If businesses fold because of higher energy costs that affects everything and everyone as well as our own energy bills at home
This could herald the end of capitalism as we know it.
I liked the idea of a nationalized energy company, but this will take years to get up and running and the argument will be that nationalized companies are not always the panacea. At least it's an idea though , but if it works or not is another matter
Even KS admitted this at conference and anything green is always going to be more and electricity pumps and EVs are much more expensive and not necessarily as efficient
It is a huge headache.

They are still in denial

This was sent to Tory MPs a few moments ago from No10/11

It

  • does not signal contrition
  • suggests PM and Chancellor here for "long term reforms"
  • praises the energy price cap policy without noting its been rewritten
  • blames global factors

Never mind needing ethics advisers, this lot need a resident psychotherapist. There’s some serious lack accepting reality going on in those halls.

the80sweregreat · 17/10/2022 13:09

No, because having your plans ripped to shreds is really a good look isn't it?..
Trouble is, Kier Starmer isn't good about the put downs sometimes and misses the mark
You need someone quick witted to make her realize how bad this really is politically and make it stick , he can be a bit too forensic about it.
Still , she must be humiliated :(
It'll be spun as ' doing the right thing ' and they will blame the Labour Party !

NEW: Lindsay Hoyle has granted Keir Starmer an urgent question to follow Jeremy Hunt’s statement

What does govt do? Convention would dictate Truss attends. Does she have her arguments ready?

But if she sends someone junior it looks like she’s going awol in a crisis

Oh to be a fly on the wall in No10. PM summoned to Commons for Lab UQ. But her party is furious. Can she count on enough support to make a decent go of it? Or send someone else and look like she can’t face music? She’d have been there at 3.30 for Hunt Q so can’t say “other plans”

Oh the day is still young!

TokyoSushi · 17/10/2022 13:14

I don't think she'll go today necessarily, but I think she'll be gone by PMQ's on Wednesday. There must be absolute chaos/frenzy behind the scenes trying to sort it all out!

I can't believe she isn't so ashamed and cringing so badly at the whole damn thing that she doesn't just resign, never to show her face again!

tobee · 17/10/2022 13:23

Dan Hodges says he's been told to expect cabinet resignations in next 48 hours fwiw

the80sweregreat · 17/10/2022 13:24

Who will resign! .. ?
At least her new chancellor and Theresa Coffey will stay on!!

tobee · 17/10/2022 13:42

Also ditch "working in lock step"
And supply side, uprating etc etc

Apparently Hunt and Truss are working in lock step now. That didn't go so well for Kwarteng when he & Truss were working in lock step. However, I'd guess Truss would be more in peril being in lock step with Hunt this time.

mibbelucieachwell · 17/10/2022 13:50

Penny Mordaunt is going to answer the urgent Q this afternoon according to the beeb.

When she does dare to step into HoC she'll look even worse.

Meanwhile, NS is telling us her plan for an independent Scotland.

tobee · 17/10/2022 13:53

Maybe Truss wont be there for the chancellor statement

Cornettoninja · 17/10/2022 13:54

I wouldn’t have said this morning that Liz would be going but I’m not so sure now. There’s an odd atmosphere about.

If she’s staying she shouldn’t be handing this off to PM. It’s cowardly and weak.

Cornettoninja · 17/10/2022 13:54

Maybe she’s booking a flight to Ukraine.

Presumably Moggy will resign because he couldn't work for another Prime Minister after Boris, and he is on the record as saying that if the PM changes in the middle of a parliament there should be a general election.

I’m really surprised that isn’t being used more. Maybe it’s time to remind Twitter.

I don’t recognise most of your list!

Barnard Castle?! Boris was in intensive care at the time
free holidays?!
Pincher has worked in government for nearly a decade before Boris arrived
Its not against the law to have gold wallpaper

Jeez clutching at straws!
Mark my words Boris coming back - watch this space

That you don't recognise most of the list of scandals @Kissingfrogs25 that seemed to haunt Boris Johnson's time as Prime Minister perhaps says more about you, than anything else.

Are you saying that it is acceptable for the Prime Minister to appoint someone who was a known sexual predator to a senior position responsible for MPs welfare?
