Ridiculous Alexa question

Since yesterday Alexa will only play XX "and similar artists" when I ask her to play an artist. Call me old fashioned but sometimes I just want the one artist 😂
Anyone know why or how to fix it?!
I've looked in the settings and there's nothing obvious. We have 4 Alexa devices and it's all of them.

You can make Alexa into a Man, it's one of the voice options.

Of course, that's the modern world for you, your electronic aids can self identify now.

It's shit. They've ruined it.

Our one started off by playing the song we wanted then a different song after, but now when we ask for a song, it gives a completely different one.

That's not improving the service, that's wrecking it. If I ask for a specific song, that's what I want not something else entirely. Who thought this was a good idea? It's practically the only thing we use Alexa for.

I asked her to play happy birthday recently as I was carrying cake with lit candles. She went off on one about prime membership. Ruined the moment !

Odd as I've got another streaming subscription associated with my account that always (usually) works.

Omg this is going to wind dd1 (SN) up a treat. She loves asking Alexa to play her favourite songs, and it hasn’t ended well before when Alexa misheard or said th song was unavailable (our Alexa is notoriously stroppy). If Alexa starts playing random shit when she asks for one of her songs, dd1 is going to end up in meltdown.

why did they have to mess with it? It was a simple thing she could do independently.

Yup. There has always been choices, such as alexa, echo and others. Ziggy was added this year.😁

I’ve just been searching for a resolution for this. I’m in a proper strop with it. I want to listen to Sam Fender and feel the angst of his northern roots then Harry styles pops up. WTF.

All seemed fine with dd1’s Alexa this morning. We don’t have Amazon music, but do have Apple Music and have set defaults to use that, so maybe all will stay the same for her 🤞 (would have thought that might make Amazon do an even harder sell, tbh, but hopefully not!)

What is up with alexa will not play my music - plays music that I hate and when I say skip it then tells me you cannot have more than 6 skips in 60 minutes. For god sake - what is the point of me having a beautiful playlist of what I like - not rubbish they are chucking out. I have prime but not unlimited. Help anyone.

Oh I'm so glad it's not just me. It's infuriating. We had a Disney song in Japanese this morning. The kids were very confused!!
I still haven't found a solution but thanks to PPs I've now changed it to be called ziggy 😆

You can link it to Apple Music, it's working normally if you ask it to play the song from Apple Music

The only solution is to pay for Unlimited - absolute bastards. I already pay for Prime, it shouldn't cost me an extra £9 a month for music too! Almost 3yo DD is very pissed off that she can't hear the Frozen II soundtrack in its entirety. Best way around it that I've found is to use Spotify through the Echo Dot - it shuffles and has ads but at least it doesn't throw random other artists into the mix! We pay for Prime annually so have it until May, but I think we'll get rid of it then just out of principle.

Thanks, but I don’t pay for apple music either - I have already paid for all the music in iTunes so refuse to pay again. The only solution seem to be pay for prime unlimited or play the music on my phone and bluetooth it to alexa. Kinda defeats the main reason I got an alexa.

Would you mind posing for a Daily Mail sad-face article about how the changes have ruined this for her? You know, really embarrass Amazon. Because if they don't sort this out sharpish, I'm going to throw the blasted device out of the window. It's bad enough when it waffles normally ("by the way" - fuck off!)

To rub salt into the wound, it's affected my Sonos speaker too, I can't even use the Sonos app to play an album or playlist like I used to, it just shuffles it with random shit thrown in. If I want to listen to a film score, I want to bloody well listen to it in order. I wondered why I overslept this morning, it's stopped the alarm from working. Lucky that my manager is on leave and the controllers didn't need me this morning, so I got away with sneaking in late.

I'm currently conversing with their online chat thing. It is trying to pass it off as a technical issue rather than deliberate policy. It describes it as an "emerging issue" (in other words they're being flooded with complaints).

I've just checked my account and my subscription was due to renew tomorrow.

Duly cancelled. £79 which is better off in my pocket than theirs. When the next series of Clarkson's Farm comes out next year, I'll just pay for a month and binge every TV show I want during that month. There wasn't much else in the subscription that I actually used.

It's annoying, but if you listen to a playlist it seems to shuffle songs on that playlist first before moving on to unwanted ones. So as long as the playlist is long enough it seems you can postpone hearing songs you haven't asked for.

This is happening to mine and is really bloody annoying. Amazon if you are listening this is total BS
