Come and tell me
I have been googling.
Which are better snuggly ones for over the bed ?
Or skinny ones for under the sheet?

I have a lovely one for under the sheet. It heats each side separately so my husband can escape to the cool side. In winter we switch in before getting in bed on a boost thing and then it stays on low for an hour and switches off. So so lovely.

dairyfarmerswife · 21/09/2022 09:24

Under the sheet and dual controls with an off timer, it's the way forward! So cosy.

scissorsandsellotape · 21/09/2022 09:24

Dual control sounds good.
I am peri menopausal and don't usually wear pj bottoms as get a bit hot
But also feel the cold

Brand recommendations?

What do we think of the furry ones that go on top? (Look like something from game of thrones🤣)

My daughter has that one - £80 from Costco- she absolutely loves it! Uses it on her bed and also on the sofa x

arebee · 21/09/2022 09:28

I have one for under the sheet and it's GLORIOUS. I think it's a silentnite one. My absolute favourite thing about the colder months. Get one!

Bluevelvetsofa · 21/09/2022 09:33

I’d love an under blanket, but they’re not recommended if you have a Tempur mattress and since the mattress cost a good deal more than an electric blanket, I’ll stick with a hot water bottle and a heated throw.

BogRollBOGOF · 21/09/2022 09:52

I like my fluffy heated throw as it's easy to move around and use where I want. I often use it on the sofa in the day time.

VinoDino · 21/09/2022 09:57

I've got one (under the sheet) and I love it! The next time I change my bed I'm putting it back on. I've also attached it to a smart plug so I can turn it on when coming off a late or nightshift and it's toasty for me coming in - the best feeling ever.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 21/09/2022 09:57

Under blanket, Dreamland, dual controls, heats up quickly, I love it!

LaaDeeDaaa · 21/09/2022 10:39

I've had an electric blanket since I was a toddler. I can't imagine getting in a cold bed in the winter now.

EmmaStone · 21/09/2022 10:47

Dual control electric blanket under the sheet for the bed, heated fluffy throw for the sofa.

Branleuse · 21/09/2022 10:50

I love an electric blanket in the winter, but i suspect the underneath one i had was making my memory foam.mattress sag, so i got an overblanket last winter, and it was not as amazing as the underneath one, but a decent compromise and still really nice

NannyR · 21/09/2022 10:56

I have both, the under blanket for bed and the heated throw for snuggling on the sofa. If you are getting an underblanket I would say it's worth paying a bit extra for a fitted sheet type one rather than one that you tie on, mine is also slightly quilted so you don't notice the wires as much.

florentina1 · 21/09/2022 10:58

I have an under the bed one which I love. I suffer badly from cold feet and it is really good for that. I also have a heated throw that I use in the living room. My DH Is always hot and I am always cold. We rarely have our heating on as I can snuggle in my heated blanket while he stays cool.

Gerwurtztraminer · 21/09/2022 12:36

Another vote for the under the sheet one, and getting one that's quilted so the wires are less noticeable. Mine is a Fogarty Soft Touch, heats up fast on high and I turn it off when I get into bed. Machine washable, you just disconnect the heating switch bit. Dual control is a good idea if you are sharing the bed. (Fogarty make lovely fluffy duvets as well).

I'm not keen on the furry throws. Heating underneath you is a much warmer bed than a blanket on top. Plus the furry ones get dirty easily and look scruffy quickly.

GobbolinoTheWitchesCat · 21/09/2022 12:39

I have a silent night one that goes on the mattress, it's a sheepskin (faux) one for added warmth and squishiness. Would not be without it! Had electric blankets since uni and have spent years being teased by my friends because apparently it makes me an old woman 😆But they do not know the joy of climbing into toasty sheets, or how much it helps when you've cricked your back or neck after a week sat at a computer!

scissorsandsellotape · 21/09/2022 13:45

Oh no. That's annoying about the mattress. We have a simba which is annoying me anyway,

Are electric blankets safe? I’m worried about the house going up in flames

Perfect for the sofa

EternalSunshine19 · 18/12/2022 14:41

I bought one for my elderly mum from Costco as an early Xmas present. It's cheap to use and she absolutely loves it.
looks like it's out of stock now

comfortablylesslumpy · 18/12/2022 14:43

I have an under the sheets one

It is glorious.
My room is pretty cold, but with the blanket on I am toasty.

I also have heated throws in the lounge , perfect for watching TV.

Runningintolife · 18/12/2022 14:52

Just ordered a third electric throw (Dreamland) because dc1 is back from uni and didn't bring theirs home (and has a cold bedroom so I've donated them mine). I like it for the sofa. Dc2 has an undersheet one. We have one furry one but the texture isn't very nice so I fold the top over. Prefer the fleece ones.

SurpriseSparDay · 18/12/2022 14:53

Have just bought a Dreamland Scandi Sherpa to give someone for a birthday present. Seem to recall it came highly recommended everywhere (including MN).

I thought there was only one particular electric blanket that was to be avoided with a memory foam mattress - (and not this one)?

ChickyNuggies · 18/12/2022 14:58

I also have a tempur mattress but would die before diving up my under blanket. It's been 5 years and I've not noticed any I'll effects.
