Easy dinners to please everyone

whatsdiswhatsdat · 16/10/2022 18:38

One of my go to dinners to keep everyone happy is to cook some breaded chicken goujons, usually the southern fried style, and plonk on the table with wraps, a bowl of homemade guacamole, some sour cream, grated cheese, a bowl of salad leaves, and various salsa/peri peri/chipotle type sauces.

Everyone helps themselves and makes their own wraps.

What's your go-to easy crowd pleaser?

I'm following for some inspiration!

Also following , hard when two children have different tastes 🤯

Easy one we all eat here is spaghetti bolognese, carbonara and pesto pasta !

whatsdiswhatsdat · 16/10/2022 18:52

Another help yourself dinner I do is baked potatoes for everyone with various toppings in bowls and everyone pleases themselves.

Pizzas - either home made or bought bases ( we also used to use ciabatta rolls sliced open) with tomato sauce. Everyone can choose own sliced or diced veg, grated cheese etc.

Fivemoreminutes1 · 16/10/2022 20:01

Mild veggie curry, chicken tikka kebabs, rice, naans or popadums, mango chutney and raita.
Sausages (sometimes I do two different type e.g. Cumberland and veggie, or spicey and herby), mash, peas, cabbage, onion gravy, mustard and apple sauce.
Peri peri chicken, corn on the cob, coleslaw, spicy rice, salad and Nando’s perinaise.
Build your own burgers - with cheese, gherkins etc….

Do you, I don't think I've got a single dinner that everyone loves?

The DC and I always enjoy salmon with new potatoes and green veg, but DH isn't keen.

Me, DS and DH love a chilli, but DD isn't keen.

DD, DH and I are very happy with steak and chips, but DS isn't keen.

And everyone loves fajitas...except me. I'm not keen.

Thankfully they all understand that you don't always getting your favourite, and sometimes you just have to eat what's on offer or go hungry.

Actually, having said all that, I think we all enjoy a curry. Both Indian and Thai.

PeloFondo · 16/10/2022 20:09

You could do chilli with wraps/rice, sour cream, salsa, salads etc make your own burritos
I don't like kidney beans so I make it with black beans. Turn any leftovers into nachos

Sugrny · 16/10/2022 20:31

A quick and easy favourite for my grandchildren which we also enjoy :
Cook some rice, cool it a little and add mayonnaise.
Add chopped up pickled beetroot and shredded tinned tuna.
It tastes much nicer than it sounds!
We sometimes have it warm with peas and sweetcorn
-or cold with chopped cucumber and salad.

rainydaysandcake · 16/10/2022 20:36

Meatballs and pasta, meatballs are mad egg from sausage meat and everyone loves it and completely empty plates

AtleastitsnotMonday · 16/10/2022 20:37

The one that shouts to me is a roast, relatively easy but not necessarily quick. I guess that's because I like a roast with all the trimmings and lots of different veg, but acknowledge that if I scaled back a bit or bought ready prepped veg or sides it could be quicker. But it feels worth the effort because it is popular with everyone here and usually with any others that happen to join us.
Pasta dishes tend to go down well, simple things like a tomato, garlic and onion sauce with crispy bacon.
Also chicken and veg kababs but to be fair only if the marinade for the chicken is fairly basic, lemon and herb or paprika and some will pick off a veg they don't like (mushrooms are controversial here!) to be honest usually just leave them off a few. Served with homemade coleslaw, toasted pita and salad.

Spaghetti in tomato sauce with cut up polish sausage

Kobrakid · 16/10/2022 20:43

I do new potatoes peppers carrots and small corn on the cob on a baking tray, with chicken. Combine finely chopped onions and garlic with oil and herbs to pour over top and bake in oven. Really easy, can get most of it prepared ahead of time, can put whatever veg you want etc. Daughter loves it, especially with a slice of nice crusty bread. Dp will eat anything though 😂

RosesAndHellebores · 16/10/2022 20:46

Roast chicken, new potatoes, coleslaw and salad.

Gammon, egg and chips.

I like the sound of this one.

Nothing pleases everyone here. DH is a vegetarian who likes fruit and salads and gets a stomach ache if he eats anything more complicated than that. DS1 has sensory issues around food. At his most adventurous he can about cope with chicken and tacos with cucumber. DS2 eats everything. I eat everything. Even something like nutella on toast is eschewed by somebody.

I love this idea I'm doing this tomorrow 😊

Some fab ideas! I'm going to try a few out this week

Mini toad in the hole (I use a silicon muffin tray and precooked mini sausages) with rice and veg.

WeAllHaveWings · 16/10/2022 23:50

Roast chicken, salad, coleslaw and something like chips/croquettes/wedges. Ds likes his with nandos peri peri salt, I like some sweet chilli sauce on my chicken, dh has bbq sauce on his.

Not quick, but very easy and whole roast chicken is always tastier than portions or breaded. I stick the chicken (roast in bag variety) in the oven around 4ish if I am WFH, forget about it and it is ready around 5:30ish.

Everyone happy, including the dog who gets the scraps.

Goldmember · 17/10/2022 06:53

Roasted veg with chicken covered in Chinese salt and pepper seasoning.

Sausage pasta bake

Fish Burgers and chips

Peri peri chicken kebabs

kenadams86 · 17/10/2022 07:49

I made a quick sausage casserole in the slow cooker last week which went down well with everyone.

-Pasta dishes are a popular choice in my house, Tuna and sweetcorn or cheesy sauce

-Veggie, chicken burgers if in a rush

  • baked potatoes with different filling options
  • fajitas

I lack imagination most days because my kids are quite fussy

IamnotSethRogan · 17/10/2022 07:59

Toad in the hole is always a winner here

caroleanboneparte · 17/10/2022 08:54

The only meals we will all eat are:
Pizza
Macaroni cheese
Tomato pasta
Quorn Bolognaise

It's so boring, I feel like I'm living in Wetherspoons!

We love chili, but when we fancy a change we do sloppy joes - big bowl of chili, brioche buns, pickles, cheese, potato wedges and coleslaw.

givemushypeasachance · 17/10/2022 11:38

We would do "fun tea" as kids - essentially make up your own burgers, so cook burgers and toast buns, then lay out on table with various salad bits, sliced plastic cheese, sauce, etc.
