Toilet sign on downstairs loo….weird?

Is it a bit weird to put a loo sign on downstairs loo? It’s not immediately obvious which door it is….but most people who visit know where it is. And anyone else would ask….?

Are you asking for yourself or is this someone you know?

ShippingNews · 20/10/2022 13:12

I would, if it's not obvious. I've got a sign on mine, because it's in a long hallway and it would be hard to guess which door is which.

DenholmElliot1 · 20/10/2022 13:13

It's old fashioned.

Lavendersummer · 20/10/2022 13:13

I have one - I have quite a few visitors and it’s just helpful. Plus I like the sign it’s quite pretty

BorisJohnsonsHair · 20/10/2022 13:14

Put up a funny one.

Malariahilaria · 20/10/2022 13:15

I had to put one on because it looks like the understairs cupboard, because that's what it used to be. It's a small sign just saying 'loo' on simple white block of wood. Don't care if it's naff.

bigbluebus · 20/10/2022 13:16

I've considered it but not done it. We've got 2 doors next to each other - one is the toilet the other a cupboard. It's not obvious which is which until you've opened the door. TBH we usually just show anyone who hasn't been here before.

gorillalala · 20/10/2022 13:20

We have a little 'WC' sign as people used to get confused and then ask. They still ask now 😆
I don't care if anyone thinks it's odd, I like it!

SandyGussetButton · 20/10/2022 13:24

We've got a HP "Room of Requirement" sign on ours. (And a "This way to the ministry of magic" on the cistern...)

mamabear715 · 20/10/2022 13:48

My kids bought one for me. Labyrinth. 'Bog of Eternal Stench'..

ladycarlotta · 20/10/2022 14:04

This is probably outing but I have a little vintage doll's house toilet stuck on the door with a command strip. It looks cute and leaves people in no doubt.

PurBal · 20/10/2022 14:07

@BarrelOfOtters based on your username do you live in Devon?

I don’t think it’s odd, especially if you have a lot of doors. I still manage to turn left instead of right sometimes when given clear instructions.

BarrelOfOtters · 20/10/2022 14:35

@PurBal no….it’s a random name. Why? Is it a local thing?

OP posts:
PortiasBiscuit · 20/10/2022 14:38

I put them in when my Aunt visited. She has dementia. That is as 6 years ago but they are still there.
As long as it’s not a cute shabby chic sign saying. “Poo Room” it’s probably acceptable!

Anniefrenchfry · 20/10/2022 14:42

I have little gold man and woman figures , about 3 inches high on the door. Guests seem to find it amusing.

mavismorpoth · 20/10/2022 14:48

Of all the things in life that could be weird, a sign on a door is not one of them.

What are some other things you think might be weird?

PurBal · 20/10/2022 14:51

Otter is the name of (my favourite) brewery. The phrase “do you want to get a barrel of otter?” isn’t an unusual one 😂 think they had it at Glastonbury this year, not that I went. Sorry to derail!

Scottishgirl85 · 20/10/2022 14:58

I have, only because I love pretty signs! To be fair it does help as we've quite a big house and the kids always have different friends round (our adult family and friends usually know where it is!).

Toilet sign on downstairs loo….weird?
ShaunaTheSheep · 20/10/2022 15:01

Never occurred to me, but ours is right where you'd expect to be. I suppose you could open the coat cupboard but 🤷‍♀️

LoraOldSpot · 20/10/2022 15:12

Oooh I’ve been thinking this for our house! But I’m worried I just want one as I can buy a nice flowery from Etsy (I have an Etsy addiction!)

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 20/10/2022 15:30

Could you replace the door with a fully glazed one? Then people can easily see where it is. Saves all that mucking about with a twee sign.

Season0fTheWitch · 20/10/2022 15:31

We have a wreath on the bathroom door (it's in the hallway, and the only place to hang one) when we have gatherings or parties I have a little 'loo' sign that hangs in the middle of it. It's quite handy

kitcat15 · 20/10/2022 15:32

DenholmElliot1 · 20/10/2022 13:13

It's old fashioned.

Says you 🙄

steppemum · 20/10/2022 15:33

we have one, because we regularly hold meetings at our house, and generally have a lot of people through the door who don't necessarily know the house.
It saves embarrassment and just makes life easier.
(for this reason we bought a house with a downstairs loo too)

steppemum · 20/10/2022 15:37

and our sign is probably very naff. dd made it years ago. She chose to paint the background with green glitter paint, and then stick scrabble letters on.
They make an acrostic with LOO, TOILET, BOG, WC.

Not exactly my choice but I don't really care
(and I've just outed myself to anyone who has visited my house 😂)
