Could Boris really be PM again?

His party voted him out, but now they want him back? Could it really happen?

If he returns, I'm going to stop watching the news. I can't bear it.

This is how I feel, I can't bear the thought of him gibbering away in front of the cameras all over again, unapologetically, arrogantly, so self assured. As much as I have hated the last couple of months I felt deep satisfaction at him not being PM anymore. What a fucking nightmare all this is. And I know we can say "oh well better chances for Labour in the long term" but I just think there's too much stupid in this country to feel any kind of hope right now.

Sarahconnor1 · 22/10/2022 15:50

If Johnson returns as PM then better the chances of the Tories being consigned to oblivion at the next election.

I disagree with this. A lot of people still really like Johnson, so his return is likely to benefit the tories at the ballot box more than Sunak or Mordaunt.

I think Labour would still win a GE but the tories will be thinking about how bad they want their beating.

And before anyone jumps on me, I have no idea why so many still like Johnson.

ParkheadParadise · 22/10/2022 15:53

Hopefully

  1. The arsehole turncoat Douglas Ross will need to resign as he publicly called for BAWBAG BORIS to go then changed his mind then changed it back again 🤣
  1. With BAWBAG BORIS back in No10 Scotland will be closer to Independence.
Libre2 · 22/10/2022 15:55

I just don’t get it - he was forced out for various reasons not two months ago - those reasons are still there - how can it even happen?

JuneOsborne · 22/10/2022 15:57

I don't get why he'd want to. He'll earn significantly more not being pm, he's already in the ex-pm club, his name is already in the history books.

woff45 · 22/10/2022 16:00

@JuneOsborne this is entirely about ego, not salary.

The Tory MPs think the grass root voters like BoJo. If they pick BoJo, then the grass root traditional red wall area MP can keep their seat. It is all about party policies rather than what's good for the country.
BoJo lies. He is not capable of getting anything done. Grass root voters think he "got Brexit done". How?! We are in a mess - high cost of living, high inflation and high borrowing cost, covid unsuitable PPE costs the country a fifth of its NHS England annual budget.
They just blame other people for their mistakes. Never their fault.

QueefofSheena · 22/10/2022 16:01

According to the BBC Sunak already has 114 declared MPs to Johnson’s 50 and Mordant’s 20-odd. I know that there are lots of undeclared MPs but Sunak does seem to be way out in front.

Justkidding55 · 22/10/2022 16:04

Yeah he will get in and carry on being an idiot who is always on holiday and lying and his supporters will lap it up because they too are idiots.
the fact that he is the best the tories can offer says it all.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 22/10/2022 16:05

Johnson back as PM is actually the best possible result. It will only be a few weeks before the lying bastard does something stupid again and we can carry on watching the Tories implode.
There is a risk that Sunak could actually make a half decent job of pulling things together and come a general election in 2 years the public may be too stupid to remember the chaos that this party has caused.

Blocked · 22/10/2022 16:06

It doesn't really matter who wins - both Sunak and Johnson are going to be divisive. I think they have reached the stage where the party can't be united until they have something to unite against.

Mumski45 · 22/10/2022 16:10

I honestly don't know why the Tory party are doing this again. Their members f&@ked it up last time and voted for someone who has trashed the economy more than it was already and now here they go again about to vote in a liar who will now think he has got away with his abysmal behaviour and be even worse this time.

This. Various people I have encountered in the past week who are generally not troubled by critical thought, are all of the ‘poor old Boris’ camp. If he gets back in the same idiots will keep buying all the bullshit and vote Tory again in a GE. It’s terrifying.

Presumably Sunak will calm the markets a bit, which is beneficial to a lot of us in the shorter term, even though I despise the lot of them .

At least he's got experience!

So did the titanic's captain!

PotKettleB · 22/10/2022 16:13

Sunak will get it unless he holds off realising that letting Bojo handle the economic shitstorm will completely do for him. Johnson had to do Brexit, then do Covid - he doesn’t mind bad news. He is also the man that the electorate voted in. So let him carry the can. Rishi can swoop in later, closer to the GE.

MotherOfRatios · 22/10/2022 16:13

To be honest, it's only penny that has officially declared herself. Everyone is just getting Johnson and Sunak are in the race.

BoJo has said he wants to stand because he can make the Conservative party electable again. If we're really lucky his ego would lead him to call an early election to prove his prowess and popularity. Bingo! The Tories are out of power and his ego takes a bashing. But if he didn't call an election the next one doesn't have to be until 2024 and he could do a lot of damage between now and then.

I don't have any particular party political allegiance but what the Conservatives are doing to the people of the UK and to its reputation are abhorrent.

Cuck00soup · 22/10/2022 16:18

Oh god please let this be a bluff.

I'm just clinging on to the fact that the Sunak/Truss contest was closer than expected. Is it too much to hope that the members aren't quite as keen on Johnson as they are painted to be?

bobbieflekman · 22/10/2022 16:19

KonTikki · 22/10/2022 15:42

The only way to view this Tory imposed charade is to play the long game.
If Johnson returns as PM then better the chances of the Tories being consigned to oblivion at the next election.
And that thought makes me oh so happy.

I agree with this

CrotchetyQuaver · 22/10/2022 16:26

God I hope not, they kicked him out because he was lazy, dishonest, useless and a law unto himself. Proved himself unfit for office as various people had warned he was before he won the leadership election. I can't see how he could form a cabinet of competent ministers as they all resigned last time. But it's all so crazy right now that anything could happen.

Johnson's popularity when he left office was very low, net positivity of -53 in July - he used to be popular but is now only supported by die hards.

Only 27% would be pleased to have him back according to polling this week.

he is homeless isnt he?

I bet that Liz has put Farrow and Ball Insipid Porridge over the wallpaper already.

Lurkerlot · 22/10/2022 16:48

I think he will get in, disband the standards committee by calling an election. He will say we listened, you want an election and I’m here to deliver it.

If (and it’s a big if at this point!) he has the 100 mp votes needed then he’s as good as PM already.

The idiotic Party members won’t even consider someone else.

Why are we subject to these members deciding for the country again and again Angry
