Deodorant for a child

Mum233 · 19/09/2022 19:40

My daughter who is 7 has BO. we got referred to paediatrics to check for early puberty but it isn’t. Her friends are noticing after PE. can I have recommendations for deodorant suitable for her age please? X

If you’re short on time and can’t read the full thread, here’s a summary of the best deodorants for kids that our Mumsnet users are recommending on this thread:

-Best overall: Scrubbingtons Pit Stop Natural Children's Deodorant, £10 for 2
-Best spray: Salt of the Earth Refillable Natural Deodorant Spray, £8
-Best roll-on: MooGoo Natural Deodorant, £7

When it comes to what kind of deodorant you should buy your DC, the clue’s in the name: go for a natural one that ideally has no aluminium or chemicals in it that might cause their younger skin to become irritated. Still unsure on which one to pick? Find our guide to the best deodorant for kids.

All deodorant is suitable for children isn't it? I mean, it's not an age restricted product so it is safe. Are you continuing with the investigations to see if she can get a diagnosis?

MummyDummyNow · 19/09/2022 19:43

I bought my daughter of a similar age Simple and Dove. Both gentle on skin and do the trick.

My eight year old has had this for a few years and is suffering from early puberty. I got her one of those natural stone deodorant things, that are kind of clear and white. It goes on wet skin and isn't an anti-perspirant, just a deodorant. Very gentle and fairly effective.

My daughter uses this
Salt Of the Earth Natural Deodorant Crystal Rock Chick, Fragrance Free, Vegan, Long Lasting Protection, Leaping Bunny Approved, 90 g amzn.eu/5av8b3h
It's worked really well for her.

Mum233 · 19/09/2022 19:49

We’ve just got to the end of all investigations. All normal. They mentioned in the letter to use deodorant but to check it was safe for children?! I don’t know which ones are!

We did too.

Avoid antiperspirant, go for deodorant - in any case avoid those with aluminium.

ChickpeaFlour · 19/09/2022 19:52

We love Salt of the Earth spray deodorants - I found the solid ones useless. It’s amazingly good and used it for years myself too now , it is very reliable and still allows sweat but stops BO

MbatataOwl · 19/09/2022 19:54

DD has been using Simple brand roll on deodorant/ antiperspirant

WeCanBeHappyUnderground · 19/09/2022 19:56

Scrubbingtons

rainydaysandcake · 19/09/2022 19:56

Also have a young child with BO (early puberty) and I too am using a natural crystal deodorant (push up) pitrok

EmBeEmBe · 19/09/2022 19:58

My 8yr old also uses scrubbubgtons. It smells lovely. We have to supervise her washing her armpits too otherwise she's not v effective.

ncqtime · 19/09/2022 20:05

I'd suggest having a look on Holland and Barrett or one of those type shops for a natural one. The sticks are easy to use just pay attention if she has a sensitivity to baking soda then get one without

AndAnotherOneJoinsTheQueue · 19/09/2022 20:39

I'd suggest getting the one with the label that will look most appealing to her as then she's more likely to use it. DD chose this one because it's the prettiest our supermarket has in stock Sure

Also try to stick to natural fibres e.g. cotton rather than polyester. We found that made a huge difference. Anything that smells, wash on 60 asap.

StridTheKiller · 19/09/2022 20:48

Salt of The Earth Rock Chick stings.

DrRuthGalloway · 19/09/2022 20:50

My DD is allergic to Scrubbingtons and Salt of the Earth (see pic). We use a solid stick, sanex zero natural care stick.

You need one that has no aluminium or chemicals in it. I have an 8yo that is getting a bit smelly so have bought scrubbingtons. It smells nice and seems to be working. The adult ones with no additives are still too harsh so just check ingredients carefully.
