Toddler sleeping bags? Is this still ok?

What do your 2 year olds sleep in please? I confess we are still using sleeping bags, as he's a proper cheeky monkey and would no doubt throw a duvet off (tries to find any excuse not to go down to sleep). I feel like he's too old for a sleeping bag but it works. How long can we get away with using sleeping bags for / what age are you meant to switch?

Also what kind of tog are people using?

Mine had sleeping bags until about 2.5 (the bags we had were for up to age 3 but my kids were tall....). After that I swapped to fleecy onesies as they couldn't keep duvets on for years.

Slumbersac do ones with legs up to adult size! DD is 3.5 and still likes to wear her 'walking duvets' as she calls them!

My oldest was in sleep sacks for years and years for this reason. My 2 year old is nowhere near ready to be without one. You can get ones with feet that let them walk about it they're out of a cot. But I keep mine in cots and sleeping bags as long as possible!

My 2.5 year old has a duvet and has done for a couple of months. From 2 until we switched he had a sleeping bag with feet.

Can anyone suggest where I can buy warm sleeping bags for older / larger toddlers? John Lewis was my go-to but they only go to age 2-3 and he's nearly grown out of them.

I think Gro bags go up to huge sizes if you check their website. We use a thinner one with a blanket on top for DS3 to try and get him used to keeping the blanket on, hopefully when we drop the sleeping bag it will be second nature for him to pull the blanket up when he turns over.

My DD only stopped using them about 6 months ago, and she’s 8.5! She moves around a lot in her sleep, so we were worried about her getting cold.
She’s actually adapted really well to snuggling up under a duvet, but before that, we got sleeping bags from Slumber Sac, which are a bit cheaper than Gro Bags and do large sizes.

My dd is 2 and wears 2.5 tog Snoozebag (sold on amazon). Wears age 3to6 years size as she is huge for her age. Hoping by the time she grows out of it (guessing age 3 max) she will be a less wriggly sleeper and can just have a pillow and quilt.

He's still in a cot. I'm not taking those bars away for a while yet!

I refused to buy the next size up after 18months. It took them both a while to work out the duvet but hasn't caused any issues to mention. How do they get up to use the loo in the night / morning with a sleeping bag? I guess they unzip? I'd worry about that taking too long and them having an accident.

There are sleeping bags with feet and after that, fleece pyjamas. It seems to take a long time before they stop kicking tge covers off.

Dd1 was about 2 and a half when she switched from a bag and dd2 is still in a bag and she's nearly 2. At least with a bag you know their covers are on especially when it's cold x

I guess I'm imagining that even once he's potty trained he will still be in nappies or pull ups at night for a while.

Came on to say slumbersac. My DS is 5 (nearly 6) and sleeps in a normal lightweight sleeping bag now. I put a fleece blanket over the top of it's a chilly night.

Your 5 year old???- why not just give them a duvet

It was just before DS's 2nd birthday that he learned to climb out of his cot while still in his sleeping bag. So both the bars and sleeping bag had to go. If his duvet slides off him in the night Ds pulls it back over himself.

Try a single duvet turned sideways and tucked under the mattress on both sides (creating a sleeping bag-like tunnel).

Exactly. When it was falling off and he hadn't quite got the hang of it, I just tucked it in tight against the wall so it didn't slip. Then he can easily get up and about to use the loo, go downstairs in the morning, come see us if there's a problem during the night. Once he was dry in the day, no way would he let me put a nappy on him at night! Most nights I can't even get pyjamas on him. Do they have big zips so they can free themselves easily? Im not sure my son could do a normal zip. I certainly always do his coat up for him still? Is that not normal?
