British Gas refund only £58? (£400 rebate)

Anyone had their refund for the £400 rebate yet? I was told I'd be getting £67 a month until March but I've only been given £58. Just wondering what others got?

Ours hasn’t come though yet but I’m sure it also depended on the amount your direct debit was as to how much was going back into your bank account.

woff45 · 04/10/2022 10:57

Sorry it's £53 not £58. We are in credit and paying the recommended DD amount they switched us to last month (which was only £2 more as I had already adjusted the DD to what I thought we should be paying)

I thought it was coming off the bill rather than a refund? My account isn't showing anything yet, but my billing date is near the end of the month.

£67 credit applied to E.ON electricity bill for October (no gas).

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 04/10/2022 11:05

Bulb have applied the first £66 credit to my account on the 1st Oct.

Amazongirl9 · 04/10/2022 11:07

Mine appears to have gone up because on the new cap and then that amount had been reduced by £67 a month. EON - Next. So in effect it’s just a few pounds less than it was before . I’m also in credit.

GottaGetOutofDairy · 04/10/2022 11:09

I couldn't say: the Shell website has had a queue to even look at your account thats over 20 mins long and has been that way every time I've checked recently.

British Gas are doing it as refunds on DD, so the DD is the same.

As far as I understand the £400 will be given at around £66/month via everyone's Electricity account, as many people don't have gas.

woff45 · 04/10/2022 11:11

It's really annoying as there is no audit trail for it on my account. Doesn't come up in payments, or on my bill, there is no transparency so I can't work out where the £53 has come from.

Depends who you're with. British Gas are taking your normal DD then putting (supposedly) £66/&67 on your bank account.

UNLESS @woff45 your DD is for less then they'll 'refund' you the amount of your DD and the balance will be credited to your account.

it's all a bit messy, too man variables.

I think it would have been better to just credit everyone's account each month.

StillNotWarm · 04/10/2022 11:19

How much is your dd usually?
And have you paid yet for October?

LittleOwl153 · 04/10/2022 11:25

Are you on a fixed tariff? If you are has this confused things? Or does your billing cycle not coinside with the dates of the refund scheme- eg have you got a bill date of 22nd of the month, so its been partially applied for the bit from 1st October onwards...

My email from Octopus said they were required by law to reduced the dd by the £67 so I guess they have to do it somehow!

woff45 · 04/10/2022 11:29

Fixed tariff (not much less than the standard variable), I pay by DD first of the month so October has been paid (normal amount). Don't want to bother them over £14 but equally want to be assured the rest of the months will be correct!

And I currently have a £2.75 credit on my account I could refund to myself, so not in debit to turn and only had my DD review last week which says I'm on track to pay the correct amount.

Just checked mine £67 off my direct debit with Octopus

stopringingme · 04/10/2022 11:36

EDF are refunding the money to the bank account that you pay your DD from £66 for two months then £67 for the remaining four - only if you are on a budget monthly DD. So our DD will stay the same but we get money back into our bank account.

If you pay each bill fully it will come off the bill, pre-payment meters are getting a voucher and pay as you go get a credit on their smart pay as you go meter - this is how EDF are giving the £400 to it's customers.

I'm also with EDF and pay DD and getting a refund back in my account.

@stopringingme can I ask what your daily standing charge is for gas an electric with EDF, mine is still above the price cap.

stopringingme · 04/10/2022 11:52

@RoseDog I have just looked at the email they sent last week and the standing charge is 45.76 (pence per day) and the unit rate pence per KWH is 33.02 . This is from the 1st October.

Previously they were standing charge 44.75 and 27.63 unit rate.

stopringingme · 04/10/2022 11:53

@RoseDog Sorry should have said we only have electric from EDF as we do not have mains gas where we live.

Fiddledeedeeee · 04/10/2022 11:54

My BG refund hasn’t come through yet but I checked the email which said to expect it ‘a few days after’ the DD is taken, which was only yesterday.
What has annoyed me is that despite me submitting meter readings via the app and email on 30th sept (and regularly before that), they have added their own estimates on 1st October which are far higher! Getting through to them to rectify is impossible!!

Dreamstate · 04/10/2022 11:58

I find this really annoying putting into bank account, used to be EDF would leave any credit on account and you could request a refund now they just give it back. I built up credit on my account deliberately over summer and they changed it so they sent it back to my bank account after my sept bill and I didn't realise and spent the money. ARGHHHHHH

Now means I have to up my DD to include extra £66.

sanitygirl · 04/10/2022 12:04

Looks like Shell have applied it as a credit to my account

Floralnomad · 04/10/2022 12:10

If your DD is £53 for your bill then that is what BG will give you back and the other £14 ( to make it up to £67 ) will be credited to your energy account . I can’t see what’s difficult to follow , BG are not going to give you £67 if you only pay them £53 . If of course you pay more than £67 and they’ve only given you £53 call them and find out why as obviously their system hasn’t worked .

fitflopqueen · 04/10/2022 12:27

With Shell - £66 went into account yesterday, currently in credit ready for the rise.
