I've been asked to give this as a gift, but my reading habits took a really weird (and completely unmonitored) turn at this age and absolutely wouldn't be appropriate!

Hoping someone can suggest something that resonated and is appropriate. My kids are too little for me to be in this headspace!

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 01/10/2022 13:33

It's a funny age because you might still being reading kids' books and also reading adults' books.

I remember reading The Country Girls by Edna O'Brien around this time and I was probably re-reading Anne of the Island by LM Montgomery too. Similar themes but very different books!

EarlofShrewsbury · 01/10/2022 13:34

Ooh and all the point horror books.

BusyBeaMe · 01/10/2022 13:34

i Think I was still into Point Horror at this stage.

Flowers in the attic. Super inappropriate 🤣🤣🤣

ShowOfHands · 01/10/2022 13:40

I was obsessed with Pride and Prejudice and Cyrano de Bergerac (a play rather than a book) but friends who weren't wankers liked Forever by Judy Blume, Point Horror and, er, Flowers in the Attic.

What about Grant's Gone series? Skulduggery Pleasant? Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime?

EnormousStuffedMarrow · 01/10/2022 13:41

@pastapestoparmesan me too!

But also Evelyn Waugh & Agatha Christie.

DimplesToadfoot · 01/10/2022 13:42

Lord if the Rings / The Hobbit

40 years later they are still my favourite books

LokiDokiArtichoki · 01/10/2022 13:43

Virginia andrews. The Heaven series, Dawn series and flowers in the attic series. And my sweet Audrina- still one of the weirdest ‘twists’ in a book I’ve ever read.

stillsleeptraining · 01/10/2022 13:43

Oh wow - loads of ideas. Thanks!

I was reading Flowers In The Attic (sneaked off my mum's bookcase). I think I read all the Agatha Christie books then as well.
