I've just cancelled my Morrison's delivery pass, who shall I use instead?

Who would you recommend for supermarket delivery please. I left Tesco about 4 years ago due to too many substitutions and lateness. Have now decided to change from Morrison's.

Leaning towards Sainsbury's at the moment.

I have a weekly slot with Asda (7-8am) and it's always on time, latest it's been is 7.40am. I sometimes get substitutions but they are usually very like for like e.g. one brand of bread for another. The only annoying substitution was I when I was sent size 0 nappies instead of size 3, was a pointless substitution really. I've never had an issue with the freshness of products or with frozen products not being frozen on arrival. Maybe I'm just lucky

I've only really kept with Asda because during lock downs it was the only supermarket k could ever get a slot with.

Ocado are my go to. Rarely get subs, drivers are polite, they buy the bags back, don't struggle to get delivery slots, love the flash sale items.

Also, over the summer they did a third off M&S school uniform which saved me a fortune.

Yes, it's more expensive, but it's good quality food with long dates.

Have used sainsburys for years. Have been mostly fine but switching away as I’ve been waiting three weeks for a £130 refund for an order they cancelled at last minute. Sainsburys refunds team is swamped with a 10 to 15 working day backlog and their customer service say sorry but can’t do anything to fix the problem. So that’s not a recommendation from me but not sure anywhere else is much better!

I always go to facebook messenger if I have an issue, they are pretty much instant response.

KateLumley · 29/09/2022 16:23

Thanks for all the input, I guess no service is going to be perfect. I like the idea of being able to say no to substitutes.

I'm getting fed up with lack of choice with Morrisons. For example they never have butternut squash in stock. I end up going to other shops for things I can't get and would like just one delivery a week. Also Morrisons are constantly calling to deliver early - if I wanted it earlier I would book a different slot. Recently they have been practically chucking the shopping down and rushing off. I suppose they get to finish early.

I can't fault ocado.
Rarely subs.
Any issues (rare)nice been given voucher

pacificcoast · 29/09/2022 16:42

You see I find Morrisons the best, and I like it if they bring it early sometimes, you can just say no if it's not convenient.

SafeHeaven · 29/09/2022 16:47

I like Ocado. The only thing is though, they’re robot machine packers. This means things aren’t packed properly, stuff has occasionally leaked etc, yoghurts burst due to them being packed with something heavy on them

Growlybear83 · 29/09/2022 17:00

I've used Ocado for nearly 20 years and have always found them really good. As others have said, there are very few substitutions, they buy back all carrier bags, the drivers are always friendly and on time, and they have now started carrying shopping back into the room of your choice again. They seem to have a really huge selection of items, and have a large organic selection. My only disappointment is that they are now partnered with M&S rather than Waitrose. .

chocolateisavegetable · 29/09/2022 17:40

I think it does depend a lot on your local store. Here Asda delivery drivers are mostly grumpy, there are always several substitutions and the quality of fruit & veg is poor. Having said that, they are the best for refunds as it’s done very quickly through the app. Tesco mainly great and I love Ocado because stuff is handed to you in bags (which you return next time). Had appalling customer service from Sainsbury more than once

Aixellency · 29/09/2022 17:54

When is butternut squash in season?

I’ve used Ocado for more than a decade, with all the pros and cons already listed. But I also get a weekly (entirely seasonal!) veg box, so don’t rely on Ocado for most fruit and vegetables. (Or fish. Or wine. All ordered elsewhere.)

AnchorWHAT · 30/09/2022 12:30

In my area (SW) sainsburys are the best for me, usually slots available next day or day after, staff usually friendly, very rare that things are missing but subs are usually ok, you can request no subs on all or just individual items. Any issues quickly resolved using facebook messenger. Instant refunds for anything given back to the driver if it is not right or not wanted. I have had more stock issues with Tesco and Morrisons charge a lot to deliver but often have unavailable items. My second choice is Asda but the staff are not so friendly, they also cost more than sainsburys who offer £1 early slots on saver slots.

Itsanothergrunt · 30/09/2022 12:48

In nov/dec 2019 I tried asda, morissons and sainsbury for 2 weeks each to see if they were any better than tesco who had been having staff issues. All 3 I'm afraid were worse in different ways. I went back to tesco (who are changing there delivery saver plans currently). Sometimes it's best the devil you know.
I think you need to find out what your local service is like, my parents live the next town to me and they found sainsbury best, I found sainsbury the worst. Its area specific.

