I'm thinking of trying out Hello Fresh or Gousto and wondered if anyone had tried either company and which one would you recommend?

Thanks

Thanks to all for your responses.

I just ordered my first Gousto box! It arrives on Sunday and I am getting excited.....

Great. Do let us no. Post a pic😃

I’ve just ordered my first HF box and went from being impressed to not so much. The portion size was tiny (and before you jump on me saying I must be morbidly obese, I’m a size 6. I just don’t eat breakfast and have a small lunch/don’t snack, so dinner has to be quite substantial) This wasn’t! I ate almost all the 2-person portion. Lucky my husband (who is a rugby player and eats loads) is away or he would have starved lol.

While being small the meal was also super calorific. The meat they give you is super low-quality, basically all very high-fat mince. Every meat recipe is mince, and once cold you see how much fat there is. I’d never buy mince like that in the supermarket - I’d buy & eat way more but 5% fat rather than 25%.

We cook quite diverse flavours at home (no British food, mainly Asian/ME) and DH loves cooking but meal planning is an absolute chore. However the bad quality/high calories/small portions/price isn’t worth it for us over spending 1-2hrs a week meal planning and doing the online shop.

The mince Gousto use isn't high fat or watery

Just beware of eating the Basa fish if it's in any recipes. That's all I'm saying.
It's banned from being imported in the US ...

Exactly this! Nearly all the Gusto fish dishes are basa aka river cobbler aka pangassius. I was violently ill once from pub chain fish & chips serving this. There have been deaths from it too. Gusto is pretty good but had slimy spinach & off basil. Hello Fresh was good too to be fair.

Hello fresh if you've got children to feed and no time, as the recipes are for begginers so easy to do whilst not concentrating. Gousto I find spicier and more tasty but a lot more ingredients in a meal, all spices in separate bags, which I find fiddly. Both have been good

Thegoldgrind · 22/10/2022 18:35

Having tried both, I prefer Gousto. I've kept the recipe cards and regularly remake the meals we've particularly enjoyed 😋

AlwaysLatte · 22/10/2022 18:43

We tried Gousto after lots of friends and family raving about it but it has SO much plastic. But you could try it if a while, keep the recipe cards and get the ingredients in in bigger quantities.

Gousto - so much more choice especially if you're veggie. The meals are lovely and the packaging is so much better- all recyclable unlike hello Fresh which had a huge insulating sheet in it which wasn't recyclable.

DocMarteens · 22/10/2022 19:00

I've tried both. Started with Gousto and used it for 4 meals a week for 4 people for 2 years. They increased their price and often made mistake/substitutions. Great customer services if you can keep on being bothered letting them know. I cancelled regular deliveries because I felt taken for granted and too many mistakes.

Moved over to hello fresh 2 months ago - similar great choice, recipes are simpler with fewer stages. None of this pay extra for Joe Wicks business. Also easier to unpack with the way they put ingredients in paper bags. So far, hello fresh gets our vote and we are on a promo code for 10 weeks!

ArtistViv · 22/10/2022 19:16

Not tried Gousto, but have been using Hello Fresh for a few months now and find it to be absolutely superb. Love their dishes and the food has always arrived very fresh with (touch wood), nothing missing so far.

Either way, I think these things take the hassle out of meal planning, buying, and preparing etc, and I'm definitely eating healthier - am sure I'd have the same experience if I were using Gousto. Prior to this it was pizza or ready made quiche and frozen chips virtually every night, as I'm not the greatest cook. It's worth every penny as far as I'm concerned.

See you have opted for Gousto, hope you love it OP! 🍲🥙🥘

MarshmallowMadness · 22/10/2022 19:27

Gousto is definitely better (and a lot easier to cancel/pause as well. Hello Fresh was a pain). Their plant based recipes are amazing.

I have a code for Gousto for 65% off your first box if anyone wants it - Dm me.

Iwant2move · 22/10/2022 19:30

Gousto. Hello Fresh bombards you with phone calls if you stop plus the Guosto recipes are much better.

Jimmini · 22/10/2022 19:33

I found hello fresh crap for vegetarians. I couldn’t see the meals on offer unless I signed up, so signed up to see what was on offer and then couldn’t cancel my first box because it was “already on its way” even though I hadn’t even selected the options. It was all but scammy

RagnarorBjorn · 22/10/2022 19:45

I've been using Gousto for a few months now, great recipes to choose from and works out good value for us as I select 4 meals for 2 people even though we are a family of 4, I just add extra chicken/ potatoes/ veg etc. They also have a fantastic referral scheme, I have a code for 65% off first box and 25% off for the next 2 months cook.gousto.co.uk/raf/?promo_code=LAURE43345589&utm_source=weblink
It can be used 5 times and I would get a credit for each use, worth trying for you first box if nothing else!

BroomHandledMouser · 22/10/2022 19:54

Thanks @GetOffTheRoof 🙂

I have 4 meals coming next week that cost £17 🙏

Redrry · 22/10/2022 19:59

Love Gousto, changed my cooking life quite honestly

lurchermummy · 22/10/2022 20:36

I like Gousto but wish they did a 3 person option. 2 is not enough and 4 is too much - not everything is good for freezing.

workingeverysingkeday · 22/10/2022 21:34

I use both. I like them both. I use whichever offers a discount at the time.

BobbysGirly · 23/10/2022 00:36

I’ve used both. I loved HF to start with, until they started sending “fresh veg” which was anything but. I ordered once from Gousto. I wasn’t impressed so cancelled my dd.

Out of the two I preferred HF. Their recipes were more suited to my family’s taste.
