DD 16 months ate a spider
A big one by the size of the legs she handed us, legs were given up but no body/spider to be seen
1 leg was taken out of her mouth 🤢
What do I do about this? Apart from never look at my toddler the same
Got visions of it coming out in her nappy...
I did not appreciate this on a Friday evening

Phone 111 (boak). Probably nothing to worry about though. I've known kids eat earwigs (handfuls) and earthworms and I remember a thread where everyone had some grim tale of a small person eating something vile. It happens.

Justcallmebebes · 16/09/2022 18:44

I ate live earth worms and ants when I was a toddler. Survived the tell the tale. She'll be OK

nomistake · 16/09/2022 18:48

What could 111 do?

Catapultaway · 16/09/2022 18:49

Phone 111? No wonder it takes so long to get through if people phone for stuff like this 😂

StikeandRobin · 16/09/2022 18:52

Do nothing.

It will be broken down by stomach acid, we all eat spiders that crawl into our mouths as we sleep <shudder> there is no need to bother 111.

Sux2buthen · 16/09/2022 18:52

Right did she swallow a fly first?
You're going to need her to swallow a bird to swallow the spider

Diggersaurus immediately gets lots of messages from arachnophobes asking to borrow said daughter 😱😱😱

KnickerlessParsons · 16/09/2022 18:54

She should swallow a bird to catch the spider, then a cat to catch the bird, then a dog to catch the cat.....

greenacrylicpaint · 16/09/2022 18:54

good source of protein Grin

honestly, op no need to do anything. it is very, very unlikely to make her ill.

You win!

AgentProvocateur · 16/09/2022 18:56

“Phone 111” 😂😂😂 Give me strength. That’s what kids do - eat weird things. Mine used to eat live ants and he ate a raw chicken breast once. He’s 29 now and doesn’t seem to have suffered any I’ll effects.

Remind me to tape my mouth shut before bed
I'm half disgusted and half thankful she got to it before I saw it Blush

You don't need to do anything, expect drink gin/wine to block out the memory. she will be fine. Many, many babies eat all manner of creepy crawlies without any ill effect.

YesitsBess · 16/09/2022 18:57

They don’t come near your mouth when you’re sleeping because you are exhaling and that tells them you are potentially a massive predator. Which in the case of your daughter is clearly true.

May I please borrow her for an afternoon? 😂

If you tape your mouth shut they will be forced to climb up your nose, or pry open your sleeping eyelids and slide in behind your eyeballs.

Iliketeaagain · 16/09/2022 19:00

🤢 🤢 I suppose be glad she got some protein.. and if she's anything like mine, be insulted that she wouldn't eat your beautifully prepared spag Bol, but would shove a spider in her mouth Grin.

Spider is definitely worse off than she is.

Have to wake DD to be my bodyguard

I knew of a toddler who are a slug. Her mum just fished the skin out of her mouth 🤢🤢🤢 They're now 30ish and no long term effects!

She'll be fine, and it's a good story to tell. I almost feel sorry for the spider😁

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 16/09/2022 19:10

one of mine ate a bird poo once but that did give him the runs

they both enjoyed much cat food in their time

bigdecisionstomake · 16/09/2022 19:10

Do people seriously ring 111 about things like this?

*remembers the disappearing snail saga of 2006...

IncompleteSenten · 16/09/2022 19:10

It'll be fine. It's protein.
Mine tried to eat all sorts when they were little.
Saved on cooking. 🤷
😁

YesitsBess · 16/09/2022 19:12

@diggersaurus That’s fine, I will fashion her a small fabric pouch to collect legs in.
