I've just cancelled my Morrison's delivery pass, who shall I use instead?

Who would you recommend for supermarket delivery please. I left Tesco about 4 years ago due to too many substitutions and lateness. Have now decided to change from Morrison's.

Leaning towards Sainsbury's at the moment.

Asda have been the best in our area.

Howeverdoyouneedme · 29/09/2022 09:31

I alternate between sainsburys and ASDA.
Both pretty good. I get a saver slot for Sainos which is a four hour slot.

occasionally ice lollies from Asda aren’t frozen.

KateLumley · 29/09/2022 09:34

Melty ice lollies would concern me, as I would wonder what else isn't being chilled properly.

Have used sainsburys for years. Have been mostly fine but switching away as I’ve been waiting three weeks for a £130 refund for an order they cancelled at last minute. Sainsburys refunds team is swamped with a 10 to 15 working day backlog and their customer service say sorry but can’t do anything to fix the problem. So that’s not a recommendation from me but not sure anywhere else is much better!

Lightingthefiretoday · 29/09/2022 09:56

I use Sainsburys home delivery service and am very happy with it. I have been using it for more than ten years and it was very good throughout Covid too. It’s very rare that I get substitutions and generally are ok and they take them back no questions asked. I generally buy foods to make meals from scratch, don’t buy a lot of ready meals etc.

if I’m not happy about something, very occasionally the bread is squashed, then they refund me the money but leave me the item.

yesterday I had accidentally asked for two of the same thing on my order and they took back and refunded the second.

I had a good look round the supermarkets price wise about a month ago and did think about shopping here and there but in the end decided that although something’s are cheaper elsewhere on the whole I think for quality, ie Aldi fruit and veg doesn’t last as long as Sainsburys I think Sainsburys are reasonably good value for money.

I do make use of the not having substitutions, you can do it by item, for things that a substitute would not probably be ok but that’s due to food allergies.

Ive used a variety of delivery slots but went for the home delivery service (paid for the year, runs out next August ), midweek service, but possibly wished I hadn’t as I didn’t realise it was only Tue -Thursday, I’m WFH so it not an issue it’s just that I sometimes want a Mon or a Fri, and if I do I have to pay for the delivery. I used to get £1 slots but they went up and up and that’s what made me decide to pay for it and I think by next August it will have made sense to do so but doesn’t quite suit me (you get what you pay for I suppose).

My experience of Sainsbury's was poor. They regularly sent items with very short dates (once all my meat went out of date the day after delivery) and they refused to offer a refund.

It's really difficult to complain too as you just get fobbed off.

CakeIsNotAvailable · 29/09/2022 10:00

We've tried Sainsbury's, Tesco and Morrisons and in our area Sainsbury's is head and shoulders above the competition. We've found Tesco customer service pretty awful. Morrisons was good, but very expensive and poor choice.

ginsparkles · 29/09/2022 10:01

I have just switched to sainsburys as they have a better gluten free diary free range than tesco. They have been very good so far. I don't allow substitutions and have only had one or two things one each weekly shop that they don't have when it arrives.

DevaleraSpawnOfSatan · 29/09/2022 10:02

I walked out of my last radiotherapy session the day they locked us down which put me in the CEV category, Tesco wrote to me within about two days and said we have your back, Sainsburys with whom I had been shopping with for 32 years didn't, called them and eventually spoke to a human, and the reply was yeah you are on the list we will be in touch.

I now love Tesco and I just tick the no subs box, after years of struggling we are now quite comfortable so that is F*ck ton of money that JS are missing out on.

ARoyalSubject · 29/09/2022 10:04

I think it depends wholly on the depots in your own area. Morrisons is much the best here; Sainsbury's send loads of substitutions and Tesco are always substantially late.
I think all of them have reduced their product range though; it used to be that you could get things online that you couldn't get in local stores but not so any more.

PinkHeadphones · 29/09/2022 10:08

I have been using Sainsburys for about 10 years and haven't had too many problems.
They flag up in an email if something has a shorter shelf life than you might like and you can refuse it if you want. I tend to stick meat and fish in the freezer anyway if not using straight away. Cooked meats have been the main issue, ham etc.

FlipFlops4Me · 29/09/2022 10:08

I've used most of them but the one I like best is Ocado as I get fresh fruit and veg, very few (usually none) substitutions and they come exactly when they say they will. The drivers are all friendly and helpful.

I know people say Ocado are dear but tbh I can get absolutely everything I need in one fell swoop, it's all fresh and the receipt tells me what must be eaten by when for meal planning. If you're careful, and buy their own stuff where you can, they're not as bad as people say for cost.

lickenchugget · 29/09/2022 10:15

Ocado is the only one I can rely one where we are (SE). Next-day slots, little or no substituons (one missing item and one substitution in the last 10 orders), and staff ring if they’re early etc. I have a midweek delivery pass which cost next to nothing, and get free deliveries midweek

With price rises all over, I don’t find the cost much worse than anywhere else.

I've found Sainsbos reliable. Possibly a bit less choice but they tend to have most things in stock and the subs make sense.

MsMiaWallace · 29/09/2022 10:22

Watching as cancelled Tesco delivery pass for poor service.

Sunbird24 · 29/09/2022 10:33

I switch between Sainsburys and Ocado - Ocado gave me a free delivery pass several years ago and I still somehow get free deliveries in certain time slots, plus they usually have them available st shorter notice than Sainsburys. Not much difference in price, but Ocado deliver in carrier bags, which you can give back to the driver on your next delivery for a 10p per bag refund, and with Sainsburys you have to transfer everything out of the crate on your doorstep. Minor inconvenience but may be harder for some people than just picking up a handful of bags (which are handily labelled cupboard, fridge or freezer)

Aixellency · 29/09/2022 10:39

But you haven’t said what the problem was with Morrisons, so how can people know where else to recommend?

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 29/09/2022 10:42

Tesco have been awful for us, constantly late with deliveries, rubbish subs.

I've started using Asda and they are far better, the new rewards scheme seems really good, some of the just essentials range are great and such good value too. And my last shop had no subs at all.

RedWingBoots · 29/09/2022 10:46

My local Sainsbury seems to check what stock they are going to have in on the day of your delivery.

They warn you if any items are going to be delivered with short dates so you can reject them before they are delivered.

They also do 1 hour delivery slots.

Haven't needed it recently but the delivery drivers are generally much more helpful (and less thick) than other supermarkets. So they can work out if you appear to be a healthy person but can't help them carry stuff.

The only issue is that they are more expensive than Asda and Tescos.

ethelredonagoodday · 29/09/2022 10:47

I've tried all of them including Ocado. Currently using Tesco and have been for some time. Generally ok and minimal substitutions.

Blix · 29/09/2022 10:50

Ive used them all but always go back to Tesco.
If anything is wrong they refund without question. Very rare I have a problem. Delivery free using clubcard vouchers.
Sainsbury - items frequently out of stock.
Morrisons appalling and you can't get fresh bread.
Asda ok but I just don't like their ranges.
Ocado keep sending me money off vouchers and free deliveries but even with those absolutely everything at Ocado is more expensive than elsewhere.

FourTeaFallOut · 29/09/2022 10:52

I think it really is area dependent. For me, Tesco is the.

Sophieleigh26 · 29/09/2022 10:53

Asda for me. If there’s any issues, you can request a refund on the app and it goes through automatically

FourTeaFallOut · 29/09/2022 10:53

Best. And Ocado was a shambles.
