This is really interesting, didn't know anything about asmr apart from seeing some things about it helps sleep.

So what else do people use it for as well as sleep ?

Sleep, relaxation, reducing anxiety, helping to come out of a panic attack, etc.

ASMR is something produced by the brain in response to certain triggers. It’s called Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response - it’s the tingly relaxed feeling that some people get from the videos. I always knew I had it - when I was little went to the hairdressers it would happen - the click of the scissors on the wet hair by my ears, or someone cutting fabric with a pair of very sharp dressmaking scissors would trigger it, sometimes a very attentive calm speaking person in a call centre would trigger it. Or watching someone very precisely and purposefully wrap a gift in a department store, etc.

It’s only in the last ten years or so that it became a thing that people were talking about, and then there was a big boom of YouTubers making content to deliberately induce the lovely relaxing sensation.
