Men making sheep noises at my dd and her friend

My 16 year old daughter and her friend left school during the day (they are allowed to leave and come back) to go to the corner shop. Some men working on a building site made loud sheep sounding noises at them - they didn’t turn round - the noises continued for ages. This site is very near the school - they must be doing it to every female teenager that walks past. Would you tell the school?

DD says this kind of thing happens all the time. Which I know it does and I see the way much older men ogle her. It’s shit. When is this going to improve Sad.

Actually yes. If it was my daughter I'd call the company up and tell them what's going on. Not acceptable in any way.

Thank you. I’ve emailed the school to let them know what’s going on and have asked them to speak to the people on site or the agents.

If they are sub contractors they will be off the job straight away if they are working for any reputable company. My daughter gets hassle from men in the street but very rarely if ever from construction workers. It used to happen a lot when I was young but most big companies have really cracked down on this and have very clear policies.

Definitely complain to the company and if they don't respond make it public by going to the local paper. I did this and got a full apology from a construction company.

Most larger construction companies have explicit worker policies now about not harassing women (or anyone), so it is definitely worth complaining, looking at the sign up and calling that number. It's not ok and it's not typical now either.

Get a few mums and dads together.
Walk a wee bit behind the girls so it looks like you aren't together.

When they catcall the girls, let the girls walk on. You lot stop in front of the builders and let em have it!

Tell them in no uncertain terms that that is harassment and it's not acceptable, how young the girls are etc etc.

Absolutely go off on one at them.

Well, that's what I would do. Sexist bastards.

Well if it is a well known local building company they can call up the head office and tell them what their builders are doing. Harassing their pupils. That's reasonable to think they would do that.

You should also contact the site or building company directly and make a complaint - it's not just the school's responsibility to complain.

Contact the company on the site. That isnt the school's job. It's good for the school to know but you know about it, it was your daughter, contact the company.

They'll be kicked off with sharpish.

Wild whistling is a crime now so they've started other shit. I'd also report it online to the police as any kind of harassment isnt actually legal.

I lived next door to new-builds being constructed. 2 of the builders would make a cuckoo or a clicking noise when a young girl walked past, to alert each other of a passing female they could both oogle. That way they can deny cat-calling and whistling if it should be escalated.

Just complain to the site manager/agent.if it’s big enough site it’ll have their tel number up for you to ring.( usually up on hoarding)The larger companies will take direct action against workers or contractors on site with regards to this behaviour

They all should have policy in place to combat this issue.

Any signage should bring up the company- just tell them and they should sort it.

My husband is currently cross for you- he says that this all covered by the Egan and the Latham reports- and he is currently quoting rules at me!!
