Good morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa, in silence, & watching the breeze in the big sycamore at the end of my garden. Love being first up & my quiet start to the day.

The washer's on, and there are 2 more loads to be done but I don't think I'll do them today - towels and tea towels, they can probably wait til tomorrow. Uniforms all got done last night & are almost dry.

Me and dd1 are off to The Fillers gig in Sheffield later so I'm sure she'll be getting up soon to shower/shave/stick false lashes/dither about what to wear 🤣 She's very excited!

Dd2's going out for dinner with their dad, I think they'd decided on Cosmo, so she will probably do the same as dd1 🤷‍♀️

Dd1 wants to leave about 1:30 so we can eat in Sheffield so I plan to get myself dressed shortly & spend the day sketching my next set of story spoons before we leave.

What about all of you? 🙂

I've been awake since 4.45, thanks DS3 (both in age and order).

Next up soft play, then lunch, walk in the woods and dinner.

Nothing spectacular!

CrunchyCarrot · 22/10/2022 09:07

I'm having a fairly quiet day (excluding the cat meowing - he must have the loudest meow of any cat I've ever had!). I am going to be doing some writing of a short story I had an idea for a couple of days ago.

I mainly responded because I am intrigued by 'story spoons' - what are they?

Rowgtfc72 · 22/10/2022 09:10

Morning!
Washers on. 3 to go as it rained yesterday.
House to clean. ( need a 3rd cuppa yet)
Just had an omelette for breakfast while playing tug with new puppy- means I get to eat in relative peace.
Dh at work, teenager dd still in bed so enjoying an empty house. A rare thing
Looking forward to skyping my brother later.

Enjoy the gig later.

@CrunchyCarrot props to re-tell the stories we're reading at work. My last ones were the Three Billy Goats Gruff.

Good morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I was awake and up at 5 😩 , made a cup of coffee and drank it in bed . Off to collect new glasses and then I'm going to have a look at kitchen worktops . Not feeling great, a bit achey but that might be because I went bowling on Thursday and am massively unfit !

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 22/10/2022 09:14

It’s a pumpkin patch day- after a wk of rain I’m expecting a mud bath!

Rowgtfc72 · 22/10/2022 09:14

Oh I love them.
I wonder if I could make a giraffe one..........😁

SeptemberSon · 22/10/2022 09:16

I'm enjoying a lovely long lie in. DH has taken DS to gymnastics and he's got a party straight after so they'll be out til 1pm. Me and the dog are still in bed and I have Ideal Home magazine, a coffee and a croissant. Bliss. Then I'll take over this afternoon and probably do some pumpkin carving with DS and our neighbours kids. DH is out tonight so I'm planning on getting a dominos and bingeing old episodes of Greys once DS is in bed.

MarcelEtCeleste · 22/10/2022 09:16

Mornin’! I also love calm mornings to myself but unfortunately I’m not experiencing that today. I stupidly had champagne on an empty stomach last night and feel pretty rough. 🙈

When I recover, we’re going to blow the cobwebs away with a walk around the arboretum, which is always lovely in autumn.

Later on I’ll tackle the Mount Washmore that’s been growing in the utility room and have a good tidy and clean as we’re in dire need of a reset. Haven’t decided on dinner yet but it’s probably going to be some form of traybake, maybe with some butternut squash.

Enjoy your day and the gig this evening!

Decafflatteplease · 22/10/2022 09:17

Morning @lucysmam and all!

I was up from 6.30 with toddler, gave DH a much needed lie in. We had a lovely time, I got settled on couch with tea and blankets while toddler did jigsaws.

Everyone up now, got 2 loads of washing on the line as today is the most sunny day all week I think.

First day of half term today, much needed!

Teens are pottering around, there's rumours of making eggs for brunch.

Not sure on plans for later we usually go out on a Saturday afternoon. Most people want to go swimming but as it's a beautiful day I would rather do something outside. Will be a majority vote though!

Need to do a freezer rummage for tea, DH off out this evening with friends so will eat there. I might just cook for DC (burgers and wedges maybe) then get myself a takeaway delivered later on.

Have a lovely Saturday all!

Kim82 · 22/10/2022 09:17

Morning!

So far today I’ve put the food shop away that’s been delivered, hung out a load of washing and the second load is in.

Dh is at work today, the teenagers (plus an extra one who stayed last night) are still asleep and probably won’t wake up til after 12 ish. My youngest is going to a water park with her friend from school then to a kid’s scarefest thing in a local park so is being picked up in around an hour and won’t be home til 7.30pm ish.

The 15 year old wants to go and stay at dh’s parents tonight so we’ll drop her off later and me, dh and 18yo dd will go out for dinner somewhere cheap and cheerful.

I have the day pretty much to myself so I think I’m going to clean up then find something to binge watch all day sat on my backside after a nightmare week at work.

Dh is going out tonight so once the youngest is in bed it’s just me and the eldest so we’ll probably watch a film or and eat some junk food.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 22/10/2022 09:19

I am on my way to the Filia conference in Cardiff. Travelling on my own, nervous and excited!

