Supermarket extra busy

Just been to Aldi and M and S and couldn't find a single car park space.
Had to go to Morrisons.

Seems to be extra busy here today. I know I was there too so it is hypocritical but I normally go on a Sunday morning and it isn't this busy.

Right remind me not to help next time 😡

It's not helpful if you're giving incorrect information to many users though is it.

If PP does live in England, they would already know shops shut early every Sunday so why did you think you were being helpful?

I still forget they close at 4 on a Sunday sometimes, especially in summer, it's so ridiculously early!

I was replying to a post talking about shops closing early in England. Do I really need to repeat the word England? Surely those in other countries on here know when their shops shut? I was just saying it's easy to forget that you can't just pop to the shops in the evening like any other day (in England).

You would have thought it was Xmas eve in Asda today

Starlightstarbright1 · 18/09/2022 19:28

I live in England. The big Sainsbury's five minutes' walk from my house closed at 5.30pm, though when I went in there at 2.30pm because I'd run out of carrots and we're having a chicken casserole tomorrow, there were big queues and all the chicken and pork had gone. We will be okay because we were planning to eat the chicken in the freezer but if anyone was thinking of relying on it they'd have to change their meal plans.

I also made an impulse purchase of a large courgette because I fancied that instead of the frozen broad beans I'd planned with tonight's dinner of cod on sliced potatoes baked in a tomato and chorizo sauce.

There were plenty of courgettes as well as carrots so I didn't deprive anyone of them. Though busy, the queues were fast-moving.

That was just my local big Sainsbury's and I don't know what the stocks were like in the Little Waitrose and the Tesco Metro up the road or any other part of England or the rest of the world.

I hope that gives a snapshot of my locality (a small part of Central London which is in England) without offending anyone who doesn't live in England and feels the need to point it out.

P.S. for a full picture I'd like to add that I wouldn't go in the Tesco Metro unless I was starving because I suspect the manager of changing the date stamps. Again that's just my local Tesco Metro and I am sure other branches in other parts of England and outside are run on more ethical lines.

Yep went to tesco. Its normally fairly busy on a Sunday.
Today was bedlam. Worse than Xmas. Queues up every aisle. Empty shelves. The only yoghurt they had was yeo valley or petit filous. That was it.
No milk barley any bread etc
The self scan must of been 50 customers long.
I always nip in on Sunday for fridge top up. I completely forgot its closed Tom.
I couldn't park. Had to park on a nearby street.

Asda was alright at 4 today for stock but long queues. Poor shop assistants desperate to go home!

RampantIvy · 19/09/2022 13:17

I was in Asda in Gosforth yesterday and it was manic with gridlocked car parking. The shops are only closed for one day so why all the panic buying?

I had taken DD back to her university city and she had no food in. This wasn't a panic buy shop, but just a normal grocery shop.
