How long are you out the house for?

I leave at 7.30 and get home at 6pm Monday to Friday. It's so relentless.

Anyone else fee the same or anyone else enjoy it? Anyone do less and still feel it's relentless! Not sure if it the monotony. I dcs as can't have them and I'm 42. Next 18 years will be like this?

Stressful job on a middle (good) income.

That sounds fairly standard for office work (if anything home by 6 is pretty good).

Can you wfh a few days a week? I find that makes such a difference

QuebecBagnet · 04/10/2022 21:07

Depends. I’m normally sat at my desk just before 7:30 am. I do tend to leave by 5pm often 4pm though.

trillionnairenot · 04/10/2022 21:07

Plenty of hybrid jobs around. I go into the office 1 day a week.

BackT · 04/10/2022 21:09

Leave at 8.30. Home by 5.45.

Sacrificed potential earnings for the short commute.

DeanStockwelll · 04/10/2022 21:11

I leave home at 4.45am normally home by 6pm ish but twice a month like today I don't get home till 7pm .
I will be back up at 4am .I hate this part of my job !

mrsjimhopper · 04/10/2022 21:15

@DeanStockwelll 5 days a week Confused when do you do anything.

JulesCobb · 04/10/2022 21:16

I leave at 7.15 and get home after 6. Today i got home at 8.30 and im exhausted.

woff45 · 04/10/2022 21:18

That was my life for years, WFH has transformed my life, I couldn't go back to that now.

Nope , not 5 days a week

6 ! Or least it has been for the last 7 weeks . I am realllllly hoping we can get some Sunday staff so I can go back to 'just' 5 days

We desperately need more staff but no bugger is turning up gor the interviews 🙄

Ted27 · 04/10/2022 21:24

whether the next 18 years will be the same is entirely up to you.
if you have no dependents what keeps you in the job?

I took redundancy when I was 40, no dependents but still had a morgage and had 2 years ‘out’ . I temped for a bit, went travelling for 6 months, did an MA.

Reevaluate your life - what do you want your life to be? If you arent happy then change it.
I know its an easy thing to say and a difficult thing to do but I have done it once before, and am doing it again now.
Changing your life won’t happen over night but its really up to you to make it want you want it to be.

lannistunut · 04/10/2022 21:27

How long is your commute? The best thing I did was move back into town, cutting commute.

RewildingAmbridge · 04/10/2022 21:29

Leave 8:45/9ish get home at 9:30/9:45pm one day per week and between 5:45/6:15 the other days, one day off in the week. Compressed full time hours over 4 days. My office is less than two miles away

2pinkginsplease · 04/10/2022 21:30

I’ve just changed jobs and work less hours for £2000 more pay a year.

I used to work 40hrs and felt like you do, I now work 30 hrs and it’s perfect. Life feels easier, happier and less stressful,

2pinkginsplease · 04/10/2022 21:31

Meant to say I’m out the house at 11.25 and home at 6.30

LadyHelenaJustina · 04/10/2022 21:33

When I was commuting I’d be out by 5.45 and back at 9: I did that three days a week and worked locally for the other two. These days I won’t take any job that requires more than a 20 minute journey. I’ve mainly worked from home for the last 10 years, which has made for a much better quality of life.

cbatopainttheshed · 04/10/2022 21:35

Leave 6.15am, usually home about 6.30pm when working day shifts, on afternoon shifts leave 12.15pm get home around midnight. Stressful job. Constantly feel tired.

DeanStockwelll · 04/10/2022 21:36

I am a area manager for 5 sites it takes me 45 minutes to an hour and a half to get to the site depending on which direction I direction I have to travel first and which one I need to be at first I don't drive (and before you will start trying to learn how to drive I can't do medical condition ) so I have to rely on public transport if anybody is off sick on holiday I have to cover and unfortunately we've had two people leave and one person on long-term sickness at the moment

Numbat2022 · 04/10/2022 21:37

Pre-Covid I left at 8am and got home at 7ish four days a week (one day wfh). I was permanently exhausted and couldn't possibly go back to it. I now commute once a week at most, often less.

ladywithnomanors · 04/10/2022 21:40

I’m out of the house for 6 30am and get home at 8pm on a good day but can be 9pm. I only work 3 days a week though .

MummyInTheNecropolis · 04/10/2022 21:47

I leave at 6.50am and get home at 6ish. I’m a teacher and have a 30-40 minute commute. Next week I have 2 nights of parents evenings so won’t be home until 8 Monday and Tuesday 😩

emmathedilemma · 04/10/2022 21:49

I aim to be at my desk between 8:30-9am and leave no later than 5:15. Commute depends on the traffic but typically less than 30minutes. I tend to do that 3 days a week and go to the gym after work so get home about 7-7:30pm. Then it’s literally a quick dinner, make lunch for the next day, tidy round, a bit of TV and bed! It does feel like a bit of a treadmill at times. The days i work from home I tend to be at my desk longer hours but do things like laundry and hang that up during the day.

HangryFeminist · 04/10/2022 21:50

Leave home 5:45am and normally back between 5 and 5:30pm. Commute is 3 hr round trip. It’s tiring.

BamBamBilla · 04/10/2022 21:52

About 45 minutes at lunchtime when I go out for a walk.

NoWordForFluffy · 04/10/2022 21:52

Pre-Covid (so I was your age), I left at 6.45 and got back at about 6.20, 5 days a week. It was a killer.

I now WFH, and I'm far, far happier.

popo50 · 04/10/2022 22:00

I luckily only have a 1mile commute and work shifts of a set length of either 9 or 10hours.

Early I leave at 0630 and home by 1630
Lates I leave at 1330 and home by 0030
Nights I leave at 2130 and home by 0730

I work 6 shifts then get 3 days off. I'm ready for days off when they come around.
