British Gas refund only £58? (£400 rebate)

Anyone had their refund for the £400 rebate yet? I was told I'd be getting £67 a month until March but I've only been given £58. Just wondering what others got?

@Floralnomad I'm not the one struggling to follow, who said my DD is £53? It's £200. I got the generic email that said I'd be getting £67 in my bank account a few days after my DD goes out in Oct, £200 was taken out 3/10 (due to the weekend, expected amount) I've had £53 put back in my account today.

@woff45

if they did your DD review last week, could this be a refund from that? Were you in credit at your review.

As another pp said, the BG email said the refund would take a few days to hit after the DD was taken.

useruse · 04/10/2022 13:45

Maybe give it a week or two and see if any more money appears in your account as that may have been a different refund as PP says, or you will spend forever on the phone waiting and it may appear in the meantime

@BertiesShoes I've never had an automatic refund before, will be lovely if it is, if not a bit annoying as I deliberately kept my DD slightly higher. So my PDF bill dated last week says I'm in credit £128.91, but when I log in to get a refund it says I'm £2.75 in credit...none of the figures make sense to me! But maybe it is separate to the £67.

Either way won't be contacting them (yet), have wanted a gas smart meter for the last year but haven't contacted them since all this kicked off due to not having the appetite to wait on hold, was just hoping others might have a clue, I'm really anal about our finances 😂

I couldn't say: the Shell website has had a queue to even look at your account thats over 20 mins long and has been that way every time I've checked recently.

I'm with Shell, my credit balance went up by £67 on 1st Oct, my billing date isn't until the 8th so I expect to see the credit on that statement

woff45 · 04/10/2022 14:16

Ok so in the app I can finally see evidence of the payment and it's described as an outgoing payment and is dated 29/9 so I'm assuming it must be an automatic refund and not related to the £67 if before October. Thanks to all that replied!

Don't want to bother them over £14 but equally want to be assured the rest of the months will be correct!

I’d be willing to bet they would bother you, if you paid them £14 less!

There might be a link in your account for a gas smart meter where you can book a date, there is on mine, in fact I had one booked but cancelled it as I am not happy about BG customer service at the moment in case anything doesn't work properly and I can't contact them easily, I'm not that happy with my electric one that I can't see anything from it on the website, contacting them is a nightmare though

i can't help with the refund as it comes out of DH bank and I don't think we have paid this months DD yet, not sure of the date of it

TheRookie · 04/10/2022 14:28

@hanleys I'm with Scottish power and haven't had a single thing from them regarding this! Have they just credited your account?

My BG refund hasn’t come through yet but I checked the email which said to expect it ‘a few days after’ the DD is taken, which was only yesterday.
What has annoyed me is that despite me submitting meter readings via the app and email on 30th sept (and regularly before that), they have added their own estimates on 1st October which are far higher! Getting through to them to rectify is impossible!!

If they've used higher estimates that is a good thing as you will be paying for the extra units (that you haven't yet used) at the pre October and therefore lower rate.

Picklesbaby · 04/10/2022 14:43

We’re in credit about £250 after just claiming £300 back , our direct debit is normally £155 , but they took £90 this morning. Eon next just for electric, our gas is pre payment.

Dahliasrule · 04/10/2022 15:04

I am with Octopus like a previous poster and have also had my direct debit reduced by £67. I assume this means they have paid my usual amount off my bill but just charged me the amount less £67. I would have preferred to have seen an actual refund so that I know I am actually getting it.

UnderCoverFieldAgent · 04/10/2022 15:15

We’ve had sod all from British Gas. We only pay £40 a month as we’ve got solar panels so I wasn’t sure if we’d just get a £26/27 credit. They were happy enough to take the £40 but the ‘refund’ doesn’t seem very forthcoming 😆

BertiesShoes · 04/10/2022 15:48

@UnderCoverFieldAgent

when did your October DD go to BG? It could only have been yesterday or today, the refunds will take a few days after the DD day, according to their email which I received on 19th August.

My understanding is that you will get £40 back into bank and the remaining £26 as credit onto your account (as stated on the above email)
