WARNING - Screen with envy in administration

Adventurisoutthere · 02/10/2022 20:57

So it seems like screen with envy has gone bust, there are members of staff claiming that they haven’t been paid for the previous month and have been let go (hence phones are no longer being answered).

However the website is still willing to take our money and “order” products. So just a heads up to anyone thinking of parting with their money as trust pilot seems to confirm it’s unlikely anyone is getting their orders!

It was owned by a mumsnetter wasn’t it? I saw a thread where they were asking for help naming the business.

Adventurisoutthere · 02/10/2022 21:07

@ColoursAndRainbows Yes I remember the post too - it’s where the name originated (from what I remember).

Oldoldold · 02/10/2022 21:11

what are we talking about here?

Adventurisoutthere · 02/10/2022 21:12

@Oldoldold www.screenwithenvy.co.uk

cooolio · 02/10/2022 21:13

@Oldoldold if you've got a plastic fence on order then this might be for you.

The truth is that some MNetters start frothing at the mouth the minute this company is mentioned because she asked for name ideas on here many moons ago 🤣. Bizarre

KittytheHare · 02/10/2022 21:14

Terrible trust pilot reviews for a while now. Very unethical if a business continues to trade knowing it has run out of road.

cooolio · 02/10/2022 21:14

@Adventurisoutthere why you buying plastic fences in October?

Adventurisoutthere · 02/10/2022 21:18

@cooolio I ordered it before summer (months ago) when the winds pulled my fence down… I guess I’ll stop waiting for it now 😂

Surtsey · 02/10/2022 21:48

Is there an official source of this information, because there's nothing about it on the Companies House website.

Adventurisoutthere · 02/10/2022 21:57

@Surtsey Not that I’m aware of - I just tried to chase my order (again) this evening and have found that Facebook, Instagram and Google for the company have been taken down. Given that they were prolific of Instagram and Facebook and used this as a sales platform I found it concerning - all could find from them was a email sent by the CEO that has been published by members of staff saying that with great sadness the business has ceased trading.

Companies house usually declare with a lag from what I’ve read so I guess I’ll just keep a look out!

Oldoldold · 02/10/2022 22:35

An ex decided that I wanted a 'white picket fence'. I think it was a term for stability or some shit. Never got that white picket fence! 🤔

tectonicplates · 02/10/2022 22:38

Has the founder of the company deleted her linkedin page?

Worriedmama32 · 03/10/2022 00:15

A company can trade whilst in administration but it would need to declare that its “in administration” on the website and documentation as well as show the Administrators contract details

landscaper · 04/10/2022 13:44

Saw this chat, had to pipe in. Their offices in Southampton seem to be for rent, that’s their registered office, both husband and wife won awards for this “business” yet have thousands of negative reviews in the past few months, their phone lines are closed, they have shut down their web chat, their email responses are automated, and yet they are still taking money and orders through their website. They are blocking any negative reviews and have removed profiles from social media, neither her nor her husband are on linked in. What was good business seems to be either failing, failed or in the hands of liquidators / administrators. Thousands of people, like me, have paid hundreds of pounds in good faith to, essentially be ripped off. There is a Facebook group for people that are still owed money but…..as for me I have found their personal address in London and the addresses of parents etc…….a good internet search shows all! Thank you companies house. I would avoid this company at all costs, I have been taken advantage of and I’m a pro. Good luck anyone who has not had the service from this (imho) terrible behaviour from a business.

Yesthatismychildsigh · 04/10/2022 13:48

There was a thread on here a good few months ago about the appalling customer service and general ignoring after they had the money, it mentioned a Facebook group full of complaints, so the writing has been on the wall for ages. Sounded like a shitty business run by someone with wilfully doing this or totally out of their depth, yet carrying on. Really shocking.

neverendingpartywallproblems · 04/10/2022 13:51

I am not the slightest bit surprised to see any of this. We ordered from them in early 2021 (at this time their Trustpilot overall rating was high with few recent negative experiences). They were truly horrendous to deal with and I can see from recent posts and reviews, have only gotten worse and worse.

At that time, they were constantly advertising endless promotions via social media but would delete and block anyone who dared ask for an update on their order (no complaint, just polite request). Our order was high value and by constantly chasing, phoning and wasting hours of time, we managed to escalate it and get it on an urgent delivery (we had received endless 'dummy' shipping and delivery emails before this) but the experience put me off any further orders and recommending them to anyone. I consider myself one of the lucky ones but did warn the manager that did help us that treating customers this way was doing them no favours at all

tectonicplates · 04/10/2022 14:00

@landscaper A registered office is an address from which you are registered to submit your accounts to Companies House. If you pay an accountancy firm to do your accounts, then the registered office will often be the address of your accountancy firm, not the office where your actual business is located. That science park in Southampton has lots of different companies in it.

Accountancy firms often receive letters of complaint addressed to their clients, from people who don't understand how it works.

Yabado · 04/10/2022 14:33

I ordered from SWE in June I was one of the lucky ones who actually got the order that I placed
but after reading the terrible reviews I didn’t reorder the rest of what I wanted to finish my garden .

I did order from Charles & Ivy twice and just placed another order and I can’t fault them so if anyone needs similar garden screens I would definitely recommend Charles & Ivy

ReturnOfTheMacdonalds · 06/10/2022 07:40

I can’t believe it took this long. I worked there a couple of years back (for not even a month before quitting).

The owner didn’t know how to run a business and was incredibly rude to everyone. She used to hide upstairs drawing pictures of flowers while members of staff downstairs were crying from stress. I’m gutted for anyone who didn’t get their order but I’m glad that toxic woman won’t be scamming anyone else now.

Manditelf · 11/10/2022 22:34

Absolutely disgusting firm! So greedy and cruel! Taking innocent people's money for ther own good! Shame on you!😡

MooFroo · 11/10/2022 22:59

oh wow! Was going to place an order when sale was on - so glad I didnt!

keepcalm11 · 25/11/2022 20:18

I hope its ok to post here a month later.

I was just going to ask Mumsnet if anyone was having issues with screen with envy and on speck I did a search to check if anyone had already started a thread. Low and behold!

I'm gutted but at least only in it for £52.

It's dispicable that they are still taking orders

Footieunfan · 25/11/2022 20:20

I bought our screens from Charles and ivy. Whose service was great. I am not surprised by this, I read the reviews before ordering and trust pilot was full of terrible reviews.

keepcalm11 · 25/11/2022 20:30

I'm just looking at Charles now but unfortunately the item I order from SWE was a radiator cover , back in May on pre odrer for July .

I used to be able to contact them on the live chat and kept getting fobbed off with next month, next month etc .

Now the chat and phone line and emails are not being answered.

I thought they must be still ok because the website is open and taking orders 😡
