Robbie Williams is a great performer

I never paid any attention to Robbie Williams in the 90’s or since, and have always wondered about his enduring popularity. Well, today I watched his opener for the Australian Rules Grand Final and was super impressed with what a professional performer he is. He had 20 minutes and he gave it everything.
He also seemed to be having a great time. The costuming, the lights, the choice of songs- perfect for what he was supposed to be doing.
I’m really impressed. He’s a great entertainer.

I've known this since I was 13 and I'm 42 now 🤣

pompomdaisy · 24/09/2022 17:36

Ok Robbie. I know things are quiet for you at the moment but this is coming across as desperate!

Secretsandwalls · 24/09/2022 17:36

He is, I don’t really like his solo music and I really dislike him but I’ve been to take that concerts and he’s an excellent showman.

SellFridges · 24/09/2022 17:57

He’s excellent live, and his shows are always spectacular.

off to see him for about the 15th time next month though so I might be biased.

purpleme12 · 24/09/2022 18:00

I love him.
I wish I could go again

TheChippendenSpook · 24/09/2022 18:02

He's brilliant! I'm also going ti see him again next month and I can't wait.

Eddieisadick · 24/09/2022 18:03

He creeps me right out

Imissmoominmama · 24/09/2022 18:06

I’m glad lots of people like him.

It means I don’t feel guilty about thinking he’s shite.

skyeisthelimit · 24/09/2022 18:09

I saw him live in 2011 when he joined TT on the Progress tour and he was brilliant. It was like 3 shows in one, the 4 piece TT, followed by RW, followed by all 5. It is one of the best shows I have ever been to, especially as the Pet Shop Boys were support act.

RW is a great entertainer.

Abraxan · 24/09/2022 18:12

He is great performer. I've seen him several times live and the concerts are always fantastic.

Dh isn't a RW music fan particularly (at all really) but has been to concerts in the past with me, albeit not for a while. Even as a non fan he recognises that he has stage presence and puts on a good show.

newroundhere · 24/09/2022 18:15

I saw him at the Roundhouse in London years ago and was astonished that he had all the words of his songs on a teleprompter. Even Angels!

MrsGamgee · 24/09/2022 18:16

I'm not particularly a fan but his "Swing When You're Winning" album was fantastic.

Tillow4ever · 24/09/2022 18:30

I've seen him live twice - he was brilliant. I came away from the first concert really wanting to book to see him again.... so I did for the following year!

I'd love to see him again, he puts on a great show.

nokitchen · 24/09/2022 18:35

He is good but I can't bear his face somehow. Nothing personal Robbie

AndTwoFilmsByFrancoisTruffaut · 24/09/2022 18:43

Knock yourself out but my god, he’s shit. Loved by those who wouldn’t know decent, proper music if it jumped out of their soup. Middle of the road crapola. Just because he jumps about the stage like a toddler whose OD’d on penny sweets, has lots of pyrotechnics and fanfare, does not make him talented 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yep me to, can't stand him

mscampbell · 24/09/2022 18:45

Well someone has to like him, and I would have thought MN is prime RW fan club territory!

tonightelmowillrise · 24/09/2022 18:49

sometimes I YouTube that time he snogged a fan on stage just because it’s so sexy and i don’t even find him remotely attractive

learieonthewildmoor · 24/09/2022 19:17

Fred Astaire had a very limited singing range, and he wasn’t handsome. But he carried off being leading man in dozens of hit song-and-dance movies.
I have to class Robbie with Madonna and Kylie now: ordinary voice but put hard work in to making the show.

And me 😂

Hotandbothereds · 24/09/2022 20:34

He’s always irritated me, even in the 90s - I’m 44 so should be prime Robbie loving but I honestly can’t stand him.

Accidentally saw him at V once, and some mates had a spare Take That ticket a few years ago and he weirdly had a whole section for his solo songs 🙄 Nah, not for me.

JimBob61 · 24/09/2022 20:56

He's a brilliant performer. Dh and I are seeing him in concert for the third time next month. I can't wait.

I agree. I went to a concert on the same tour and it was amazing. We went to villa park (my DM and I)

Was that tour really 11 years ago??? Where has the time gone!?!?

But anyway, Robbie isn't the best singer or songwriter but he puts on a good show and a fun night out imo, looking forward to seeing him in a few weeks.

LadyChamberlain · 24/09/2022 21:32

To me he comes across as the personification of pompous.

Mediocre talent but superb ego.
