06

Brilliant!

AntikytheraMech · 03/11/2022 15:12

Just don't ask for Bruno Mars 😁
