Peter Phillips appeared to be wearing medals today? As he was not in any of the Armed Forces why is this deemed appropriate?

@Mrsjayy The Queen will lie in state at Westminster and the Royal Family will visit. Andrew will then wear his military uniform. Harry is not allowed to.

spanieleyes · 14/09/2022 17:41

I thought Harry wasn't allowed to wear uniform because he resigned from the service and was only a Captain- it isn't protocol for resigned officers of that rank to wear uniform. Andrew retired at a much higher rank and so IS allowed to wear uniform, but is only doing it at the vigil rather than during the funeral. Edward also resigned but his uniforms are for his honorary rank( like Princess Anne) whilst Harry doesn't have an honorary rank because they were removed from him when he quit working as a royal.
I think!

You could ask the same about Princess Anne.

Didn't Princess Anne serve in the Wrens,?

Georgeskitchen · 14/09/2022 17:51

Peter Phillips has the jubilee medals awarded from from.his Grandmother

Oh I see I was confused about all ceremonies. Thanks for clearing it up for me I bet he threw a huge tantrum !

AdaColeman · 14/09/2022 18:02

Most of the Royals are wearing insignia, medals etc that Mummy or Granny gave them!

notprincehamlet · 14/09/2022 18:05

He's wearing a medal he got for being alive in the year 2000
My mind went straight to the little wobbly stick of Liechtenstein

The good ship making fun of Peter Phillips' medals set sail the moment he took the decision to put on some medals. The voyage is now well under-way and I can only suggest you relax and enjoy it.

I had to google Andrew's retirement rank but it was commander. Didn't Charles make a massive f-up with the anchor when he was in charge and basically have to resign? It's ringing bells...

Yes, to be honest I don't understand why the royal family like to wear uniforms when they haven't been in active service.

Who hasn't served? Other than Princess Anne and is still C in C of some regiments.
Harry, Andrew and Charles were all in the forces. Even Edward was (briefly)

Aww, I wish I’d known, I could have got that one!

(apologise if quotation is not quite action. Also for inexplicable above post)

No I’m pretty sure she has never been in the military.

You come with decorations? Like a little Christmas tree?

Georgyporky · 14/09/2022 18:56

Always thought it odd that the blokes get married in uniform.

It's not as if they can't afford a proper suit.

And the brides breaking their fingernails trying to tear off their multi-buttoned suits trying to get at their bits. Or do the staff do that for them?

Yesthatismychildsigh · 14/09/2022 19:09

Pretty sure it was the Jubilee medal. My son and I both received it. Beatrice and Eugenies husbands were both wearing it. Mike Tindall wore a few more. Absolutely pathetic. Aren’t they embarrassed?

fyn · 14/09/2022 19:14

There’s a big list of people who get commemorative jubilee medals - armed forces with 5 years service, prison staff, royal household, holders of the VC cross, frontline emergency staff with five years service

antelopevalley · 14/09/2022 19:23

Edward has a full row of medals. Given to him by his mum. For nothing more than being her son.

It's all a bit daft really.
But I do admire all the pomp and tradition.
Nobody does it better than the British.

iamaLeafontheWind · 14/09/2022 20:54

@Wineinthegarden is there a medal for teasing recognition?

I have a wild hope, certainly, but surely it's too good to be true.

Same they were in the boy scouts or girl guides, they could have sewn them on too.
Would mean they actually DID something to get them
