I've never really looked at the fresh bakery in our local store. If you have, apart from bread and rolls could you possibly tell me what else they bake fresh in store?

Thanks.

Try Co-op their bakery is marvelous. Croissant and other Danish pastries.
Fruit pies, 4 different types of donuts, cookies all baked fresh in store.

HRTQueen · 04/10/2022 12:07

I was going to suggest Co-op too

I think the best fresh bakery in supermarkets (Morrison’s also very good). The olive bread is really really good

queenofarles · 04/10/2022 12:22

Out of all the supermarket bakeries I’ve tried M&S bakery is the best, much nicer and far more fresher than Waitrose ,
I love their fresh lemon tart , croissants are really good, And their donuts are so delicious!

Floydthebarber · 04/10/2022 12:27

M&S do really good chocolate twists and they do a nice white bread called a pave or boule - can't remember but its square and rustic looking.

I agree with pps about the Co-Op. Their sourdough bread and three cheese bread are eally good. Obviously not 'artisan bakery' quality but for a supermarket I can walk too its great.

Tesco sourdough and rye as well, pleasingly cheap and tasty.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 04/10/2022 12:30

Their sourdough is amazing, but I’ve forbidden myself to have it. After I lost a tooth eating it.

Interested to know how you’ve made that assumption? I wanted to know if they did more than bread. I’ve been a member here for about 16 years now under various names. Mexican House Thief, Brian from Hill, Penis beaker etc. I work in a yard for a construction company doing the admin.

I’ve got a family lunch at the weekend and I was hoping to get some fresh bakery bits. That is all.

thanks to everyone who has responded. I don’t have a co-op near me. Marks and Spencer is one direction, Sainbsurys is another but our local Sainsburys often buy in previously frozen bakery bits and only do freshly baked bread.

No apologies. Usually its 'I need a bra and only Marks will do' or questions about their leggings or their cakes or their whatever....

Question for you though.. what are 'bits' ??

ChocChipOwl · 04/10/2022 14:06

@Aggypanthus I mean who knows? Could you maybe take a guess at what 'bits' might be? After all, you seem to fancy yourself as some sort of sleuth

Aggypanthus · 04/10/2022 14:07

Sleuth eh you say? What fun!

AriettyHomily · 04/10/2022 14:25

Cheese scones

MrsDoyle351 · 04/10/2022 14:29

This thread is doing me no favours as I’m longing for a cream scone. 😭😭

Brendabigbaps · 04/10/2022 14:30

boredOf · 04/10/2022 14:32

Hello from years ago Smile

boredOf · 04/10/2022 14:32

And now I want m&s fresh baked cookies 😂

Evasmissingletter · 04/10/2022 14:35

Palmiers, doughnuts, croissants, , pastries etc

dontcallmelen · 04/10/2022 14:38

Yy the pave bread, the scones are really as well.

Rapidtango · 04/10/2022 14:42

The individual lemon muffins in the little pink boxes are lovely and one of the reasons I'm a heifer. Pastel del nata, individual lemon tarts, scones (fruit and cheese).

Thestoppedfan · 04/10/2022 14:44

They do the best shortbread with milk chocolate chunks in. Even better when timed right and they are slightly warm.

TheDouglasChater · 04/10/2022 14:47

Cheese pretzels 🥨

Blueberrycreampie · 04/10/2022 14:55

Our local one is food only with a small bakery on the premises. I love the rye bread - it is fab sliced thinly with smoked salmon, or just butter! There is also a small freezer next to the fresh bakery with garlic baguettes made fresh with the baguettes from the bakery and frozen. They are 👍.

ThrowAwayOne · 04/10/2022 14:56

Their boule is my favourite bakery item ever. Paired with their little tub of egg mayo with salt and pepper.

I need it now.

Also their cookie and cream yumnuts are a huge favourite in our house.

shumway · 04/10/2022 14:59

My dad used to work for m&s and would bring all the unsold bakery stuff home every evening. It was all lovely.

quicklybeendrivenmad · 04/10/2022 15:02

I love the baguettes make brilliant prawn or tuna crunch sandwiches with them. Just out of interest does the mexican house thief still live next door?

CakeEatersRUs · 04/10/2022 15:04

Sourdough bread and Apricot Danish are my favourites of all time.

They also do the best Jam doughnuts
