So let me start by saying that I actually really like VB (well I like her from her Insta posts) and she looks great. Don't really follow DB but am sure he's fine too but find it really strange the way they've really pushed their children into the spotlight from a very young age, they obviously really love them and seem to especially dote on Harper and this is where I find them quite contradictory.

Brooklyn seems to come up for lots of criticism, rightly or wrongly but he's still very young and maybe just finding his way. Obviously he's had incredible opportunities that most of our DC could only dream of but I can't help but think if he was allowed to do these things out of the spotlight it would have been much better for him. Some of articles I read about him have been awful but some might argue that if V&B had let him grow up in private then he wouldn't be put under such constant scrutiny.

Cruz being on the front cover of a magazine virtually naked at 17 and his failed singing career. I know at 17 it's entirely his choice but seems very young IMHO.

Harper is a gorgeous girl but looking at photos of her yesterday at VB's fashion show I just thought she was dressed so inappropriately, she's 11 (or thereabouts) and was in a dress more suitable for a 20 year old. She's obviously on the cusp of puberty and I can't help but feel it can't be healthy for a young girl to be all over the press and again, maybe not now because she is still a little girl, but at some point become a target for trolls (she may already well be).

Romeo - I don't know much about except he plays for his dad'd club (I think).

As I said above, they're obviously loved but this aspect of their upbringing is quite weird (to me anyway) but I might be just an old fart and this is all very normal 😜

Harper looked lovely in her dress. If you think there's something wrong with how she looked it says more about you @Curtainpalm

Remmy123 · 01/10/2022 17:53

That dress was def inappropriate for an 11 year old.

What if she'd gone out in a leather bikini? Would anybody saying that was wrong also be raging pedos?

And I think there’s something very wrong with a society that’s so interested in what an 10/11 year old is wearing. It was just a dress. It doesn’t appear that they were trying to make her appear older, she was just wearing a dress, with braided hair and trainers, surrounded by her mum, dad and brothers. She was dressing up for a special night, she’s safe. People are making it into something it’s not.

And this is exactly my point. We all know what social media is like, and the Beckhams would know this more than any of us, and yet they have allowed their children to be at the centre of it.

I don't get why parents expose their kids on social media when they're in the public eye. Especially with the Beckhams/Tamara Ecclestone.

Let them make their own minds up about their digital footprint. They've had their entire childhoods documented on social media.

puttingontheritz · 01/10/2022 19:54

I like them as a couple, they have stayed married and in those pictures yesterday Victoria was virtually running down the run way to give David a hug. They seem like a close family and the obviously adored their kids.

I feel sorry for their eldest as he doesn't seem to be very talented at anything or have the ability to stick to stuff, and also, and this puzzles me, they have so much money. Why didn't they at least buy him an education? He seems to have been bumming about for years not doing a lot, not being amazing at sport or successful in some other way, they should have sent him to uni to give him some breathing space.

We all know it as well as they do, we all see the shit online. A lot of people still choose to put their children at the centre of it. The Beckham's are no worse than any other parents that do this. If you put your kids online, everyone has access to them whether you’re famous or not.

Celticandco · 01/10/2022 20:07

God who'd be famous, I do feel sorry for famous people's children who have no choice. Maybe they'd love to just work in a supermarket but can't do anything a 'normal' person would.

Curtainpalm · 01/10/2022 21:29

Huge difference between sharing a photo in as private account and sharing on an account with millions which will be shown on the front cover of a newspaper/ Vogue.

They seem a lovely family. I have no issue with the dress Harper wore, looks nice.

I think many photos of her over the last few years show a slightly overweight child. I can get flamed for saying it but if that was one of my DC or one of their friends I would think the same. I’m not judging and wish them the best like any family, it’s an objective observation.

justasking111 · 01/10/2022 22:35

Think their education has been sketchy different countries add to that the celebrity status. Sensible celebrities put education first, shelter them from media and don't spoil them materially

StClare101 · 01/10/2022 23:19

The Beckham’s have partly built their brand out of their family. Instead they should have kept them out of the limelight and focused on their education and usual extra curricular activities. They are also exposing Harper way more than her brothers. It’s weird. Did the boys have their own hashtags being heavily used by their mother when they were young? No I don’t believe so. That poor girl is not being set up for a balanced life. None of them are.

