Phones for tweens

Looking to buy dd a phone for Christmas. She currently has a brick phone but I want to upgrade for her.

What do you tweens have? Want it to be 'acceptable' amongst her peers and a contract. How much do you pay and what do you get please?

How old is your 'tween' ? 8 or 12?

Will be 11 at Christmas.

How about a second hand iphone / Samsung?
Why contract instead of PAYG bundles?

I’m looking at either a Samsung A13 or Moto G22 for my tween (DD turning 11). Roughly same price, both seem good budget smartphones with a decent camera and battery life. Unless you want tons of data, it’s cheaper to buy the handset and get a cheap SIM.

Not sure how ‘acceptable’ those are though. In DDs peer group any smartphone is good, might be different once they go to secondary.
