Ocado delivery drivers. Has anyone ever had a woman ?

Just that really. It's been a long time since I could afford Ocado but the drivers were always men.
I've applied for a role as a delivery driver at the same time as my son. They take very basic info, no CV. He has gone onto the next stage and I haven't. Wondering why.

I'm in south Manchester btw

@C8H10N4O2 he is 20 but I'm pretty sure date of birth was not a required question on the application form. It really was basic.

Might be interesting to reapply as a man just to see what happens. Then if successful ask them why they accepted your son and your own male application but not your female application.

If you have a Waitrose in the vicinity I've had multiple different women deliver from there in two different locations.

I had Lydia in the Fig van this week

I've been shopping with Ocado for 10 years and can't remember the last time I had a female delivery driver. There must have been some, but only a handful out of hundreds.

I did the job for three years, a few women drivers but with the lifting and going to dodgy areas at night it's not for everybody

One woman got attacked during my time there

I'm pretty sure date of birth was not a required question on the application form.

Since age became a protected characteristic under the Equality Act, applications should not ask for your age or DOB unless it’s a genuine occupational requirement, for example to serve alcohol in a bar you have to be over a certain age. Some applications ask you to add this to your registration form when they have a recruitment platform (like Taleo or SmartRecruiters) but this is never shown to the people shortlisting.

It could be for any reason that you weren’t selected and your son was, not necessarily your sex or age.

I’m sorry to read that @EfficientDynamics, I hope they were properly supported by work when this happened.

I used to work in HR in retail and it was always a priority for us to visit and support anyone that had been abused or hurt at work, we had an armed robbery and the aftermath of that will stay with me forever.

Sorry for the slight derail there @KingsArmy

KingsArmy · 24/09/2022 11:24

@Rainbowshine no worries. You are correct it could be for any reason. I soppose when we both answered every question the same apart from sex it does make you think why he got to the next stage and I didn't. As I've been thinking about it I realised that I had never seen a female driver.

In nearly 20 years I think around 3 or 4 women.
