Cars parked in parking suspension - what can I do?

We are having work done to the exterior of our house/roof. As it’s a tall building, we need a cherry picker. We applied to the council to have permission to have one, as we would need a parking suspension in place for a day. We waited a month for this.

There were no cars in the parking suspension this morning. I was watching it from my window, ready to run out to tell people if they hadn’t noticed the giant yellow signs or bollards.

I went to shower and came back 20 mins later. Someone had moved the bollards and parked three cars in the suspended area !!!

What the hell am I supposed to do? The cherry picker is due soon and there is now no where for it to go.

Start knocking on doors'

Jessofthedurbervilles · 06/10/2022 08:52

I have no idea whose cars they are. We live 5 mins from a commuter train station, so people often park here and get the train into the city for work. So the people are probably long gone!

Call the council ? People are knobs

Brealinr · 06/10/2022 08:54

Call the council they may alert parking attendants to issue a fine

LovedFedAndNoonesDead · 06/10/2022 08:54

Are you in an area where parking is at a premium (like close to railway station, university/school or town centre?) and so people are taking their chances and likely gone for the day?

I would get on to the local council as they organised the suspension and can perhaps arrange for the cars to be towed away due to the parking suspension - though this will all depend on the wording of the suspension and the council’s will to enforce it!!

LizTrussIsACylon · 06/10/2022 08:57

Can you get some strong friends to bump the cars? Grin

In all seriousness I'd be fuming and be tempted to egg their cars! Hope you get it sorted!

Kaftankween · 06/10/2022 08:58

Yes call the council. We had people park in our suspended area and the council were there pretty quickly and towed them away. It was quite enjoyable!

Nitgel · 06/10/2022 08:58

Perhaps the cars belong to the cherry picker operator ?? Clutching straws

eurochick · 06/10/2022 08:59

Call the council. They should be able to tow them.

Fattybumbah · 06/10/2022 08:59

i had this happen on moving day - called the council and they came and towed the car 😁

girlmom21 · 06/10/2022 09:01

Call the council and get them towed.

littlefireseverywhere · 06/10/2022 09:06

Agree with above, how frustrating for you! One obviously moved the bollards and the others followed suit.

GretaGip · 06/10/2022 09:09

If you manage to get them towed, MN rules are a live feed of you observing the commuters returning to the empty spaces.

Mingot · 06/10/2022 09:10

Phone the council asap

Hear hear on the parking thread!

I loved the thread regarding cars parking on a road that was being re-surfaced or lines painted. The council had been advertising the fact that the road was not to be parked on but people had still left their cars there.
The OP did brilliant diagrams & included photos of the offending cars being towed away! It's in the Classics section.

QuietlyAppalled · 06/10/2022 09:22

Whenever there is a parking suspension in our London street (all the time😩) the parking guys are around bang on 9am to book anyone who's stayed in the suspended bays. Like shooting fish in a barrel for them in terms of meeting their quotas, I suppose.

Soubriquet · 06/10/2022 09:31

I agree with calling the council. They are likely to be towed away

Imagine how entitled you must be to move bollards to park though.

I don’t blame the second and 3rd car as much

Was that the thread where the road was getting new tarmac and cars were being towed one after another?
That was a great thread.

Eselch · 06/10/2022 09:44

What’s a parking suspension area? I need photos!

Fedupwithmondays · 06/10/2022 09:45

They put up big yellow signs to tell you there's no parking allowed on x road at x time on x dates.

Youngatheart00 · 06/10/2022 09:47

Invested…….

pippinsleftleg · 06/10/2022 09:47

Live updates please, with photos!

lannistunut · 06/10/2022 09:48

Oh my god, that is so stressful - but WHY did you go for a shower???

All you can do is phone the council and hope they will enforce for you.
