Most enjoyable office equipment (yes I know I have no life)

I always thought using a laminator was the most enjoyable of ‘office’ tasks, but I’ve just had a clear out of old paperwork and spent the afternoon shredding and it is very satisfying.

The only other contender I can think of is using a label maker, but I can’t really justify buying one. We used to have one at work and I spent a lovely afternoon labelling anything that stood still for long enough.

I was going to say laminator. Don't even have one where I work now 😪

purpledagger · 08/10/2022 17:49

Guillotine is my favourite, but don't have any reason to use one anymore.

LIZS · 08/10/2022 17:50

Shredder!

CharlotteSt · 08/10/2022 17:50

(I hate the shredder - it gives me misophonia to the point where I want to shred the perpetrator)

cakeorwine · 08/10/2022 17:52

Laminator.

Our workplace used to have one of those old fashioned label makers.

WeeMadArthur1 · 08/10/2022 17:57

Ooh guillotine is a good call, I’ve not used one of those for years. It would have to be the side to side slidey one not the choppy one (IYSWIM).

I really like our electric pencil sharpener, it gives me a great deal of satisfaction.

twilightcafe · 08/10/2022 18:01

I used to like having a go on the franking machine at work back in the 90s.

Buy a label maker. You will find things at home that 'need' labels. Trust me.

OliveHenry · 08/10/2022 18:03

Comb binder all the way, especially an electric one!

Pootles34 · 08/10/2022 18:04

I made them buy me a personalised ink stamp - twas amazing.

Errolwasahero · 08/10/2022 18:07

I agree with all of these, but my favourite has to be the wheelie chair. I have been known to transfer it around the corridors whilst sitting on it 😬

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 08/10/2022 18:09

Label maker wins hands-down. I was upset when our office label maker disappeared during Covid, I think somebody else took it home; but I found it again on a different desk this week and was elated 😃

WeeMadArthur1 · 08/10/2022 18:19

@twilightcafe oh yes I know I will find things that have to be labelled, I just worry for my family - I have a feeling the teen won’t be happy if they go to school accidentally labelled.

@Errolwasahero I’ve gone off the wheelie chair since having to work from home and it destroying my carpet.

I used to work in a cash office and we had bank note counting machine. I loved the sound it made as the notes went through

WeeMadArthur1 · 08/10/2022 18:21

@twilightcafe that reminded me we actually had a franking machine in my last job, only ten or so years ago.

Back in the 90s I had a Saturday job which if we volunteered to do stock taking we were allowed to use the shrink wrap machine, that was amazing.

I do enjoy the laminator but there is something so satisfying about a shredder.
I've got archiving to do soon and I can't wait for all the shredding!

My scanner get get in the bin though. It's an attention seeking prick.

NotMeNoNo · 08/10/2022 18:23

A well aligned wiro-o bound report. Those were the days!

Toddlerteaplease · 08/10/2022 18:24

I love laminating. So satisfying!

WeeMadArthur1 · 08/10/2022 18:25

@AlexCabot definitely with you on the scanner. And printer. Ours recently decides not to print at all, and then a week later randomly prints all the things you’d given up on.

Wiro binding and comb binding, that takes me back.

Ooh staple gun.

Oo we've got one of those self inking stamps. Reminds me of going to the library as a kid.

LucindaJane · 08/10/2022 18:30

@WeeMadArthur1 I used a guillotine at work the other day but it was a very old choppy one. I enjoyed it but was very nervous that I was going to accidentally chop my fingers off.

Great thread. I have found my people. I used to get to use a comb binder at a previous job and loved it. I want to buy myself a label maker and a stamp. I have my own laminator 😊

WeeMadArthur1 · 08/10/2022 18:32

@LucindaJane I have my own laminator too - people are often envious when I tell them (only certain people, others think I’m weird).

Did anyone see this week’s Taskmaster - young people can’t work laminators.
