Does threadworm medication kills worms in the vagina?

fuckingworms · 07/10/2022 21:19

My 6 year old DD has worms. I treated her on Wednesday. Just went to look at her bum while she is asleep and she had one in her vagina!!
I know this can happen, but wondering if the medication is also effective at killing them in that area.
Feel sick with worry.

It'll be fine.

Make sure all bedding/towels/soft toys are hot washed, and treat again in 2 weeks. It's also recommended to treat everyone else in the household.

Just give it time.

Branleuse · 07/10/2022 21:21

Id give her another dose. Ive always had to do ovex twice

fuckingworms · 07/10/2022 21:29

Thanks both. All family were treated on Wednesday and will treat again when it's 2 weeks.

Everything has been washed on 90 degrees after each use since I found them. And hoovered and cleaned excessively.

Does any one know if the medicine kill them all? Or only on the bowels ?
I will go straight to the pharmacy tomorrow to ask but I will be restless all night not knowing 😢😂

Sorry for stupid questions, but do you need prescription for worm medicine? We have couple of cases in the nursery, I'm pretty sure my son will get it too. Just want to be prepared. Are these tablets safe during pregnancy (I'm expecting).
Thank you

I don't think they can survive in vagina (different pH, etc). They might "migrating" around that area.

beonmywaythen · 07/10/2022 21:40

You can go directly to the pharmacist for the medicine but ask them about pregnancy. I know it wasn't recommended during breastfeeding if it could be avoided (I took it anyway and just dried me up for a couple of days but then my milk supply stabilized again)

IWillBeWaxingAnOwl · 07/10/2022 21:44

They don't come from vagina, just rectum, so killing them in the bowels will kill them all

dementedpixie · 07/10/2022 21:45

Don't think ovex is advised during pregnancy

astoundedgoat · 07/10/2022 21:47

I’d say it was just wandering around. They live in the lower intestine (right?) but come out to lay their eggs and then either go back in or die, I forget. Then grubby little fingers that go EVERYWHERE eventually convey these eggs to the mouth and the whole thing starts again.

A work around her vulva has just ventured too far & will die. Their life cycle can only happen in the lower digestive tract, not the vulva or the vagina.

It’s horrendous though. I swear I must have caught them every single time too. 😫

bowlingalleyblues · 07/10/2022 21:50

It kills them all, within a day or two. In the meantime lots of Vaseline around the vaginal opening and anus help stop the itchy/wriggly feeling. Put pants on overnight, wash the area and hands/fingernails with warm soapy water in the morning. Don’t worry - it is gross but the medication is effective.

fuckingworms · 07/10/2022 21:54

Thank you everyone.

I just went back in and there was another one in there 😩I wiped the other one away,
And this one too.

When she first had them I researched it and i read how they can enter the uterus and fallopeon tubes and cause infestations etc. so I'm freaking out!

(And all my reading says no to the medication if pregnant)

The medication doesn't destroy the eggs. Keep retreating and boil washing/extra cleaning. They're awful and do take time to get rid of.

Flopisfatteningbingforchristmas · 07/10/2022 22:02

The medication stops the worms from being able to absorb sugar so the worms starve to death. This takes a few days. The worm in her vagina would have travelled there when it was leaving her body to lay eggs on the outside of the anus. It won’t be living there. Try putting some vasaline around her anus to reduce itching.

Hangingtrousers · 08/10/2022 01:39

Dd had loads in her vagina. It was horrendous. Honestly still have flash backs to that day...
Ovex worked.. its been nearly a year and shes not had then again. Thank fuck

Soulstirring · 08/10/2022 02:06

I put sudocrem around my daughters anus to discourage them and stop itching whilst the tablets worked

fuckingworms · 08/10/2022 07:48

@Hangingtrousers 😩 that's awful but very reassuring. Thank you

Hello, our daughter has worms...she complained about pain in her vagina. We had a close inspection and found a few inside her vagina (and anus). Did you ever get an answer about the worms in the vagina? I know others in the thread have suggested they are just 'wandering' but I've also read that ovex isn't absorbed into the blood and remains in the gut, so the wormies in the vagina wouldn't be killed. Did the vaginal worms resolve with ovex?
Thanks.

Nn156 · 28/06/2023 22:54

I’m wondering exactly this. We’re on night 2 of getting them out of dd’s vagina. Praying the ovex will work but not convinced x

Swansandcustard · 28/06/2023 23:14

Wherever you find the worms, they started off in the bowels. The females come out at night to lay eggs and the wander around waiting to die. Any worms in the bowels when you take the meds die. The ones that come outside die. The issue is the eggs, that’s why 2 treatments and needing to boil everything etc.

EBChobs · 18/07/2023 19:54

Worms!!! Help!! I’m trying so hard to get rid of them. Family of 5. All taken Ovex even my 1 year old twice now and they’re still kicking about!! Done all the changing sheets and towels and cleaning! Constantly reminding my older kids to wash their hands etc.
does anyone have any tips or advice to get rid once and for all please?
TIA a very stressed mama 😥

Beignet · 18/07/2023 20:19

You definitely cannot use ovex whilst breastfeeding, I think pregnancy is ok. I was 2 weeks postpartum with my fourth dc and caught them from the toddler (I blame the manky playdoh from toddler group). The pharmacist said no 😢

You just have to be meticulously clean. Trying to constantly clean whilst looking after young children, a brand new baby, sleep deprived and feeling so uncomfortable with it was horrible. It took two weeks and I never want go through that again. <shudders>

Krisii · 09/08/2023 20:37

Did you get rid of them ?

Krisii · 09/08/2023 20:40

Nn156 · 16/09/2023 07:49

They did go with the ovex, just took a few days. I was just surprised at the amount I could see in the vagina yet so few were around the anus as this has never been the case for my other child.
