Yes it’ll be Lib Dem for me too. Safe Tory Hampshire seat and the Libs have a much stronger vote than Labour here.

I do also hope for some sort of cross party alliance, or at least a policy of cooperation with the goal of keeping the Tories out.

tobee · 15/10/2022 15:03

3 way seat here I think! Confused

I feel that Badenoch and Braverman would be exposed as limited if they were ever leaders at GE time. I'm sure as I can be that Truss wouldn't have been elected PM if she'd been relying on a GE to become PM at any time. Not just in this situation.

Theskyisfullofbirds · 15/10/2022 15:22

Lib Dem for me too in what is a traditionally Tory seat that has previously once voted in a Lib Dem MP. It’s my only way of protesting. Agree with other comments though, the number of people locally who are still quite vocally supporting this shower is upsetting and worrying.

Oh yes, my siblings don't want that 'kneeler ' in charge! He buys donkey Sanctuary's , the rascal
Plus Liz needs a chance
It's the media that have it in for her
They want to rejoin the EU
That will wreck the economy
.. etc etc

tobee · 15/10/2022 16:14

She's had it

I'm a safe Tory Hampshire seat too.

Pretty sure Labour are next best here but will definitely check before voting!

Although my MP is definitely itching to be PM before then 🫣🤣

"There are reports that as many as 100 letters expressing no confidence in Truss have been submitted to the 1922 Committee, which some backbenchers believe would give Brady a mandate to change the rules and get rid of the year’s grace a new prime minister usually has before a leadership challenge can be launched. MPs who know Brady well believe that if the mood continues to sour, he would feel compelled to tell Truss to stand down or face defeat in a vote. If he fails to act then Labour is flirting with tabling its own confidence vote in parliament."

Only 100?!
Article makes it plain Truss & Kwarteng went through their budget together " line by line" and agreed it so attempts to rewrite history as Kwarteng's budget are nonsense.
Javid turned Chancellor down. He was contacted on Thursday!
Hunt doesn't have a large pool of supporter to draw from. They are currently tethered together simply to keep the party in power and their jobs.

All in all it's not if Truss is going, it is all about when. They need a unifying candidate and don't have one.

Whilst it is tempting to enjoy the schadenfreude none of this is good for the country. It really is a huge destabilising mess.

I don’t know if I’m behind the times but the petition to call a general election has been given a date to be debated - 17th October.

LD here too. It probably won't work in our safe Tory seat that there was talk of parachuting Johnson into...but, hey, you never know!

Roussette · 15/10/2022 20:02

Also...what makes my blood boil is.. Kwarteng gets £17k severance pay for being in the post for just a month. Confirmed by Chris Bryant, chair of Standards and Privileges Committee.

Nice work if you can get it 😡

His dealer will be pleased.

According to the link posted earlier I need to vote Labour. My pleasure.

Maybe Electoral Calculus' model is wonky, but they seem to be suggesting that Royal Tunbridge will be Labour at the next General Election. You may be surprised if you put your location in.

Does that mean that disgusted is disgusted with the Tories?

Yes, thanks.

Roussette · 15/10/2022 20:20

Gosh. It has to be wonky surely. It comes up as a Con Hold for my postcode (30 years same Tory MP) but Labour as best chance over LD. ??? Labour better field a good candidate, the one in 2019 was useless

itsgettingweird · 15/10/2022 20:21

The tactical voting link above says it's too close to call for LD or Labour here.

Slight difference with LF 14% and Labour 18%.

Either one getting in will send Braverman into a spin worthy of being classified a tornado Grin

I'd prefer Labour myself but whatever gets her out is fine by me Wink

It is almost as though the Tories are so far behind that tactical voting might be irrelevant and we can just pick who of Labour or Lib Dem we like most.

Libdem won’t cut it here so Labour it is.

borntobequiet · 15/10/2022 20:31

I’m quite surprised that Labour are predicted to do well here, but happy to vote that way to get the complacent, self serving, mealy mouthed Tory out. She’s done nothing but parrot the party line in all correspondence. I detest her and her vile associates.

Downnotdown · 15/10/2022 20:48

I hope if anything good can come from this shit-show it's that they seriously overhaul the way that party leaders are elected.

The basic fact that Truss was elected by such a tiny fraction of the population and therefore became PM is definitely not democracy in my eyes.

the80sweregreat · 15/10/2022 20:53

If this was a left wing party doing this shit the right wing press would he scathing.
It's so unfair that they get a pass to ruin everything and people still believe in them.
Austerity is such a depressing thought : it's just wrong on so many levels.
They have buggered it all up and carry on as if it's all someone else fault
In any other job they would all be fired

verdantverdure · 15/10/2022 22:08

The Conservative Party can't seriously think that we'll accept cuts to public services because they've been in power for 12 years so everything has gone to pot?

TokyoSushi · 15/10/2022 22:51

Hurrah! We're predicted a Labour gain from Conservative with a pretty big landslide! We are what's described as a 'super marginal' big I don't think there will be any doubt this time!