The6thQueen · 22/10/2022 09:21

It’s DD(9)’s birthday. I’m about to get up - just been having a quiet cuppa in bed, courtesy of DH - then I’m going down to finish her cake. Baked the rainbow layers last night, now to decorate ☺️
Then to get ready for her 3 friends coming for a sleepover. Hot chocolate, popcorn and pizza galore - can’t wait, it’ll be a blast 😁

CrunchyCarrot · 22/10/2022 09:22

Oh wow those are delightful @lucysmam! What sort of paint do you use?

MarcelEtCeleste · 22/10/2022 09:25

Wow! @WorkingItOutAsIGo You’ll have to report back on that. Sounds really interesting.

Fireballxl5 · 22/10/2022 09:29

Having a coffee atm.
Then must get on as dn arriving this afternoon for a few days.
She’s one of the few who visits regularly since we moved so I like to have everything nice for her.
The dog is getting groomed today but she doesn’t know it yet!

ListenLinda · 22/10/2022 09:33

Morning!
So far I have stripped our bed and washed it, it’s now in the dryer. Dismantled the bed ready for DH to put the new one up when he gets home.
Argued with DD about why she can’t put her party clothes on now for a party that starts at 3pm.
Got both kids dressed, tidied round, having a coffee before wrapping the presents for said party.

Then i’ll get mysef dressed before going to get DD shoes to wear for the party and then go to my Mum & Dads for a bit. DS will stay there until DH picks him up.

Will help DH with what he hasn’t managed to do before making the bed and sitting down to an evening in front of the TV.

An unusually busy day, our weekends are usually pretty chill.

JMAngel1 · 22/10/2022 09:34

Really lovely lazy start to the day - first morning in 13 days that we haven't had to be up and out before 7.15am.

So I've had a cuppa in bed whilst reading my book. Dds playing roblox downstairs.

About to go and peel apples to make apple cinnamon muffins and then hang out 2 loads of washing.

Then going to have a bath and a pamper.

This afternoon going to pop with DDs to the village for a household shop run (need nice smelling cleaning products and autumn candles) have a mooch around some charity shops and then go to a coffee shop.

Then pizza and wine later whilst watching a Halloween film - might watch Hocus Pocus 2 again as DDs love it.

Perfect Saturday

lucysmam · 22/10/2022 09:34

Thanks @CrunchyCarrot I just use acrylic paints from The Works - work did have some but they were dreadful to use (not that I have much experience of these things, but the ones from The Works are nicer imo). Then a coat of clear yatch varnish to seal them.

@WorkingItOutAsIGo I had to google where you're off to, that sounds a very interesting day!

@The6thQueen your dd's cake & day sounds fab! I hope she has a lovely birthday 🎉

Singleandproud · 22/10/2022 09:35

We are having a pottering day to day, DD has tennis this am and rugby all day tomorrow. I'm just starting half term, got all the washing done last night, uniform and work clothes are nearly dry so hope to get that all ironed today. I've got one box of books to mark. Then once that's all done I'm looking forward to a week off. I'm leaving teaching at christmas so this is my last proper half term off I guess. DD is getting older and doesn't want to stay in with me as much anymore prefers to be out and about with her friends so I need to find something to fill my time.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 22/10/2022 09:38

Love these threads. DH has taken DD 9 for her swimming lesson. I'm getting up in a minute for a shower. Started my period yesterday and still got a headache so going to clear the garage out. Getting my nails done at lunchtime then got a drum lesson. Then probably nothing after that. Happy Saturday! Those spoons are fab @lucysmam

TeddyTed · 22/10/2022 09:41

Morning all, I had a work event yesterday so was out of the house from 7.30am til 10pm, and had to battle several trains to get there and back, so I am having a lovely quiet day at home today. DH is off out cycling just now, I have some laundry and work bits to catch up on, and I am planning mountains of cuppas and some cake today to see me through those. I have some home grown apples and pears too from my mum so I’ll plan something to bake with them, I’ll probably do that tomorrow.

wineandsunshine · 22/10/2022 10:00

I am still in bed enjoying my first lie-in of the half term. I am going to strip the bed, have a cuppa and then start planning my 'teacher to-do list'.

Teenagers in bed, youngest off to footie with DH. This afternoon, we will drive to the seaside and have a few hours fresh air followed by a takeaway!

Sanch1 · 22/10/2022 10:02

I am on a train travelling home with a hangover following a couple of days away with work. Should be home at lunchtime and will rescue DH by taking the 3 DCs out to a friends then a birthday party to give him a couple hours to himself. Tonight will be an early night!

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 22/10/2022 10:11

Lie-in till 7.30 (normally up just after 6!) then breakfast of smashed avocado in front of fire. Dash about like lunatic getting swimbags together and now watching 4yo DD2 on her noodle... 7yo DD1 and 4yo DS in other pools with their teachers!

After this into town to pick up some stuff - DH needs a new phone charger - and then DD1 has gymnastics and I need to help DM move some heavy stuff at hers.

Pretty busy day but feeling ahead of myself as all uniform washed and dried and about 2/3 of it ironed, so feels like a good start to half term!
