Ocado delivery drivers. Has anyone ever had a woman ?

Just that really. It's been a long time since I could afford Ocado but the drivers were always men.
I've applied for a role as a delivery driver at the same time as my son. They take very basic info, no CV. He has gone onto the next stage and I haven't. Wondering why.

Yep, quite a few. Had a lady with lovely pink nails do our delivery just last weekend.

Yes, several times, but you're right that it's mostly men. I don't think it's the driving that's the issue, it's the heavy lifting. I know I couldn't do it.

Shellingbynight · 24/09/2022 08:34

Yes, a few times. Although the vast majority are men.
I agree with the previous poster, the issue may be the heavy lifting. It may also be a job that doesn't really appeal to women, hence the low numbers.

Sothis · 24/09/2022 08:36

Once. Agree it’s the lifting. I read the depressing fact that even though I exercise and lift weights 3x week my sedentary father in law will have more grip strength than me purely because of testosterone and male physique.

Sothis · 24/09/2022 08:37

But you shouldn’t be discriminated against on the basis of sex. I imagine there are other factors at the CV sifting stage?

respectmysex · 24/09/2022 08:49

I think Posie Parker sorted of did once. Wink

Hoppinggreen · 24/09/2022 08:50

We have Ocado every week, usually one of 5 or 6 regular drivers - 2 of whom are women

Onandgrowing · 24/09/2022 08:54

Yes a couple of times but it is mostly men.

GraveAndQuietAtTheMouthOfHell · 24/09/2022 08:59

yes- but maybe only 2/3 times per year of weekly deliveries.

Soproudoflionesses · 24/09/2022 09:00

Had a few Tesco lady drivers but don't shop with Ocado.

KingsArmy · 24/09/2022 09:00

@Sothis no CV submitted. It was very basic info given, name, sex, nearest depot, available start date. Glad to see there are some women doing the job, still remains frustrating that it won't be me!

Can't be certain, but pretty sure I have, yes. We have only ordered from Ocado a handful of times too.

Abraxan · 24/09/2022 09:06

Yes, several. Not quite 50/50 but plenty to k ow it's not u usual round here.

NashvilleQueen · 24/09/2022 09:11

Literally 15 mins ago! I've used them consistently since 2015 and she's only the second one. I mentioned it to her and she said she's quite new, there's not as much driving as you'd expect (all close by each other on a round) and sometimes it's tricky with farms/access etc. I think I'd quite like it but there's a lot of heavy lifting.

Thestagshead · 24/09/2022 09:12

Yes quite a few I have Ocado deliver at least once a week and in the south east. It’s heavier weighted to men but still quite a few women, it’s not unusual.

KingsArmy · 24/09/2022 09:13

Maybe it's area. Just asked 2 of my friends who have them weekly, they've never had a woman deliver their shopping, one is a very long term customer too.

About half of our weekly deliveries have women drivers. Around us Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s all seem exclusively men (mainly younger ones, that look like they only recently passed their driving test!).

Thestagshead · 24/09/2022 09:15

To add i also agree it’s the lifting, my path is approx 100 metres long. The women I do get happily lift the bags many at a time and walk them down the path, some like the men use the crates but still need to lift out when they got to the steps.

lickenchugget · 24/09/2022 09:15

yes, a few.

How old is your son? Is he in the cheaper minimum wage bracket?

I've never had a woman deliver from Ocado, have had women deliver multiple times from Waitrose and Tescos (and Amazon Fresh when I tried them).

WimpoleHat · 24/09/2022 09:23

Yes - a few times. Mostly men, but there are some women out there!

popandchoc · 24/09/2022 09:25

Yes a few times I have .

Bonjovispjs · 24/09/2022 09:26

Not Ocado, but have with Sainsbury's.

AriettyHomily · 24/09/2022 09:27

Reapply, identify as a man and see what happens?

Chronicallymothering · 24/09/2022 09:29

Yes we occasionally get Rachel in the Fig van, but the exception not the rule
