A teenager was murdered this morning

In my area.

A 19 year old student. Randomly stabbed to death at 2am.

I only just read about it and my 17 year old son is out with his friends. They just walk about, chat, get a burger.

I really want to ring him and tell him to come home. They stay out till the early hours sometimes.

I don't like it normally but there's literally a killer in the area.

Would you tell him to come home?

What a lovely country we live in now.

Same thing was happening in my uni days

OP the day after is probably the safest to be out. Killer unlikely to venture out tonight.

It was not happening when I was at University.

houndofhades. Flowers

Your poor ds and his friends (and if course the boy's family)
The chilling this is to could be any one of us in that situation.

LondonQueen · 27/10/2022 08:51

It's shocking the rate of knife crime in recent years, something needs to be done about it.

BagpussBagpussOldFatFurryCatpuss · 27/10/2022 08:51

This is desperately sad.

The MEN is reporting more information than GMP. All word from the street presumably.

It’s not helpful for anyone to speculate.
A devastating loss for his family and friends.

Cafenero35 · 27/10/2022 09:21

This is something males have to deal with from puberty really the whole “what are you looking at?” Thing. I’m not saying it doesn’t happen to girls but there won’t be a single male aged 20 that some dickhead hasn’t asked this question of and 99% of the time they weren’t even looking at them, it’s just an excuse to cause trouble and obviously at the extreme end this can happen

The new ish thing that really boils my piss is the ‘disrespect’ thing “he looked at me wrong” oh fucking grow up.

My son was drinking In Droylsden (Manchester) a couple of weeks ago and somebody said it to him in one of the pubs, my son can barely make eye contact at the best of times, he certainly wouldn’t be staring at random strangers. I know it must have really bothered him to tell me, he tells me bugger all normally and it hurts cause in telling me I know he’s really asking me what to do. I want to say head butt the tit into the after life but he’s just not like that so you’re left with “just ignore them son and go somewhere else”

No. They've not arrested anyone.

So how do they know they weren't known to each other?

It is very scary as a parent and whilst it feels like it happens a lot, it is still thankfully rare enough that it makes headline news.

As PP have said, the area will be safer currently and we do have to let our DC live their lives.

Awful news and devastating for the loved ones of this young man. It was opposite a complex with half a dozen Uni of Manchester halls of residence and it is always busy around there especially in term time.

It is a very busy stretch of road. Even at 2am in the morning. There are night buses all the way along the route so hopefully CCTV from buses and shops will be available. From student halls and student houses too hopefully.

They don't "let off" murderers!

No, with the right barrister, you get the charge downgraded and get out in a few months. 😡

Appledrop · 27/10/2022 10:33

Oh goodness, I've only just noticed this post. My son is a student and lives in a shared house in Fallowfied. Just texted him and he wasn't even aware of this happening. Told him to be vigilant and to stay safe.

Yes, I think that they will catch the murderer quite quickly.

Because the police have access to a lot more information than they've given out publicly. 🙄 There are likely to be witnesses who saw at least part of the attack.

Do you think the police have just guessed that they didn't know each other?

Agree @Cafenero35

@Octomore
Absolutely. This attack will have witnesses. People flagged down the police first on the scene according to GMP.
The tribute his parents have issued via GMP is heartbreaking.

BagpussBagpussOldFatFurryCatpuss · 27/10/2022 20:06

Attack… Murder. Sorry.

Macaroni1924 · 29/10/2022 22:46

@HoundofHades what a heartbreaking story. You are absolutely right and I’m sure moments like this are what makes parents appreciate that their child is home. What a horrible world we live in.

BCBird · 29/10/2022 22:52

I heard about this when I was driving. I agree with what people say about police presence etc. Could you suggest they do something in the day in future and for evrningbget togethers they are at each other's homes on.s rotational basis?

BagpussBagpussOldFatFurryCatpuss · 29/10/2022 23:41

Another 19 year old has been arrested and GMP say they’re not looking for anyone else.

DGay · 29/10/2022 23:48

I'd want him home, since they haven't caught the person. It may just be the one teenager that was killed. It could just be the start of killings.

If the person that did it was arrested, just tell him always be aware of anyone around him.
