The pair of them are behaving like toddlers who have eaten chocolate cake without permission.

Covered in crumbs, chocolate smears all over their face and point blank denying they ate it.

We've gone from teenage behaviour- throwing parties when the parents are out, damaging the furniture and denying they had done anything, to toddlers in government.

They really are a very bad joke who seem determined to destroy Britain. How much longer can we put up with this shit show?

DuncinToffee · 14/10/2022 09:29

What would happen if Truss were to resign?

If they both go then it'll be another leadership battle ? I don't think anyone has the appetite for this !

TokyoSushi · 14/10/2022 09:36

Surely it would have to be a GE @DuncinToffee ? Hopefully anyway!

I often wonder why they don't just resign, they definitely don't need the money. Why don't they think, look, I'm hideous at this and it's far too stressful, I'll just give up!

TokyoSushi · 14/10/2022 09:37

I mean honestly, from a simply human perspective, she must be completely stressed out and feel completely sick, I know I would!

the80sweregreat · 14/10/2022 09:40

I don't feel sorry for any of them really.
Maybe from a ' why didn't the ones voting for me realize my big tax cutting plan wouldn't work ! '
But I think that many who did vote for her only did it as it was a case of ' anyone but backstabbing Rishi '
The economy or her vision for it probably wasn't that important to them at that time.

DuncinToffee · 14/10/2022 09:43

You would hope for a GE but I can't see the Tories agreeing to it with the way the polls look but maybe they will be forced into it. Another leadership battle would just be horrendous.

I assume they can't just replace Truss?

I really have no idea what the process is.

You are making the mistake of thinking they operate like decent people. Power is everything to them.

If Liz goes, which I think she will, she can then claim up to £115,000 a year for life. Nice little earner for a few weeks in office and crashing the economy.

TokyoSushi · 14/10/2022 09:45

Well yes that's true @ClaudineClare they probably don't think like I do!

DuncinToffee · 14/10/2022 09:45

Truss has been in this government for 12 years, she has done too much damage to get any sympathy from me.

As I understand it the Tory rules are that whilst the 1922 chairman might have the letters of no confidence there won't be a vote for the 1st year of a leaders time.

DuncinToffee · 14/10/2022 10:13

It turns the whole selection and voting process into a joke.
Hey Tory members, you voted unwisely, now try again.

Mildly amused that Kwarteng's plane is currently no 1 on Flightradar.

the80sweregreat · 14/10/2022 10:30

Where is KK flying back from ?
Heathrow to Westminster isn't too far of he lands here

DuncinToffee · 14/10/2022 10:39

Washington DC

He was there for for meetings with the G20 and IMF (he missed the IMF ine for some reason)

the80sweregreat · 14/10/2022 10:43

I've not got the flight radar app , but I had a look at it and all those planes in yellow made me feel a bit sick! All heading for the UK by the looks of it.

StarryGazeyEyes · 14/10/2022 10:44

Just coming in to land at Heathrow - bet he can't wait!

the80sweregreat · 14/10/2022 10:49

It lands soon at terminal five
Sky is filming it.

the80sweregreat · 14/10/2022 10:51

It's landed !!
How long to get to Westminster?
It can't be that far if the roads are not too bad this morning

EXCLUSIVE:

Liz Truss and Kwasi Kwarteng to announce mini-budget u-turn today

They are meeting shortly after chancellor flies back from Washington

Plans to freeze corporation tax will be reversed - it will rise next year

PM statement expected later

OP posts:
the80sweregreat · 14/10/2022 10:58

Yes. He'll be bundled off first no doubt
Whisk past the passport controls and off he goes to his fate.

the80sweregreat · 14/10/2022 10:59

So will a u turn work ?
Put them on a firmer footing ?

DuncinToffee · 14/10/2022 11:05

It will buy them some time but it will still leave them with a large deficit.

To repeat @TheIFS: “Even reversing all of the permanent tax cuts in Mr Kwarteng’s ‘mini-Budget’ would not be enough”