Choopi · 01/10/2022 23:32

I saw VBs tiktok of Harper and I thought it was lovely, the girl looked delighted with herself, as she should.

At the end of the day her kids are free to do whatever they want. If her kids wanted careers as Drs or whatever I'm sure the private education that the Beckhams have bought them could have sent them on that path. You can't force a child to study, you can't force them into careers that mumsnet would find respectable. If BB for instance wanted to he could go to uni but he clearly doesn't want that. What do you want the Beckhams to do about a fully grown adult leveraging his parents fame to do what he wants?

Fizbosshoes · 01/10/2022 23:38

VB has made a success of herself (as in more than 5 min of fame) despite not being especially good at singing, or designing clothes.
I think there probably is pressure for famous off spring especially if they've grown up in the public eye. Wasn't one of the Beckham boys going to be the next big thing at Wimbledon at one stage? (Nothing wrong with them being good at tennis or having lessons from top coaches but it's a pretty tall aim)
I'm pretty sure I wouldn't recognise any of the other spice girls' children, so possibly easier for them to be under the radar if they wanted a job at John Lewis, or Costa.

I know Ronan Keating and neither his first wife nor his second wife are in the Beckham's league wealth-wise, but their son Jack who is about the same age as Brooklyn seems fairly normal. No delusions of grandeur, aware he lacks the patter to win over the ladies but he does have the confidence of a kid with two families behind him. Jack has a 9 to 5 type of job though.

He has to get out of bed five mornings a week although his dad could fund him. I do agree with people upthread that a job, an ordinary job is so good for kids like this.

No delusions of grandeur, unlike his father then? I've met Ronan on 3 occasions, every single time he was a rude, arrogant twat.

Changingmynameyetagain · 02/10/2022 00:26

I’ve always thought that when HB is pictured she’s dressed like a normal little girl.
Yesterday was obviously a big day for VB and Harper was dressed in a copy of one of her dresses, but she’s usually dressed in pretty age appropriate clothes and she doesn’t seem to wear makeup either.

Absolutely but they’ve all been in the public eye since way before they were old enough to make these decisions for themselves. Lots of celebrities don’t have their kids in the public eye and they go on to make the decision to live their life that way when their older and then some don’t.

I’m sure both VB and HB had a lovely time getting ready together and I'm sure HB adored her dress but I’m equally as sure VB would have know the dresses would get a ton of column inches which would act as publicity for her Paris show. Publicity that comes via her 11 year old daughter.

Yes, it really is a cult of mediocrity. Quite extraordinary

Curtainpalm · 02/10/2022 06:56

See, I really like her clothes (not that I could afford them) If it is her that designs and styles them then I’d say she’s super talented at that.

I would like to know how much their PR team pay to keep them in the DM headlines when there is so much else going on in the world,.... 🤔

Yep, this. They were pretty much out of the limelight, but they’re back, front and centre.

They are all obsessed with fame.

Mystery2345 · 02/10/2022 07:05

My only criticism is children missing a day of school for a fashion show. Shows a different set of values than my own. They seem a happy enough bunch though.

floorida · 02/10/2022 07:22

I think they really buy into "brand power". I would never use my dc for publicity but I think fame is very important to them.

floorida · 02/10/2022 07:32

most famous people keep their dc very private

I think that’s it. An obsession with fame. I suppose they just think the the negative bits go with the territory 🤷‍♀️

I do feel sorry for Brooklyn. He seems to feel under huge pressure to be something he isn't.
If he was the son of an ordinary anonymous couple he would probably feel quite happy working as a plumber or an insurance clerk or a taxi driver. But because he's David and Victoria's son there's an unusual level of scrutiny on him and pressure to really shine at something and work in a glamorous field.

He also got married very very young compared to most of his contemporaries nowadays.
