Is Global Majority better?

Please help, not trying for woke points, just want to be inclusive and use the best language.

No style guide in my institution, other reports use BAME.

If you need to think about if they are getting fair access or not, the society is already corrupt. But by doing the survey, you maybe othering those students again. Like I said, I don't think about my ethnicity, unless I was asked.

This is idealistic and not realistic imo. The fact is disadvantage due to ethnicity, race, sex, disability, sexuality etc etc exists throughout our society in the UK. Institutions have to be held accountable for ensuring equality of opportunities and therefore this data is needed in order to measure that. Therefore some form of terminology is needed!

I've never heard global majority. It's a bit of a weird term.

Yeh I wouldn’t use this

I’m not keen on BAME but black, Asian etc seems ok split up but I get people want an overall term

Not sure there is a completely sound one

still saying minoritized works! Not based on colour but on the oppression of some cultures over others...

I like minoritised - I’d not really come across it but serves a purpose when you need to lump many different groups together.

Thank you all so much for your responses and for the reasoned debate. So much to read and think about here.

@CourtneeLuv because it was used disparagingly for centuries against people and many POC said they don't like it and don't want to be called it.

Any form I've filled in
The choices aren't binary.

It's not a tick box for White and another for BME

And whenever I've seen the data presented there is more than ethnicities in the list/ chart.
And in this way the information is way more useful.
