How long are you out the house for?

I leave at 7.30 and get home at 6pm Monday to Friday. It's so relentless.

Anyone else fee the same or anyone else enjoy it? Anyone do less and still feel it's relentless! Not sure if it the monotony. I dcs as can't have them and I'm 42. Next 18 years will be like this?

Stressful job on a middle (good) income.

That was my life for years, WFH has transformed my life, I couldn't go back to that now.

Same. I work part time and from home. I would absolutely hate going back to 5 days a week in an office.

worriedatthistime · 04/10/2022 22:08

I leave around 8 am and back at 5.30 -6pm and have dc so then dinner to do , house to tidy , etc etc
It is relentless and so wish i could afford to do a 4 day week like i used to

Confusedabout · 04/10/2022 22:11

Out at 6.30am and back between 5 and 6 depending on workload. Exhausted!

belimoo · 04/10/2022 22:19

I honestly don't know how everyone does these commutes, especially if dc are involved. I do have health issues though so not in the best place to judge.

I used to commute more but felt exhausted all the time. I now WFH most of the time and it has made a hugely positive impact on my life and I can't imagine coping with a 'normal' work set up again.

Cuddlywuddlies · 04/10/2022 22:25

Leave home at 7:30, home for 5:00 (4:00 on a Friday) but I have flexi time so I can change it up if I like as long as I’m in fir 9:00

FourChimneys · 04/10/2022 22:25

I used to leave about 7.30 am, back somewhere between 6.00 pm and 10 pm. It was so exhausting.

Now I run my own business and am mostly at home for that. I don't miss my commute at all.

Rockingcloggs · 04/10/2022 22:26

Leave at 8am home by 5.15 however my husband leaves at 4.30am home by 6.30pm depending on where in the country he is and what his job for the day involves.

RosesAndHellebores · 04/10/2022 22:28

Out at about 7.30, home at about 8.30. 25 minute commute. Not sure how much longer I can keep it up but I am over 60. I have loved work but feel the pace is getting beyond me.

Am quite senior if that helps to explain the hours.

ButteryNuts · 04/10/2022 22:31

11 Hours Sunday.
12 hours Monday - Thursday

mrsfollowill · 04/10/2022 22:31

These commutes/timings are brutal! When I was office based left the house 7.55am (got to work for 8.20) and left at 16.55 (home for 17.30) - have WFH for last 2.5 yrs so normally work 8.20- 17.30 ish these days. It's not right work takes up so much time of the day for anyone. Get my job done but also have time to shove a wash load on and dinner in the oven most days. I have flexi working so can take 2 hrs for lunch if I want to- not that I have chance to do that v often but it's possible in theory!

HighlandPony · 04/10/2022 22:34

I leave about 10 ish and I’m back in between half 2 and half 4. Back out again doing horses after tea time, last walk of the dogs after that. I’m not even working just now as I’m on maternity but I hate being stuck indoors. Get cabin fever.

speakout · 04/10/2022 22:35

I am usually out of my home for two hours a day- and one of those hours is a yoga class.

addictedtotheflats · 04/10/2022 22:39

I work shifts and days I leave the house at 06.45 and get home at 21:00. Nights I leave at 19:30 and home 08:15, 3 or 4 days a week. Exhausted on my days off!

That's the worst thing about WFH for me. I struggle to get out some days because I'm busy and I'm bored with walks near my house, whereas when I worked primarily in the office in London there were lots of interesting walks to do and the commute forced me to be active. I'm much, much less active now and have gained weight because of it - my daily steps have gone from around 8k on an average day to maybe 3k, and that's if I get out for a walk.

Wfh is brilliant for me on so many levels, and I think if I'd tried to do the commute with a small child at home (born 2019) I would have had to leave my job and work locally. But it's definitely negatively affected my health and I can't seem to replicate the old routine because of childcare.

Bbq1 · 05/10/2022 07:33

8.10 I leave and back home :
Mon - 5pm
Tue- 4.15pm
Weds - 5pm
Thurs - 3.45
Fri - 3.45
Hours are pretty good.

Decafflatteplease · 05/10/2022 08:30

I'm a SAHM but DH leaves at 8 and is back at 6. . Eventually I'd like to work (part time).but don't know how we would fit in everything I do. Also have severely disabled DC which complicates things as I'm often at appointments/meetings/ hospital.

ilovebagpuss · 05/10/2022 09:15

I reduced hours to be at home more for secondary age kids. Less money but it's a less stressful week.
Some WFH and the occasional commute but I'm only 30-40 mins from each site.
I start at 9.30 and finish at 2.30 on 3 days and do 2 days 9-5.
Longest I could be out of the house is 8.30-6
but it's rare so manageable.
Your week does sound a slog and if you can afford it I would be asking if it's possible to reduce hours a bit or WFH 2 days a week.

BBBBMushroom · 05/10/2022 09:35

I had that life for many years.

I was just very well organised, had a partner who really did and still does pull their weight and also had a cleaner.

Apart from books add dvds I have never bought anything but the bare essentials. I’m currently getting rid of dozens of them. I’m not quite old enough for a Swedish Death clean but it kinda feels like that.
