Unexpected loyalty points balance.

Hi,

NC for the post incase it got picked up by any stupid tabloids.

Just wondering where I stand with this.

Just been into a store that I go to regularly, completed my transaction with my loyalty and debit cards and glanced at my receipt to check the balance on the loyalty card.
I thought it seemed like a lot of points (197,767), and it didn’t have the normal second line where it tells you the cash value.
When I got back to my car I checked the app for the loyalty card and it says that I do have 197,767 points with a cash equivalent of £1977.67.

I thought I had between £19-£25 on there, wasn’t sure. I do go on regularly and load the offers and competitions but hadn’t had any contact saying I’d won anything.

When I got home I logged into my account properly on a browser and it looks like yesterday someone in customer service applied x9 Good will gesture points of 20,000 at a time, and then 1x further GWG of 15,200.

I did not have any interaction with this company yesterday, nor am I currently engaged in any complaint or dispute.

I think I’m going to ring them and tell them about it because I couldn’t take the anxiety of them trying to claw it back in cash or whatever if I spent the points.

But I just wondered what the law says about it all? Can misattributed points balances ever be clawed back in cash? Does the law consider them to be equivalent to cash?

Thank you.

Fantastic win @UnfairAdvantage 😊 congratulations!!

I’d go for a nice perfume, a new toothbrush, & some kind of over the top luxurious bubbly soaky smelly concoction for the bath that I’d never be able to justify spending ‘real money’ on 🤣🤣

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned it but they also have a website that sells appliances (I think it’s some kind of joint thing with AO) and you can use your points too 👍🏻 Could be worth a look if there’s anything you need!

I think I would buy
Perfume
New hairdryer/ curler/ waver thing(!)
New toothbrush shaver, epilator or something along those lines

Do they still do kitchen appliances?

Winter2020 · 14/10/2022 22:21

I'd try some moisturisers that I have heard of but never tried like clinique moisture surge, crem de la mer (or whatever it is called - if they sell it). Posh stuff! Also posh face wash and nice shower gels (Philosophy range?).

I tend to buy shower gels and shampoos etc that cost £1 so I would really enjoy the good stuff. I usually buy a couple of number 7 sets on offer at xmas though so I have face cream that I like that lasts all year.

I bet there are people in your family that would be delighted with a hamper of nice toiletries for Christmas.

Thinkingblonde · 14/10/2022 23:06

Congratulations! I’d get new spectacles, Clarins face cream, a new camera and some Xmas presents.
I had a nice surprise when I bought a new car, after we’d done the transaction the salesman gave me an envelope containing a Nectar card with points worth £300.00, a voucher for a free protective finish on the car seats and a bag full of car wash products.
Better than a bunch of flowers on the seat the last time I got a new car.

Luxurysleuth007 · 14/10/2022 23:10

Do treat yourself OP but I’d also keep some of the funds for your normal toiletries for the next couple of years. Congratulations!

I’ve constructed a bit of a list so that I don’t just go mad and end up with nothing to show for it;

  • New bougee electric toothbrush - still to decide which one.
  • Waterpik electric flosser.
  • Maybe a Dyson airwrap or the new shark tool - although not sure I need this, I’ve got a dyson hair drier and L’Oréal steampod pro, and I follow the curly girl method so not sure I need the curling aspect.
  • A years (or two years depending on expiry) supply of my normal multivitamins/supplements.
  • About 20 packs of compeed blister plasters because they’re expensive and I wear lots of Dr Martens.
  • 20 lip balms - I’m a lip balm addict.
  • Some nice bits of make up - but not loads because I already own more make up than I could ever realistically wear in a lifetime. I saw some nicely packaged NARS bits from the Xmas gift range. And I’d like to get something from Dior that comes in a nice compact that I can keep as a little momento of that time I won £2k.
  • A new illuminated make up mirror because mine no longer illuminates. Not sure whether to get the cheaper No7 one or go for the more spend SimpleHuman one.
  • One of those instax cameras and a tonne of film for it because that stuffs expensive.
  • I will treat myself to a few 100ml bottles of EDP - I’m thinking a Tom Ford, Narciso Rodriguez and Chanel fragrance.
  • I’ve also messaged my younger brother to tell him and said he can choose himself a big bottle of Tom Ford aftershave or whatever else he wants.
  • My other family members have declined anything and told me to enjoy it.
  • And I’ve offered my two best pals the opportunity to treat themselves, they both deserve it!
  • I’m going to call or email my local Womens Aid and see what they need right now in terms of toiletries or treats for their service users and get that for them.

I’ll probably look at Xmas presents too but this should keep me busy for now 😂

This sounds so good! If you can bear to wait, I think black Friday deals will start in a month ISH which should make the money go even further (assuming you have a while to spend!).

Sniffypete · 15/10/2022 17:06

Wow! I'd love for something like that to happen!
