I'm useless at cooking but heard great things about quark so I bought some.... how can I use it? I'd fancy using it to make a creamy sauce if possible

My advice, throw it in the bin 🤢

Immeltinnnnngggg · 14/10/2022 17:10

Chuck it in the bin.

I think there's a nice Estonian cake made from it.

goldfinchonthelawn · 14/10/2022 17:15

It makes a lovely low fat carbonara. Beat two eggs into it with some garlic granules, grated nutmeg, teaspoon of dijon mustard and a good pinch each of thyme and smoked paprika.

Fry up some streaky bacon until crisp and then crumble it. Grate 30g of grana padano or mature cheddar or parmesan. Finely chop some parsley (optional)

Cook spaghetti until al dente. Steam some peas over the top of it. Drain, put pasta back in the pan and pour quark mix and grated cheese over it, stirring gently for two mins. Add the peas, bacon and parsely, Toss together and then serve. I want this for dinner now.

Good for making dips . Good for easy pudding. Add preserves, jam , or chocolate. I use it instead of whipped double cream to make cranachan. You can use it for making bechamel type sauces for things like lasagne and moussaka but I don't think it's worth it.

My mum makes a slimming world cheese cake using quark - stir options hot choc powder into it it's quite nice!

PieonaBarm · 14/10/2022 17:23

Throw it in the bin and use Philadelphia for whatever it was you were thinking.

It's awful stuff

SteveHarringtonsChestHair · 14/10/2022 17:24

I used it to make a lovely cheesecake once. I don’t do diets or healthy tweaks on recipes, but this was delicious.

CraigDavid · 14/10/2022 17:25

It's only fit for the bin

MermaidSwimming · 14/10/2022 17:35

I use it for quiche and carbonara

Quark is used in german cheesecake recipes and tastes absolutely delicious

FictionalCharacter · 16/10/2022 05:15

I have a chocolate and orange cheesecake recipe that uses it. Haven’t made it for ages but it was lovely - I think I’ll dig the recipe out!

Quiche

Indoctro · 16/10/2022 06:55

It's Nice as white sauce in lasagna

FelicityFlops · 16/10/2022 07:06

This is a favourite German recipe.
Beat quark well with milk until it goes glossy and is the consistency of thick cream.
Season with salt and pepper.
Add a selection of chopped herbs, often parsley, chives and dill. Stir in well, check seasoning.
Serve with boiled or steamed potatoes and a green salad or use as a topping for baked potatoes.
NOTE: It is important to add the right amount of milk and beat well, otherwise quark can taste a bit chalky.

You can also make a sweet version using sugar or honey (plus milk) and adding chopped fruit, strawberries are good (but not in season now) or fruit compote or chopped banana.

Oh. I cut the image quality down because the file was too big, and it looks awful. I'll try reducing it less.

Crustless quiche. You can make a dessert whisking it with sugar free jelly it’s like angel delight.

Cheesecake as above, and it's also great as a dough base.
