Central London restaurant that’s not super expensive

Central London restaurant . On a Saturday night. Ideally fish and steak. Looked at loch fine but didn’t realise it had shut. Hawksmoor looks mega expensive as it’ll be for 5….and DH paying.

I was also looking for inspiration, thanks for all the great suggestions

I'm at Flat Iron on Tuesday, sounds like it will be good.

MadameMinimes · 01/10/2022 18:13

Flat iron is great but it’s not a leisurely three courses sort of place. It is excellent value though.

LaLoose · 01/10/2022 18:32

Lord mayors Show won’t make a jot of difference - it won’t be noticed with it London and all will be normal.

LuciaPopp · 01/10/2022 18:36

How about Sophie’s Steakhouse, Soho?

Just to jump on to a thread with people who know London.

Would it be bonkers to attempt the Museum of London during the Lord Mayor’s show? We are there Fri-Mon for the remembrance parade and I planned for us to do the museum on Saturday the 12th, which I’ve just found out is the LM show 🙄
We are staying at The Mad hatter near Blackfriars bridge, which is closed that day, we can walk across millenium bridge but presumably it will be heaving around St Pauls?

Is it a really bad idea?
We could go on the Friday I suppose but don’t get in to Euston till 11.50, add on another hour to get to the hotel etc. and not sure if it’s worth it?

the floats wait to set off around London Wall and Moorgate, guildhall so not far from the Museum . It starts off at about 11am and takes an hour for all the floats to get through the starting point.

I really like flat iron. It's a quick service though one hour ish.

The complimentary ice cream is the best ice cream I've even had.

cherrypiepie · 01/10/2022 20:28

Flatiron is half the price and twice as good as hawksMoor imho!

Throughabushbackwards · 01/10/2022 21:13

We ended up at Pizza Express a few Saturdays ago because everywhere else was booked. Good luck OP!

BarrelOfOtters · 01/10/2022 22:05

I’m not keen on relying on finding a walk in and flat iron looks like no booking. 3 out of the 5 get v v hangry. Certainty is better.

You can now book flat iron. Just they keep tables back for walk ins too.

Scoffin · 01/10/2022 22:13

It might not be exactly what you're looking for but Fadiga is a lovely family run Italian and doesn't seem to get as booked up as the better known places

sm40 · 01/10/2022 22:16

Try flat iron. We did the soho one last week. Only had to wait 40 mins so had a wander round. Meal for cake to £130. It's not a long lingering event but great service and yummy ice cream to see you in your way!

sm40 · 01/10/2022 22:17

Meal for 4 came to £130!

FlowerArranger · 01/10/2022 22:21

I highly recommend Tas. Delicious middle eastern food. Several branches:

Bloomsbury - near the British Museum
The Cut near Waterloo
Around the corner from the Globe

I think the Cote chain is reliable and reasonable. There are lots around, Sloane Square, St. Paul’s, st martins lane, Barbican……..

No one really goes to the Lord Mayor’s Show. Last time it was on, I just happened to be near the Museum of London and wondered what the noise was, but it wasn’t noticeably much busier on the streets.

ihatesoaps · 01/10/2022 22:30

Too late now but what about Quaglinos?

YukoandHiro · 01/10/2022 22:35

God I love Zedel. Time for a cocktail evening I think

Blueuggboots · 01/10/2022 22:35

Brasserie zedel. Lovely place!