JesusSufferingFuck22 · 30/09/2022 13:03

All supermarket deliveries tend to fluctuate in quality of service.
I shop with my “feet” and if I get a couple of weeks or so with rubbish produce etc, I shop somewhere else.
Tesco have been the most dependable for me (in south of Scotland.)
I hope I’m not tempting fate by saying this. Last time I sung the praises of a supermarket, they suddenly got really crap.

PearlWithTheGirlEarring · 30/09/2022 14:03

I'm about to cancel Ocado.
Missing items, badly packed squashed food, stuff OOS for me, not to mention the end of the Star Reviewer it would seem which was a nice little perk worth staying for. The final straw was my missing box of Percy Pig Ice Cream cones this week and having to chase for the refund.

I've got a midweek pass but I'm finding myself ordering more from Waitrose or nipping in to Tesco so it's a question if I'm using it more than once a month now.

IceandIndigo · 30/09/2022 14:37

I used to use Sainsburys but won’t now because their customer service is dreadful. If anything goes wrong (delivery not arrived, missing items etc) it takes 20-30 mins to get through to customer service on the phone - there’s no option to report an issue online the way there is with Morrisons. I had a dreadful experience where they delivered my shopping 24 hours late and I couldn’t get anyone to explain or take responsibility for what had happened. Their prices and range are ok but the fresh produce is often poor quality. I alternate between Morrisons and Waitrose now. Waitrose is great but definitely more expensive. Morrisons I agree about the range but otherwise I find them much better than Sainsburys.

PinkCosYouAreSoVery · 30/09/2022 16:20

I have used Tesco ( a fair few years) , Asda (over covid) and Sainsburys recently for a few months. I really like Sainsburys quality of meat, but loads of short dates on each order and quality of veg was consistently dire. Also you can't easily request a refund for stuff which I regularly needed to do but didnt as it was too much hassle. I like Asda as you can have a automated regular slot and also seem to get more for your money. Tesco was fine but I found it a bit more expensive and less of a range available.

GatoradeMeBitch · 30/09/2022 23:47

Also Morrisons are constantly calling to deliver early - if I wanted it earlier I would book a different slot.

At least they call you first. I'd just got out of the shower this morning when they knocked, 90 minutes early. He got a bigger shock than I did when a 50 year old with mad hair opened the door only dressed in a bath sheet...

I have a grudge against Morrisons. They switched to Ocado's system shortly after I bought a delivery pass. Evidently customers were gifted a free one year pass in celebration. Not me. I emailed customer services and got "computer says no". However every week for a year when I've signed in to book a slot I see the message "This ones on us thanks to your free delivery pass!" Grrr.

It runs out in three days and I'm going back to Tesco. Though in fairness I should say Morrisons are very generous with their money off vouchers. £15 off a £60 spend is decent and they send them out quite often.

MissDollyMix · 30/09/2022 23:54

I think it really depends on area. I’ve tried them all and for me I’d say Ocado is the best and Sainsburys the worst. The latter= expensive, lots of substitutions, they don’t cover the cost if the substitution is more expensive, some products were actually out of date and the vast majority went off within 24-48 hours of delivery. When I asked for a refund on the portion of the shop I wasn’t happy with they just offered me Sainsburys online credit which was no use to me because I had no intention of ever placing an online order with them again! Ocado on the other hand rarely make a substitution and their app is very user friendly. They also have a really good choice of products.

Babdoc · 01/10/2022 00:03

Obviously varies by area, but my Sainsbugs is excellent. One hour delivery slot, always on time. Pleasant drivers, no quibble about taking back anything you aren’t happy with.
Food always on good long use by dates.
Very rare substitutions, and always of better quality product for same price - eg organic grass fed highland lamb instead of standard lamb, quilted Andrex instead of classic, etc.
Refunds are processed on the spot and appear on your online account as vouchers.
I have used Sainsbugs since being fatigued with long Covid, so a couple of years, and I am more than satisfied. The quality and ripeness of fresh fruit and veg is far superior to my local Tesco.

mondaytosunday · 01/10/2022 00:07

I used to be a star reviewer too, and it was a great perk. Just being dropped has put me off shopping there, I must admit. I didn’t get any star reviewer emails for a year or so, so just unsubscribed from their marketing emails now. I think they still do it, but obviously have new reviewers. Maybe I told the truth about rubbish products and they didn’t like it ! There is a smartpass sale on at the moment, where you can save ‘up to 50%’. Yep the 50% is on about 3 items that had over inflated prices anyway. I now buy meat from the butcher and get top ups from co~op delivery, and booze and household products from Amazon.

Mol1628 · 02/10/2022 12:05

Tesco have always be fine for us till recently. Had two orders completely cancelled and only notified once it was well into the delivery slot time.

I think we are going to try Asda.
