The Beckhams

So let me start by saying that I actually really like VB (well I like her from her Insta posts) and she looks great. Don't really follow DB but am sure he's fine too but find it really strange the way they've really pushed their children into the spotlight from a very young age, they obviously really love them and seem to especially dote on Harper and this is where I find them quite contradictory.

Brooklyn seems to come up for lots of criticism, rightly or wrongly but he's still very young and maybe just finding his way. Obviously he's had incredible opportunities that most of our DC could only dream of but I can't help but think if he was allowed to do these things out of the spotlight it would have been much better for him. Some of articles I read about him have been awful but some might argue that if V&B had let him grow up in private then he wouldn't be put under such constant scrutiny.

Cruz being on the front cover of a magazine virtually naked at 17 and his failed singing career. I know at 17 it's entirely his choice but seems very young IMHO.

Harper is a gorgeous girl but looking at photos of her yesterday at VB's fashion show I just thought she was dressed so inappropriately, she's 11 (or thereabouts) and was in a dress more suitable for a 20 year old. She's obviously on the cusp of puberty and I can't help but feel it can't be healthy for a young girl to be all over the press and again, maybe not now because she is still a little girl, but at some point become a target for trolls (she may already well be).

Romeo - I don't know much about except he plays for his dad'd club (I think).

As I said above, they're obviously loved but this aspect of their upbringing is quite weird (to me anyway) but I might be just an old fart and this is all very normal 😜

I agree. There's a lot I like about the Beckhams but I think it would have been much better to keep the kids out of the spotlight a bit more.

RavenT · 01/10/2022 11:05

I would like to know how much their PR team pay to keep them in the DM headlines when there is so much else going on in the world,.... 🤔

AuntSalli · 01/10/2022 11:06

Yes just you, who criticises a young family picking them up a bit by bit honestly I think you need a bit more going on in your life you’ve got too much time on your hands.

Ylvamoon · 01/10/2022 11:09

I couldn't care less.

Samcro · 01/10/2022 11:09

it must be hard for Brooklyn, he gets called a celebrity/star yet he has never done anything and has no known talent. sets him up to fall.

catandcoffee · 01/10/2022 11:11

Given money is no issue with the family I'd have have given my children the best education.
Encouraged them to aim for very good jobs.

The criticisms are fair. They embarrass themselves all the time and they make so many people cringe. Ugh

J0y · 01/10/2022 11:16

It's a lot of pressure on their children. It should be ok for them to be healthy, content and ordinary.

They shouldn't be shamed for not being extraordinary. Their parents were kind of quirky, talented, spirited, and didn't come from great wealthy. Their own children aren't going to be the same.

They have enough money to pursue their passions but will then be shamed if they're not spectacular in that field.

Octoberautumn · 01/10/2022 11:16

I'd completely forgotten they had one called Romeo.

J0y · 01/10/2022 11:24

I know Ronan Keating and neither his first wife nor his second wife are in the Beckham's league wealth-wise, but their son Jack who is about the same age as Brooklyn seems fairly normal. No delusions of grandeur, aware he lacks the patter to win over the ladies but he does have the confidence of a kid with two families behind him. Jack has a 9 to 5 type of job though.

He has to get out of bed five mornings a week although his dad could fund him. I do agree with people upthread that a job, an ordinary job is so good for kids like this.

Callum Best springs to mind

His dad was a famous footballer and he's made a career off that fact, incredible really

Esp as George Best was famous for all the wrong reasons

J0y · 01/10/2022 11:26

oh dear! Just googled and Jack has quit his day job. Sigh.

Yes they were both born around the same time as my eldest son who is 23 and never spoken a word in his life due to the extent of disability.
It breaks my heart to see these young men- well any young men of that age - who started off as a baby when my son was. I had no idea back then what his future held.
Obviously I knew he would never have what BB has, but just the ability to speak.
That's all I ever wanted for him.

Erm... Is that the same Jack that’s just been on Love Island?

J0y · 01/10/2022 11:34

That's hard @Octoberautumn xx

My son has autism and although it's not severe, he won't do a damn thing he doesn't want to do so I don't know what his future holds (he's 16). I wish I had the money to make it all ok, but then again, if a problem can be solved by money there are worse problems.

J0y · 01/10/2022 11:35

@MissingNashville yes, unfortunately he quit his proper job and now he is ''influencing''!

I can't see that going well for him.

universalcreditquestion · 01/10/2022 11:38

I thought that Harper looked lovely in the dress, it wasn’t inappropriate and she wasn’t wearing make up or anything (or if she was it was very natural) she looked like an 11 year old in an occasion dress

Curtainpalm · 01/10/2022 11:38

For those of you who have criticised me for criticising them, that’s exactly my point, were they kept out of the public eye then I, and many others, wouldn’t start these kind of threads. As I said, they seem like people who love their children v much but also must know how much putting their children in the spotlight could have a real negative effect on them. Just an opinion, like many others on Mumsnet

Tbh good for them! If my parents were David and Victoria I'd have been a fashion designer, a travel guru, a chef, have a range of sports cars. The lot. To some extent they have kept them from the spotlight say unlike Kris Jenner who pretty much thrust her daughters into the spotlight whether they liked it or not. I don't think the Beckham kids have faired altogether that badly. It matters not a jot whether or not you have talent if your parents are rich and famous.

SheldontheWonderSchlong · 01/10/2022 11:40

OP - Just looked at the photos of Harper you were talking about and wtf?! Who thought a lacy plunging neckline was appropriate for an 11year old? My dd is the same age and I'm honestly shocked they've allowed that.

AutumnCrow · 01/10/2022 11:42

I've quite a harsh opinion of Brand Beckham, put it that way.

Tiaandchewy79 · 01/10/2022 11:47

I agree, if Beckhams put their children out there for scrutiny, then so be it.
Had to laugh at them, in my opinion, creating a ‘story’ about a family feud to generate some interest and fodder for DM.
Just find the Beckhams so unlikable, and I think they use Harper to create headlines, positive or otherwise.

User2145738790 · 01/10/2022 11:51

Just because their parents put them out there doesn't mean you need to rip into children.

But in what way were their children not thrust into the spotlight? They’ve been in the public eye way before they would have had a say in the matter and now they just are and open to scrutiny whether they like it or not.
