i live in the sticks so used to hearing nothing apart from the birds, sheep, sound of a tractor and cars in the distance.

but this morning there is total silence. No wind, very flat. No sound. Eerie silence.

DH went round the animals with the can and he said the same.

its a peculiar feeling

The bin men came clanking around at six. After that birds. That’s all.

MrsDThomas · 19/09/2022 10:41

My DH went with the VAN not the can🤦🏽‍♀️

Peaceful here - as it usually is to be fair. As I am off today but nothing is open so I am chilling in the house and enjoying the silence.

RiftGibbon · 19/09/2022 10:55

Schools are closed so quieter on the roads. Usual weekend type activity taking place. Someone outside doing a bit of DIY, another neighbour has kids playing in the garden. People going past on bikes.

YourLipsMyLipsApocalypse · 19/09/2022 10:56

I'm one of three people in my office building.

It's giving me the chance to secretly empty my desk before handing my notice in later...so that's handy!

DeePlume · 19/09/2022 11:02

I live near a very busy road and it sounds quieter but still a lot of cars. It is the only route between 2 large towns though so is never really quiet!

generalh · 19/09/2022 11:06

I am going out now to avoid the spectacle on TV. My husband is chopping down some tree branches and I have had YouTube music on to stop the incessant shit presenters are saying on the radio. I will report back whaybthr roads in SW Wales are like later!

Hotandbothereds · 19/09/2022 11:09

I live on a very busy road and it’s absolutely silent, not a car or person walking on sight. Its only ever this quiet on Christmas Day.

PinkButtercups · 19/09/2022 11:09

Always quite busy here with cars going by but very few cars this morning and very quiet outside.

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 19/09/2022 11:12

We live on a fairly busy road but there’s no traffic at all. I’ve seen one man walking his dog.

columbo83 · 19/09/2022 11:15

@MrsDThomas
Same for me where I live and it's extra quiet I can hear no traffic from the distant road
Even the sheep are quiet

the80sweregreat · 19/09/2022 11:19

It has a lockdown feel to it here
The buses are running , all empty

SuperCamp · 19/09/2022 11:19

No traffic on my road at all. I live parallel to a major route into central London, only an occasional car. V peaceful.

StolenWillowTree · 19/09/2022 11:20

Pretty normal. Definitely quieter than usual but still plenty of people walking the streets and lots of cars on the road.

I'm in a coffee shop right now (which is not very busy, but not empty) preparing to go to a meeting.

dontgobaconmyheart · 19/09/2022 11:20

It's usually reasonably quite here in the day and sounds the same, can still hear the distant sound of steady traffic from the nearest main road and the children that recently moved in that usually play outside (that we are sick of hearing frankly) are still doing so, albeit in a more subdued way tbf.

I saw a few neighbours heading out as a family this morning so suspect some people are off out for walks or to the park etc. We aren't planning to watch the funeral so will just be at home catching up on housework, and DP will be WFH.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 19/09/2022 11:20

DH driving back home from London, says it’s like a ghost town. I can’t hear anything going past our house.

Pyewhacket · 19/09/2022 11:26

Absolutely silent where I live. SW London

mynamesnotMa · 19/09/2022 11:27

Quiet

CatGrins · 19/09/2022 11:29

Well, busiest it's ever been. We have 200-300,000 extra people here and about 25 roads shut so we can't go anywhere anyway.

I'm watching it on TV but dh is a police officer and about to leave for work so he's dreading it.

Bimblybomeyelash · 19/09/2022 11:34

I live in a busy town. It’s very Still and quiet. Could hear the church bells earlier , and now just the birds. I can’t hear the normal hum of traffic.

TokyoSushi · 19/09/2022 11:36

We're in a large town, it's very, very quiet. Feels a bit like Covid lockdown.

Madamecastafiore · 19/09/2022 11:37

Total silence, well other than birds. Want to take kids out for a walk but we will literally be the only people who are out and about. Feels v odd.

MichaelAndEagle · 19/09/2022 11:39

Someone's building work is still going on near me.
It has quietened down a bit now, but definitely still happening.

LemonLymanDotCom · 19/09/2022 11:42

It’s lovely, sunny & warm. The cocktails are flowing and there’s a game of pool volleyball lined up for an hour’s time. Plus the hotel hasn’t put the funeral on the big screen so any royalists have to watch it on their hotel room TVs & not bother the rest of us. Lovely.

What’s it like where you are?
HarrietSchulenberg · 19/09/2022 11:46

Bit quieter than usual here but it's raining so everyone's indoors anyway. Less people were about than usual when I walked the dog earlier but they were probably having a nice BH lie-in.
