Hello Fresh or Gousto?

I'm thinking of trying out Hello Fresh or Gousto and wondered if anyone had tried either company and which one would you recommend?

Thanks

Gusto every time!

PickleSarnie · 19/10/2022 09:34

Gousto definitely.

Their recipe cards are smaller and fit in the folder they give you. They also don't use pots of mixed spices like Hello Fresh do. I found those pots really frustrating because it meant you couldn't easily recreate the meal again.

We rarely get gousto - just when we get stuck in a rut or there's a special offer on - but we cook gousto meals pretty much every evening (using food we bought on regular shop)

PickleSarnie · 19/10/2022 09:34

Posted too soon. Basically - we have never, ever had a bad meal with gousto. Love it.

BruceAndNosh · 19/10/2022 09:35

Tried both and stuck with gousto as better choice and cheaper.
But haven't used Hello Fresh for several years so they may have improved variety - HF recipes are good and still form part of my cook from scratch repertoire

TheSausageKingofChicago · 19/10/2022 09:36

I wasn’t overly impressed with Hello Fresh but have heard good things about Guosto.

kateandme · 19/10/2022 09:36

Loads of codes going round for gousto right now too!

maskersanonymous · 19/10/2022 09:37

Had both recently. Gousto I think are slightly better recipes... but Hello Fresh were easier and packaged much better - each meal individually bagged whereas with Gousto I had to sort everything out. My children can also cook the Hello Fresh ones which is obviously a huge bonus and I think they prefer the recipes... try both!

Lmgify · 19/10/2022 09:37

Prefer hello fresh meals, but as I have a dairy allergy you can’t filter by dietary requirements whereas you can with gusto. So I have to go into the recipe itself to check it doesn’t have dairy in it

WokingOrNot · 19/10/2022 09:38

I'd choose Gousto. More variety and cheaper. We used to alternate but HF kept missing ingredients every time so that's why we switched. But maybe they've improved since.

FamilyTreeBuilder · 19/10/2022 09:39

Haven't tried Hello Fresh but like Gousto. Portion sizes are good, the meals are tasty.

My only bugbear is all the plastic sachets.

LittleRen · 19/10/2022 09:41

Gousto - Hello Fresh I found had so many creamy meals with stock in, not my thing at all.

Gousto now package all dry ingredients like spices in one bag, it's so much better in my option - there was so much wasted packaging before. It only takes a second to sort them out.

I've PM'd you a money off code if you want to try.

I’ve been using gousto for years but finally gave up and cancelled it for good last week. It gets delivered by Evri now, there’s no temperature control in the vans and the foods turning up warm with the freezer packs melted. Over the last 2 months I’ve not had a single week where I’ve managed to cook every meal before something went off. The annoying thing is they only refund you for the meat or whatever that’s gone bad, not for the entire meal thats ruined and had to go in the bin (and I’ve then had the inconvenience of having to go to the shops and buy and cook something else for dinner). The last straw was last week when the evri delivery man dumped the box in my front garden without even knocking the door (got this on cctv), the box was in direct sunlight for 6 hours before I noticed it. All the food was warm to the touch. The whole box went in the bin, tbf gousto gave me a full refund after I sent them the video but I’m done with them now.

FamilyTreeBuilder · 19/10/2022 09:45

All of the Gousto recipes are online too.

GetOffTheRoof · 19/10/2022 09:46

Gousto. I've used it for years with very few problems - my box yesterday definitely did not have melted ice packs, so I'm not sure what the PP has had happen!

Shameless posting of discount link if anyone wants to try it - you get 65% off your first box and then 25%off any additional boxes for your first two months....and I get £20 account credit:

If anyone wants some tips, gousto lists the exact ingredients and amounts they use for each recipe. What I did this week and what I’ll do from now on is pick all the gousto recipes I want for the week and then order the ingredients from Asda. I’ve posted a pic of what I picked this week which comes to £52 from gousto. The exact same ingredients came to £29 in Asda, they were fresher and better quality and nothing turned up warm and rotten!

Ihatethenewlook · 19/10/2022 09:49

Forgot to add the pic 🙄 this came to £29 in Asda, plus I can tweak the recipe a bit to different veg that me and the kids prefer

millerpie · 19/10/2022 09:51

Gousto definitely, been getting them for the last five weeks no problems aside from a couple of missing recipe cards everything fresh, long dated and all the meals have been great.

givinglessfucksdaily · 19/10/2022 09:57

I love my Gousto but would not pay the full price for a box , you need to keep getting the referral credit to make it cheaper

Easy to pause subscription, customer service also quite good once you suss out how to message them 🙄

TheVelvetOnion · 19/10/2022 10:54

Definitely Gousto for me! I've been using them for years and it's an amazing way to try new recipes. There's so many to choose from and loads of new ones to try all the time. Love it!

I have tried Hello Fresh too. I received a couple of heavily discounted boxes from my sis in law to try out but I really didn't like them. The recipes were boring and bland, they were also really high in calories too which I wasn't keen on. I didn't cook any of them again whereas with my Gousto ones I go back and cook over and over again!

Okbye · 19/10/2022 11:41

Used them both and still use Gousto. I found that the Hello Fresh food was never actually fresh (ironic!) And everything always seemed to be 'on the turn' so we had to throw stuff away before we'd been able to use it.

No such problems with Gousto and we've been using them for over 2 years☺️

emmathedilemma · 19/10/2022 12:20

Gousto - more choice and never had missing ingredients which was why I cancelled HF

ZeroFuchsGiven · 19/10/2022 12:23

Gousto!

janeylou25 · 19/10/2022 13:05

Thanks to all for your responses.

I just ordered my first Gousto box! It arrives on Sunday and I am getting excited.....

Just beware of eating the Basa fish if it's in any recipes. That's all I'm saying.
It's banned from being imported in the US ...
