Is there a way to reset an iPhone without any details

I’m guessing not otherwise people would rob them left right and centre!

bought now Ex a phone, he was going to pay me back, he didn’t, I now have the phone but he’s refusing to give me the Apple ID or pin code so it’s essentially a v pricey paperweight.

I cannot for the life of me find any record of my purchasing it, I must’ve stupidly deleted it

im guessing there’s nothing to be done but holding out some hope!

Is the passcode attached to the phone or the SIM card I wonder? My instinct would be to try a different SIM in it.

MyMomUsesColorSafeBleach · 21/10/2022 14:24

Thank you! I’m almost certain it’s attatched to the phone but worth a shot! 🤞🏻

Do you have a record of the model no

Do you want to keep any details or is a factory reset which gets rid of anything ok?

FinallyHere · 21/10/2022 18:37

First thing to try is the answer to factory reset no password

support.apple.com/en-gb/HT204306

Alternatively, take your proof of purchase to any Apple Store and have them reset it for you.

MyMomUsesColorSafeBleach · 21/10/2022 18:39

Annoyingly I had a huge clear out of my emails and it must’ve got caught up because I have no proof of purchase and don’t have the box so no serial number 🙃

I don’t mind if the entire thing is wiped, I’d like to use the phone myself so would want to set it up with my Apple ID

thanks all, I’ll try the factory reset on the computer 🤞🏻

Damn, computer wants the iCloud login as it doesn’t match the one iTunes is logged in with!

anyone want to buy a really expensive paperweight?

You have your bank statements showing the payment though?
And you can login to whichever website you ordered it from and go to your order history.

Order confirmation from the website plus your bank statement. That's two forms of proof of purchase.

SpringSparrow · 22/10/2022 10:43

Where did you purchase it from? You maybe be able to look at your purchase history from the store? John Lewis has a thing called something like kitchen drawer which keeps a record of your purchases. Amazon also let’s you search your purchases. Maybe apple does too?

hellosunshineday · 22/10/2022 10:51

There must be a way to do it, otherwise people wouldn't bother trying to steal iPhones.

Firstly, if you pop out the SIM card, I think the phone's IMEI number is usually printed on the SIM tray. Then, suggest going through bank/credit card statements to see if you can find the purchase. If you can, contact Apple Support (along with the IMEI) and the proof of purchase and they might be able to help you.

I've "hard reset" one in the past using just the buttons on the phone (I.e the home and volume buttons).

The combination depends on the model. This was an iPhone 8, not sure if you can do it with newer models.

orangeisthenewpuce · 22/10/2022 11:08

Go to some dodgy looking phone shop in a v rough area and ask. They might know how to wipe the phone.

HelpMeGetThrough · 22/10/2022 11:32

Give any of these a try:

iPhone X, 8 & Newer: Press and hold the Volume up button, then the Volume Down button, and the side button at the same time.

iPhone 7 / 7 Plus: Press and hold the Volume Down and the side button at the same time.

iPhone 6S & older: Press and hold both the Side and Top buttons.

MyMomUsesColorSafeBleach · 22/10/2022 12:09

Thanks all!

I’ve got a bank statement but paid partly in vouchers so it’s not quite the same amount, really annoyed because I was going to buy from John Lewis but couldn’t be bothered to go and they didn’t have it online, I would’ve had my receipt in the my John Lewis app!

ove tried the side button trick but no success - it’s an iPhone 13 so I think it only works on older models sadly!

tempted by the dodgy mobile phone shop now!

Where did you buy it? Try looking in your account there, they usually store order history.

Alarm59 · 22/10/2022 12:19

If you’ve paid in vouchers, can find the date of purchase, got a bank statement and it’s a decent retailer, they should be able to track this and print off a receipt

HelpMeGetThrough · 22/10/2022 12:24

Just found this for iPhone 13. Don't know if it works, but worth a try.

What a *** your ex is not giving you the pin. You're well shot of him.

You need a pin to be able to do a hard reset unfortunately.

HumourReplacementTherapy · 22/10/2022 13:18

Where did you buy it from? You've only said where you didn't buy it from so can't really help. If direct from Apple then you'll be ok

MyMomUsesColorSafeBleach · 22/10/2022 14:11

It was curry’s but I don’t have an account, must’ve checked out as a guest which is y uncommon for me but I’ve emailed asking them if they can help

thabks all

Tip of the iceberg with him!

Hes so shit with phones that I expected this to be smashed which would’ve made the loss easier to bare 😂 but it’s fucking immaculate 😔😂

if he dies not want to give you the password thats understandable.
he can login icloud.com himself go to find my iphine and remove device from there.
then you can try to do a factory reset

MyMomUsesColorSafeBleach · 22/10/2022 14:35

He won’t do that either. I demanded the phone back so this is his grown up way of going “you asked for the phone back, you didn’t ask for it to be usable”

Hope his next partner gets him a fisher price one because that’s about all he can manage

OP posts:
plusk · 22/10/2022 16:04

Ask him nicely, without it the phone is useless. You can say, you did him a favor and now he can return it.

MyMomUsesColorSafeBleach · 22/10/2022 16:19

No I’m not going to contact him just to ask him again, forever a paperweight it shall be!
