I'm dying of cringe here. I feel so tense.I didn't even do the crime but I've got palpitations here.

My mate just sent our Cookery WhatsApp group a photo of her boyfriend proposing to her. Another member of the WhatsApp group forwarded the photo to a different WhatsApp group, let's say a Jigsaw WhatsApp group, with a not-so-complimentary message.

Unbeknownst to the forwarder, the newly engaged mate is also in the Jigsaw WhatsApp group.

The Jigsaw WhatsApp group is very quiet. Eerily quiet.

Oh my god. My actual heart.

[WhatsApp groups aren't actually Cookery and Jigsaws - invented to protect the identities of those involved].

I don't have anything to relate this experience to. The worst it got for me was when I once text my boss a picture intended for DP.

DP was, say, Dave in my contact list and my boss was, say, Davey.
The picture was of a terrible, terrible, non-risen, beige stodge-fest of a cake I'd made on my day off with the accompanying message "I'm a shit head".

After I'd reassured my boss I wasn't having a breakdown (just bad a baking), it was all fine. I changed DP's name in my contact list very soon after.

I sent my boss a text bitching about her, which I meant to send to my DH. I didn't know what to do so pretended I'd sent a sex text to her by mistake so she'd give me her phone. Probably my most shameful memory!!

Mum233 · 10/10/2022 20:36

Yes a horrific one. I can barely type it.
I was pregnant with DD and had five previous miscarriages at around 6-7 weeks. With DD I was understandably paranoid it would all go wrong. At around this time in the pregnancy I went to the loo at work and was bleeding. I went into huge upset and panic and text my DH a message explaining what the blood and discharge looked like along with a picture. I was so so upset. In the emotional panic I sent it to the last person who had messaged me…DH’s best friend 😳I couldn’t even face him for ages after that.
turned out ok in the end. DD was fine and that best friend is her godfather!

FattyAirways · 10/10/2022 20:34

Why would you say that but not explain it?

🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m waiting for the OP to come back after the erroneous blue tick comment. Is that OK?

Shirty48 · 10/10/2022 20:40

Many many years ago I worked in HR at the HQ of a group of manufacturing companies. It was pay award time and I was tasked with sending out letters to the Managing Directors of the individual companies to confirm their pay increase. I managed to email the letter addressed to the MD who was getting a huge pay increase to one that had a much lower salary and wasn’t getting any increase that year 😳. Amazingly I kept my job, but it taught me to be a lot more careful.

DanteThunderstone · 10/10/2022 20:41

I received a text from my brother saying 'get your little arse round here, sexy' and then a few seconds later another extremely superfluously explaining that it wasn't meant for me.

Dontletthebastardsgrindyoudown · 10/10/2022 20:42

No but my mother in law once sent back to me a screenshot of our conversation. She fobbed it off as if she meant to reply and hit photo etc. I've often wondered who she was sending it to for a bitch!

feellikeanalien · 10/10/2022 20:47

Not a text as such but I somehow managed to send a friend request to my ex-H when I first started using Facebook.

I hadn't seen him for 22 years and was nosing around to see what he was up to.

He actually accepted my friend request!!😂

TheVolturi · 10/10/2022 20:47

I sent my friend a YouTube link to a video of my celeb crush with a message saying how much I loved him. Except I sent it to dh. 😳😳😳

BLUE TICKS APPEAR FOR ALL PARTICIPANTS IN A GROUP CHAT WHEN A MESSAGE HAS BEEN READ BY ALL THE MEMBERS OF THAT GROUP CHAT.

Anyway OP, I was v v sick during my pregnancy with DD, I was struggling to keep down water and it turned out I had HG (and was a bit delirious I reckon) because I accidentally sent the detailed prescription for the medication into a professional group chat (think solemn boring legal types...) Waaaay before I told anyone I was pregnant. The silence was deafening. I deleted it a few mins later when I realised 🤷🏻‍♀️

Not to worry though cause a few months later another group chat participant accidentally sent a picture of their bare arse into the chat. And then left it for hours before realizing... Apparently the separate private messages from others warning them about the image went unseen because they had muted everyone on their Whatsapp after from their DP...and their mistress. Yikes.

