Peter Phillips appeared to be wearing medals today? As he was not in any of the Armed Forces why is this deemed appropriate?

I think they are the Jubilee medals - not military ones.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 14/09/2022 16:34

Why are you so bothered? Maybe he was awarded them - by his Grandmother, The Queen - for a reason she felt was justified.

Do stop with the petty sniping.

Mrsjayy · 14/09/2022 16:38

It would have been as pp said Jubilee medals .do you think he got them out a lucky bag or something?

Inkanta · 14/09/2022 16:41

Yes, to be honest I don't understand why the royal family like to wear uniforms when they haven't been in active service.

Mrsjayy · 14/09/2022 16:43

He wasn't in uniform ! He had a few medals on.

ChalkHeartsMelting · 14/09/2022 16:45

He's wearing a medal he got for being alive in the year 2000.

Were the ribbons burgundy and blue? As if they were chances are you’re correct. My platinum jubilee medal has a burgundy ribbon with blue bits on. I think the diamond one is a burgundy ribbon and the golden one blue

Inkanta · 14/09/2022 16:47

Why does Edward wear a uniform for instance - is it really necessary.

Inkanta · 14/09/2022 16:48

Yeah true..

Just pomp and ceremony really I mean he was in the forces all of 5 minutes, but they are given forces titles!

You could ask the same about Princess Anne.

QuebecBagnet · 14/09/2022 16:54

He’s won them in Boxing Day pass the parcels so perfectly entitled to wear them.

alternatively they’re gold, diamond and platinum jubilee medals

Because he holds military appointments at present (unlike Harry and Andrew)

StarbucksSmarterSister · 14/09/2022 16:56

They are Jubilee medals but I wonder why Lord Snowdon, also there, didn't get them since he's the Queen's nephew and cousins such as Duke of Gloucester have them. Would Snowdon be likely to refuse it? Neither fit into the normal category of recipients, shown below.

Actually that's quite ironic - the two that actually did do active service (Andrew and Harry) weren't wearing uniforms!

Novum · 14/09/2022 16:59

Thousands of people have medals without ever having done military service.

Inkanta · 14/09/2022 16:59

Yes very odd to me this wearing or not wearing of uniforms.

antelopevalley · 14/09/2022 17:00

They get medals because they are members of the Royal Family. That is the only reason.

Mrsjayy · 14/09/2022 17:00

I don't think Harry and Andrew were permitted too wear uniform were they ?

antelopevalley · 14/09/2022 17:01

Andrew was allowed to wear military uniform at the lying in state.
Harry has not been allowed to.

Inkanta · 14/09/2022 17:04

Yes it does comes across a bit petty when he served his county in Afghanistan.

Princessglittery · 14/09/2022 17:04

King Charles captained a minesweeper and William also served. I accept the did not go to war zones but that may not have been their choice.

I think Andrew wore a suit today and in Edinburgh?

Spinninggyro · 14/09/2022 17:20

Some of the royal family hold honorary military roles. For example Princess Anne is Colonel of the Blues and Royals. She has other honorary appointments including some in other countries.
