I'm not well. I feel distinctly below par. (Not covid!)

DH said he'd pop to the shops to get me something nice to eat.

But I can't think what I want.

Any suggestions?

What do you like to eat / drink when you're not well?

Some nice soup always appeals when I'm feeling unwell.

CollyWibbleWobbles · 03/10/2022 17:44

Tomato soup and a cheese sandwich or beans on toast with cheese

LimeCheesecake · 03/10/2022 17:45

depends on the type of ill.

my various go to sick foods:
Chicken Thai green curry (nice and spicy when feeling a bit bunged up)

chicken or tomato soup with nice bread

pasta with rich cheese sauce (possibly with peas in it and some paprika- but best homemade)

Mash

I've just sent DH out for ice cream to ease my sore throat.

Mogloveseggs · 03/10/2022 17:46

Soup and sandwich. Specifically M and s minestrone with smoked bacon. Crusty baguette, butter and slices of mature cheddar.
Hope you feel better soon 💐

watcherintherye · 03/10/2022 17:47

Chunky vegetable soup with some crusty bread and proper butter. I’m feeling a bit below par, and really fancy that now!

TitInATrance · 03/10/2022 17:48

Fish pie. Custard tarts.

MangoBiscuit · 03/10/2022 17:49

Depends on what kind of ill you are. If it's a cold, noodle soup. I cheat, I make spicy packet noodles with a bit too much water, and good handful of veg thrown in (peppers, pak choi, spring onions) and an egg on top. I can usually grab the noodles from Tesco. Whole thing takes maybe 5 mins to cook, and it never fails to make me feel a bit better.

If it's fluey, and I'm exhausted, anything carb filled that I can eat with one hand, that I don't have to cook. Chicken nuggets. Then I can eat three, feel awful, nap for 20 minutes, then eat the rest.

Something carby is usually a good call ....cheesey mashed potatoes, cottage pie type thing.
Or scrambled eggs or beans on toast (marmite toast with the beans)

AsAnyFuleKno · 03/10/2022 17:56

Cheese on toast.

soundsystem · 03/10/2022 17:56

Yep, definitely carbs! I'm also below-par and I'm having a mucked-bout-in-a-pan combo of fried potato, egg, black pudding, tomatoes, spinach 🤤

LeafHunter · 03/10/2022 17:57

Pasta with cream cheese stirred in and under the grill with cheese on top. Often add a bit of tomato or chorizo.

MrsPnut · 03/10/2022 17:57

Heinz cream of tomato soup with a cheese sandwich made with soft white bread.

Gigihulu · 03/10/2022 17:57

JP & cheese

GreenLeavesRustling · 03/10/2022 17:58

Chicken soup

TheSausageKingofChicago · 03/10/2022 17:59

If it’s a cold, a lovely takeaway curry.

FrazzleDazz · 03/10/2022 18:00

A big steamy bowl of chicken ramen, it feels like health in a bowl! However if we're talking the corner shop, a tin of tomato soup and some cheese on toast is a winner too 😋

AriettyHomily · 03/10/2022 18:12

Knorr chicken noodle packet soup with tiger bread and butter

Micro mash and bisto

LimeCheesecake · 03/10/2022 18:14

Oh and chocolate eclairs for pudding. Or chocolate fudge cake (microwaved) with vanilla ice cream.

Flugelbinder · 03/10/2022 18:15

Cold - spicy
Flu - carby
Stomach - sugary (coke/sprite)
PMT - all the food in the cupboards, all daddy’s beer, all the carbs, chocolate and Prosecco with a cherry on top

YumYummy · 03/10/2022 18:16

Toast and marmalade and maybe just a few (half a box) of chocolates.

declutteringmymind · 03/10/2022 18:19

Jacket potatoes

juliadorking · 03/10/2022 19:57

Thanks all. In the end I had tomato soup and cheese on toast.

And a custard tart. 😋

I was going to suggest tomato soup with a grilled cheese toastie.

CloseYourMouthLynn · 03/10/2022 20:25

Definitely tomato soup with a cheese toastie, good call! Hope you feel better.