Which Whatsapp are you using because in my many group chats and after being on Whatsapp for years, only my posts have any ticks never mind blue ones.

HubbabubbaT · 10/10/2022 20:51

I once sent our entire costing and manufacturing sheet including profit margins etc instead of a quotation to an entire group of contractors tendering for a job... So they could see every penny we were making on every item they needed. Thankfully it was only a couple of weeks before I was leaving anyway but I still cringe about it now ... Dread to think the long term effect it had on the company!

Ok you seem sure here but I just looked at a chat and my post has blue ticks, everyone else’s has none

EarringsandLipstick · 10/10/2022 20:53

@BatshitBanshee

Amazing how some posters can assert so confidently IN CAPS no less that they are right - when they're totally wrong.

Your quote is incorrect - google it: blue ticks appear for your message, not anyone else's.

lollipoprainbow · 10/10/2022 20:54

My boss saw an email thread where I had called her a witch to another colleague. Mortified doesn't even cover it BlushBlushBlush

I6344 · 10/10/2022 20:54

Not me but my dad accidentally sent a dirty text message to me instead of my mum 🤮🤣

EarringsandLipstick · 10/10/2022 20:54

Here's the correct text, from WhatsApp Help page:

Two blue check marks appear when all participants in the group have read your message.

Key word - 'your'

But let’s take a minute to appreciate the username. If the hat fits 😂

A new colleague was persuaded to everyone on email with “I am Spartacus” on an email that IT had wrongly sent to everyone, about 20,000 employees. Lots of people had already replied all, saying it wasn’t for them & thus was them replaced by many people replying, “no I am Spartacus”. In the end IT had to block thread replies somehow. Was very funny though

bashual · 10/10/2022 20:56

NC for this as outing - I've told this (true) story a few times in RL.

Worked at BBC Sport. Going back about 20 years, BBC sport signed up two well-known sportsmen into their commentary team. It was when the habit of offering well paid commentary jobs to former sportspeople rather than to experienced sports journalists was gaining momentum.

All of us in the dept (hundreds of us) got a message from Head of BBC Sport triumphantly announcing the sign up of these two sportsmen and saying how they'd be commentating for the forthcoming World Cup and what a coup it was for the department over our rivals.

Two minutes later, an email from the Deputy Head of BBC Sport dropped into all of our inboxes - yes, reader, he had hit "reply all" rather than "reply".

It said:
"Well I still think they're both overpaid over-rated tossers".

Followed swiftly by another email
requesting we didn't read the email
He'd just sent Grin.

But of course most of us already had.

somebody2lava · 10/10/2022 20:58

Omg. This has shocked me. What the hell was your daughter thinking?

@Cheeseandlobster

She was an absolute cow bag of a teenager if I'm honest. Another time she changed my predictive text so everytime I said "fine" it replaced it with "Wankbadger". And "good" changed to "so bloody superior" . So somebody would ask how I was and I'd think I was typing I am FINE but actually I would be sending them " I am a wankbadger" or "I am so bloody superior.". It was exhausting. Engineering thought I'd found all words she had changed a new one would pop up. Ended up having to wipe the phone and then get one with finger print recognition. Out of my 4 kids, she was the one that almost drove me to the edge. But she entirely came out of her stupid phase and is currently wrangling her very energetic toddler to bed.... I can't wait for her to get her comeuppance 😂.

Jaaxe · 10/10/2022 21:01

I once sent my work friend a message saying “X is really pissing me off” only I sent it to the colleague who was pissing me off and was sat right behind me. I have never ran out the office so fast

The ticks have gone blue? The ticks only go blue if you’re the one who’s sent the message.

I mean, great thread nonetheless 🤷🏾

Nicely spotted! I missed that.

Amperoblue · 10/10/2022 21:06

My line manager accidentally CC’d me into a message with her line manger suggesting an alternative person for my role that she’d work better with. Followed by a flurry of ignore the last massage type comments

First I heard I was leaving as never had any complaints about my work and thought we all got on well.

Resigned soon after though. Save them the bother.

Doowop1919 · 10/10/2022 21:06

Atmywitsend29 · 10/10/2022 18:10

No they don't 😂 In a group chat the ticks go blue when everyone has read the message

Oh yeah! Ignore my last post 🤣
